V- I thought when you were first explaining the new frame rail path, that you intended to widen at the firewall as you dropped to meet your rails through the passenger compartment. that sounded pretty doable, but I'm 750 miles away in Dallas,Tex, so..... It will be interesting to see how you work around the 2" or so you have pushed the floor up. IRRC, but I'm thinking the early Mustang was taller than the new Mustang but wasn't very tall. As always, you are "learning the skill while applying it up a storm"- your welding is pretty damn good already and getting better quickly. It will be interesting if your brother(s) or cousin(s) pick it up too; they are handy like the pockets on a shirt! Your presentation wasn't bad to start- it has gotten better as well. Oh, the Mustang, oh, if you insist; I would have thought the rail routing just inside of the rockers would have been the ticket, but I'm not there and there are plans I may well not know. Cutting the 4x2 a couple inches behind the rear mounts for the IRS subframe and use a 2x2 to frame out to the trunk end. Save weght and create a bit more room for the trunk and likely for the gas tank. The only short I see is that many of the frame pieces should have had at least some bevel ground on to the ends to give the weld someplace to sit besides on the surface, where you will grind most of it off. My popcorn is cooling so I must get back to my important schedule; will eating a six pack of Orville Redenhacker's Double Butter Theater popcorn a day make you gain weight?

The only thing I see that it may need is some cross bracing for stability making sure the left and right rails stay in the correct position I wouldn’t want a minor impact to one corner to Push the entire rail back on one side at the point of impact really only need cross bracing in the cab area maybe incorporate a driveshaft loop into it for clearance

I think you will wind up regretting not building a perimeter frame, the straight frame rails are going to mean that instead of the floor pan being able to attach to the bottom of the perimeter frame moving the seats way down, you will have to sit the floor on top of the frame. To get an idea, cut a sheet of plywood and set it across the frame rails, set a seat in the car, see how it feels to you, I think you will find that your head is closer to the roof than you like, especially considering eventually you will need room above your head for sound insulation, a head liner, and if you want to do track day events a helmet. That brings another important point that you are planning on caging this car, which means you will also have to worry about the bars of the cage clearing your noggin. This is another reason to get your seating position as low as possible, this gives you options. Additionally going to a perimeter frame means that the cage hoops can come directly down to the frame, you will save yourself a lot of bother in the long run. I know they can see a bit intimidating at first, but compound miters are not that hard, all you are doing is adding 2 angles together. Then jigging them up and cutting them. You can even make the first cut on your saw and the 2nd angle with a hand held angle grinder with a cutoff wheel and straight edge. The other reason for building a perimeter frame is that if you build a straight frame, you still have to tie the frame into the body, this requires more structure, and more structure = more weight. It is a little more work now that will save you a whole lot more in the end. BTW, you can take the pieces you just cut, and bevel them to make the compound angles.

A tip for welding pipes and any tube steel, drill a small hole where you are going to attach a pipe. while welding the joint together the air inside the pipe will expand, because of the welding heat soak, and try to escape out of the pipe you are welding. This is a blow-out on the saddle joint and is a weak spot in your connection. Check out Kyle Voss's channel "The Fab Forums" very knowledgeable and explanes things very well. Everything looks good so far, good luck with the neck recovery.

One thing you could do, is drill a few small holes and fill the frame with expanding foam to help quiet the ride. That's similar to what Mercedes does, but they have a compound that has butyl added, which I'm not sure how they did that, because that stuff is more messy than glitter and just as thick as tar.

I think you should turn the rails outward in the foot wells and run them along the sills (rocker panels) otherwise you won’t have headroom to put front seats in it. Cheers from 🇦🇺

Nathan Hansford you are 100% correct. He even mentioned that in a previous video and was going to run the rails out next to the rockers, but for whatever reason he moved them back inword. He will find out when he tries to mount a seat and his head is against the roof

This is a really interesting build. This must be a pretty popular project because I have seen other channels doing the same thing. One is doing it wrong IMHO. He’s cutting the skin off the subframe of a late model and grafting the 60’s skin over it. Then there’s Vehcor who is chopping and narrowing a 2015 subframe to fit within a 60’s mustang.

Glad to see you more comfortable with thinner tubing however I was hoping you would have been consistent and continue to use round tube for the frame as well since you did such a great job on the subframe. Perhaps next build as your skills continue to excel. Keep up the great job.

Looks like another chop saw gave its life for this noble build. After the lock-down is over you should check out some auctions for used metal top work tables for your saws and drill press so you're not working on the floor slab so much.

Good videos... As I watch you build the frame rails, I don't see you checking to make sure the frame fits accurately to the sides of the car, and how do you know that the rails are right for installing the body to the frame, not to mention did you measure to ensure the rails were spaced far enough apart so your seats would fit right.

  • @babygirl89123

Hey brother definitely digging the build. Not sure how far along you are with the frame but a good thing to do to speed things up and make sure both sides are mirror images of each other is to tack weld both sides of the raw material together and then make the cuts through both at the same time. When you eventually cut them apart the angles and the measurements are exactly the same which will not only save you time measuring and cutting twice it will also mean you don't have to chase plumb and square adjustments because one was slightly off from the other.

When you are going ahead using the welding table after you went ahead and cut your stuff, there is no need to go ahead and keep putting your earth onto the bits you go ahead and weld. Go ahead and clamp the earth to the table itself, and it will then go ahead and 'self earth' your parts. That will go ahead and save you some time to do more going ahead. Also, when you go ahead and weld, you need to go ahead and keep going ahead with the gas blowing on it until it goes ahead and cools. You will go ahead and get better welds as it does not go ahead and oxidize. You are going ahead and getting this done in a very good time. With all the going ahead you do, it will not be long until you have gone ahead and got it finished so you can go ahead and get driving. I am really going ahead and looking forward to seeing you go ahead and get it finished. (Do you see how silly all the going ahead is? You would not write like that (I hope) and talking that way is soooo annoying (personal opinion))

@vTuned garage: You're doing an awesome job on this build--it is great to see you make progress while learning. I have also seen a lot of improvement in your video editing skills along the way too. You are most of the way there. Here is a suggestion on the editing: The music needs to be faded in and out on the action parts--it feels a little abrupt sometimes when the music is cut off. Also at the end of a statement that has an immediate cut to a new scene sometimes there needs to be a little bit more time to transition to the next section. You could do a few tenths of a second crossfade to black or something. Experiment a little with that. Like I said you are doing great and I am impressed with your build! Thanks for sharing all your hard work with us!

I learned long ago action speaks louder than words in the end. Keep your work ethic secure. You will have universal education if you are willing to fail often to create understanding. It doesn't hurt to have a few mentors to draw from to help reduce redundant failure. But as is life, the more you live hopefully, the more you gain. I love looking forward to the process. Engineering is the systematic process of using math and science derived technology to make a system that performs a function per a set of attributes derived from meeting an arbitrary required objective.

Hey man, not sure if you'll see this, but... You should widen those in the passenger compartment. Run them right along the door sills. This way you have more room to set your seat low. Run another (smaller) set down next to the transmission and you can drop your seat between them. Basically just 60* them out fore/aft of the seating areas. Also, gusset those 90* cross beams with some triangles so that the whole thing can't parallelogram. Triangles are strong I've got a '65 with a twin turbo Coyote myself. Cool project sir.

Glad to see that you scrapped your first attempt at making the frame. Basically, it was a piece of crap. This one is so much better now that you are doing it right. The saying is that you learn by your mistakes and you did just that and got it right the second time around. Great job. Looking forward to seeing the build continuing to the end. It's going to be something special and done right.
