Great video. PTZ Cameras have been great so far in our use. Last year we finally move and replaced almost all of our cameras with PTZ cameras. We went with the Fomako brand which are practically the same in functionality and operation as the Avkans cameras. All total, we are running 7 PTZ cams and 3 camcorders. They come into a Blackmagic ATEM 1 m/e 4k switcher for the 2nd floor sanctuary and Studio, and an ATEM Production Studio 4k switcher for the first floor Auditorium/overflow room. The base workflow is SDI from all cameras. But we do take an NDI feed as well for backup monitoring and additional processing in vMix. As well as SRT feeds for a remote production management. We use vMix on the back end primarily for recording, streaming, and additional processing. But also for custom displays like stage monitors.

@@LiveProductionTips My personal setup for my side business is 3 PTZOptics (Gen2) cameras and a Panasonic UX180 camera as my main. I use an ATEm Mini Extreme ISO SDI as of last year, replacing my ATEM 1 m/e that i used as my main mixer for many years. The next upgrade to my mobile setup is to get a hold of some cable I have seen that combines SDI and an ethernet cable into one sheath. That would really cleanup my long distance wiring to my PTZ cameras. Another little rig that I put together that worked pretty well in a pinch for a couple of jobs. I setup a wireless remote rig far from the switcher using a PTZ cam on a high stand, with a Hollyland Mars 400S video transmitter, and a small cheap WiFi bridge that puts the camera onto my private wifi network. It worked out fantastic for 2 jobs, till the Wifi bridge burnt out in the middle of a third job. It was a Very cheap unit I got from Amazon. I guess you get what you pay for. Still the idea of the rig worked very well. So I will probably be looking to get a more reliable WiFi bridge unit. (Though, wired will always be my preferred method for setup.) The only real extended wiring the rig needed was to plug into a nearby outlet for power. Even then, if I can find a wifi bridge that can run DC voltages down into the 5-12v range, I can truly make the entire rig wireless.

@@LiveProductionTips Ahh I see, It has a build in encoder. Would you say its more cost effective and more multi functional to go NDI all the way instead of hardware video switchers and capture cards? I have an old Atem Studio HD and I'm planning to upgrade the rig and recently understood the power of NDI thinking it might be best to just convert all the video sources to NDI with adapters such as birddog, send it to the network and mix it all with a powerful computer. this would mean I don't need capture cards, cables, video switchers etc etc. do you see any problems with this? cheers

@@MusicNest it depends on how many cameras you are using. To be honest I have never used NDI with more than 2 inputs. In my opinion it’s better to rely on a hardware than a software especially when live streaming with many cameras. It’s not wrong but you are trusting your computer to handle many tasks… not because it wouldn’t work but it may be a little risky in case something goes wrong with your network, or you computer crushes, or one of the software, etc.. You can experiment and see what happens though

It all depends on how you want to run the show, you can send your main output from the Atem to RBBlink or the opposite, Atem mini to RGBlink mini. That way all the inputs from one switcher will show up to the other as you switch. Also if you go the hardware route you may end up not using NDI which is fine

For most people who want PTZ cameras is because they’re limited in resources they want the convinience of having one person control multiple cameras and possibly streaming at the same time. 2 people can run a show with 5 PTZ but if you had 5 Mirrorless you would definitely need at least 4 operators. And yes if I was to choose between the two and had no limitations in regards to stuff mirrorless Is way better (!sensor size, interchangeable lens , dynamic range, price etc…)

After that we will hopefully find the backing to scale into production. At that point we will have a look around again. 6 months to a year. By the way for audio we are getting 2x Mackie dlz. @@LiveProductionTips it's more a panel project. Up to 4 panel members and two hosts. And renting/buying a location is more expensive than sending a ptz and monitor to each. Now we just need to see if we can get 6 streams into the home studio over glass fiber internet. And although I don't have any BMD gear yet (getting the editor keyboard in December, also for the studio resolve license) I am a huge fan of what they are doing. So I am hoping Atem is an option. Specially since I don't need to record through atem, NDI gets recorded in parallel. That's the basic idea. For now I am mostly financing it myself, I quit smoking so now I can save between 6 and 8 hundred a month. I expect to need between one and two years to get everything in place.
