Building a Hunting Cabin 8: Using the JCB Tele-skid

In this episode of building a hunting cabin, I finally get to put the JCB Teleskid to a test. I use it to dig all of the porch post piers and it works great. I share our method for laying out the dig locations and how we install our sonotubes. The Teleskid performed quite well using the auger.
Please share with your friends and make sure to hit that thumbs up. Also, feel free to leave any questions or comments down below. Thank you for the support.

    Good to see the recent generation of JCB skidsteer at work. I remember driving one of the first prototypes back in the early 90's, when I worked for JCB as a 'young'ish' engineer. Frank Mueller, who developed the concept at Mr JCB's request, asked if I was an experienced skid steer driver. Uh no! It was just that the joystick controls were like the backhoe loader's controls, the machine which I was designing. Bobcat operators struggled to run it because they were used to push-pull levers and foot pedals. I filled up the foot well and had trouble getting out with my shoes buried! The roof didn't have any glass in it and the full bucket spilled over at full height, dumping lots of dirt in the cabin! Fun days!

    Just a small trick we used when drilling pier holes when we get to the right level we drop in the hole about half a bucket of water in the bottom spin the auger as fast as you can and it will clean the hole alot better if too wet drop some lime in the hole and spin the auger In the last few years we have been using 14 tonne excavators with multi speed augers which really clean the bottoms of the piers the other thing we do is dig the footings first then drill the piers after this quicker then doing it the other way especially if there is reo in the piers some of the excavators have cabins that side forward so the operator can see down the hole with out getting out of the machine from the retired Aussie builder that has drilled thousands of pier holes under his belt

    Should be rather straight forward to put that drill on the telehandler and get rid of the skid. Example: _Digga's PDX2 to PD8 range of Earth Drills, also called Auger Drives, are ideally suited for telehandlers and truck cranes with a flow between 30 to 115 lpm. Used for all types of drilling applications_

Possible, technically feasible, but not in any way a superior solution to the one he found worked best. When you throw in he found the curve of the far pivot point to be a more acceptable angle therefore doing a superior job... You're watching a video about a building be built in America by Americans and filmed by a American, on a American website, on the internet originally invented in America, on a device that was originally invented in America. Tell me why your measurements are so great now? Just cause you don't understand? • @MostlyPeacefulCombatVet

    @MostlyPeacefulCombatVet

    4 жыл бұрын

    There's no need for a pier. Especially with a concrete pad going over it. The compacted ground holds pressure against the pier from all other directions. I imagine kyle uses at least a 6 bag mix on them, and they are well below frost line, it looks. And they are large. They are only there to bear weight at this point. Everything will end up getting connected and tied back to the building. So uplift is of absolutely no concern here either. There is some math behind all of that too. But most of it comes from doing the stuff every single day. In short answer. No
