Building a Firewood Shed in the Forest at My Off Grid Log Cabin

With firewood stacked in various places around my acreage, I decide to build a small firewood shed with rough sawn lumber behind my off grid log cabin to store dry wood for cooking, cleaning and heating. Click on the link and use Code: SST100 to get $100 off on the B4000 SST: bit.ly/48woJ6r

I couldn't agree more! Shawns mindset is admirable. These days everyone has the mindset to hire people to build or fix things for them. Shawn has the mindset to learn and create, even if that means failure, as it leads to a more self reliant life. In small everyday ways, Shawn has inspired me to use my hands more, learn more, and become more reliant on my own skills! I just started my own channel because of people like Shawn, I'm excited for the journey!

Well I have watched your videos since the beginning and I just recently figured out how to get on board with being able to comment, (go figure from a 76 year old that is seriously a computer idiot) I can't begin to tell you how much i have enjoyed watching you over the years, your work ethic, ability, drive, and love for your family and the love for what you believe in and what you have accomplished just amazes me. You Shawn are one Hell of a Man and I hope that you have the good health, strength, and will to keep doing what ever it is that you have planned for the future. I wish you a long and healthy life and Hopefully your wife will soon join you at the cabin and continue your journey together.

I forgot to mention Cali, what a beautiful and seriously smart "Fur Baby" she is. I can see that you love and care for her as she deserves. Some folks just don't realize just how much a part of the family an animal can become. My children and grandchildren are all grown, so my "fur babies" are now my kids. Kuddos to you for your the love and care you show her.

With falls cooler temps appraching, I look forward to wearing my red My Self Reliance hoodie while I work around the yard. We just had six large maple trees felled this week on our property. At 71 and 67 respectively, we're too old to do it ourselves but we're cutting the branches, chain-sawing the limbs and trunks, stacking/piling - we'll split them for firewood next year when they've 'seasoned. We're not off-grid like you, we're more in between - well, septic, acreage/large garden, living in rural village Quebec and prepping for the times that are coming. You are the inspiration for much of our endeavors. Stay healthy and safe.

The videos are so good the title can be boring and simple and the man still gets views with people who stay for the content. The man broke out of the matrix kind of, and he broke the algorithm, and all he's doin is being a real "Henry David Thoreau" of a man 😂 incredible, I love it! I've learned more than log cabin building from this channel, I've learned some deep inner things too man so thanks a ton. Your videos miraculously got me out of depression in the winters one year, that was a huge relief. And seeing your greenhouse videos must be a huge relief to many who had lost hope in society and infrastructure, we need you on the Joe Rogan Podcast!

There is one thing I noticed about the wood shed that could have been better off different. The foundation could be higher off the ground if you get many feet of snow. I don't know how well that overhang is going to work. Alot of sideways falling snow sometimes. Maybe you can just nail a tarp to it and stake the other end to the ground and it would block more snow if you needed to.

I am a vegetarian, so I could not do certain things as you. I am not judging you. It is not up to me. On the contrary, I admire your skills and tenacity. Of course, Cali is very special. I remember when you first got it. I had to fight for my health because of COVID. I was not the only one... So scary, for all the people. My health has never been the same. My energy dropped and has not returned, I am persistent. I should not complain, I am past eighty years old, and not counting anymore. I miss gardening and all of my other projects. 😊. Stay safe,

SHAWN @My Self Reliance Another incredible video of your talents !!! Its so enjoyable watching a man who has embraced his talents to the point that they are his everyday go-tos !!! Great to see you back into the swing of things after your well deserved and much needed break away with your wife and daughters. Im amazed how quickly your physical body adjusts back into the swing of things after travelling for that long . Good for you. Shows you've got good balance between the body, mind, and spirit. You're def going to appreciate that wood shed this winter. I hope you get all necessary winter prep finalised before the winter truly sets in. Again, a huge THANKYOU for the major effort required to bring us this fabulous video plus a wood shed build off-grid, way out in the booeye, as an Aussie would say, LOL 😂😂 BLESSINGS to you both and the girls 🇦🇺🤗💞🙏👌👍✌️👏🇨🇦

I Sean a wood she'd simulator to yours with a cool frount coverd porch for cutting. Think it's intent was to have an area with no snow on the ground to cut wood. Anyway, I love the show, big fan.

I have been watching since the first cabin, you had to move from, and now your on your second cabin, now when i have to do a project around the house, like build a small deck for one end of our pool 12x 8 with steps, railing and handrails, and I am no deck builder, I drew up some plans, sure wish I had a sawmill, $1,300 later for treated wood, and I was kind of sitting on the project. I thought to myself, what would Shawn do, he would get out there and build the damn thing by himself if need be, it took me 2 weeks after work and 2 weekends, by myself. I put a coat of Thompsons on the entire thing a month later when the treated lumber finally dried all the way, the walmanized wood was so wet, a 2x4 weighed 10-15 lbs, when I was putting the screws in, juice was coming out. I used screws and spikes for strength, after I sealed it, I ran some solar twinkle lights under the steps and railing, it looks fantastic. I`m thinking to myself, this man built a cabin alone in the middle of a Canadian winter, in the middle of nowhere, get out there and build that deck you bum, yeah motivation, just from watching your work ethic, the wood shed looks fantastic, nice and big, very breathable, you sir are a motivator, we appriciate it as fans of what you do, all the best from Michigan.

Just a thought for you - when I chop wood I use an old truck tire that I sit on a large maple crosscut. I can usually put 3 or 4 rounds in it and chop them and the tire prevents the wood from falling onto the ground. Save a lot of time, and your back!
