Building a CAMPER FOR MY SNOWMOBILE
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this video I convert the bike camper I made last fall into a practical and beautiful teardrop camper for my snowmobile. I also build an efficient lamp oil heater from an old 50 caliber ammo can and some copper pipe to the heat the camper 25°c over the outside frigid temperature. I weld some brackets to mount skis on the original frame of the camper. Then I go camping for a full day and night to test the new snowmobile camping setup while doing some asmr fire-building, cooking and bushcraft.

Maybe it's a good idea to add a folding chair in the combination, then you can sit while eating. Also I think that you lose a lot of heat with the current set up, there is much potential.

I am an 80 year old grandmother that doesn’t know how to build anything. I was bored and looking through KZread and came across this. I have to admit it was a great watch. and fun. I have one small suggestion I don’t know if it’ll work or if it will help you. Nobody likes getting up for any reason in the middle of the night. So you know how much fuel you need for your lamps overnight. Why not build a metal pan almost like the fire box you made but much smaller that you could fit both of the wick holders on top, that will hold a full night’s fuel? My reasoning is that you room on the bottom and if you position wick holders spaced evenly, the added room around the base will accommodate the extra fuel needed.

As with your other videos, it was really cool watching you modify your camper. You make it look quick and easy and I know it isn't, so you really have a talent for it. You're competent in so many areas -- carpentry, plumbing, steelworking, mechanics, electrical -- wondering if you are self-taught. Regardless, really great work and fascinating to watch! And your videos are to the point with no fluff -- quite a welcome contrast from other content on KZread. Nice easter egg!

Well done Sir! So much content packed into one video, but it didn’t feel rushed, delivered in such a calm manner. Inspiring! A+ 👍
So, I had a discussion with my son over the design. He wondered why it was so small (narrow) and posited that it's for solo camping, but wondered where your wife would sleep. I agreed that that was probably a good thesis and an excellent caveat. Then we got into physics. He suggested that a small space is easier to heat, which I had to agree with. Then I explained how larger internal volume leads to larger surface area and smaller comparative heat-loss. This was a little harder to explain so I had to make a practical demonstration (thanks, Yr 11 Biology teacher Mr Dick) and now he wants to know if I'm such a genius why we aren't rich. So, thank you Drew, for some true family quality time.
If you ever make any future modifications to this would love to see you add like suspension or something that way everything inside doesn't get jostled around so much
I would add a 3rd piece to create a triangle at that very front end of the frame -- would be a lot stronger and reduce the stress on that single angle. :)
I love it ! The only thing that bothered me as a winter camping enthusiast are the boots left outside.
@jenniferj7588
21 күн бұрын
The boots can go into a good plastic bag in the camper with you then no cold shoes in the morning or when nature calls..
Little trick, since you have a power bank, you can get "electric bed warmers" they are heating blankets you lay on.. they are often lower power then electric blanekts with more control of how hot they get and the ability to ignore shutoffs. you place them UNDER you and the blankets. so they would work great in an application like this. also... there's something called the SNOWCOACH MVP by equinox. They are 2.8m long, 1.2m wide and high. and have a 700lb load cap. they come with the ability to mount an electric heater, battery, interior lights, etc. and are convertable from ski running to be towed by a snowmobile, to ATV wheels to be pulled by a quad. Larger and heavier then yours they can be used for pulling passangers, but also can mount stretchers inside... so they would easly be convertable to an ATV + snowmobile camper too.
Just the most Canadian thing ever!❣
be careful with the tempered glass panel, whilst they are okay for short term use, repeated exposure will weaken its temperature tolerances

Your videos just get better and better. Great work Drew. It's amazing to see you continue to learn, adapt, and refine your techniques.
Clever man right there!!!!!!Love how you modified it to be all season's. Great Job!
nicely done. the project adaptation, the edit, the shooting, and the music. nicely done drew. love your work. just three comments, for modifications. 1.) i might be wrong on this one, but I think the feet of your stove will still transmit heat to the wood that they’re sitting on. i’d suggest some kind of heat-shield for the feet so that you don’t burn down your new home. 2.) shocks. those skis need shock absorbers. otherwise you’re just asking for trouble. 3.) if I were you that second weld that you had to do because the connection to the ski mobile was poorly done to hold connect the ski mobile to camper, that could have been avoided if you had added top and bottom braces to the connector. I was thinking this even on the first build that the connector was too damned weak and flimsy. I was right. Sadly. Fortunately due to the durability of the camper and the frame, nothing too terrible happened. however, if I were you, I’d go back to that weld and add a top and bottom brace to that point. so that that piece never comes apart again. Other than that, nicely done project sir. nicely done.

@ Shocks, alternative intake to pull inside air, and don't rush the welds - you should be damn near burning through when it's right. Don't ask me how I know! You won me when you helped the homeless.
If you swap the intake and output ports on the heater, and extend them to the upper and lower extremes of the interior, you can make the air mixer and heater the same element

The only issue I foresee doing is if the fan stops working, the heat would rise and if hot enough, melt the fan; this could be tested though without a fan connected to see what the temps are.

You could beef this up and mass produce it for e-bikes, mopeds, motorcycle, and snowmobile. Ice fishing in this would be a blast!
Use Kevlar for wicking material. Cotton wicks require more adjustment as they burn away.
That’s a really cool conversion, nice work. Couple little things to add, you should use washers on the ski mounts because the nuts will wreck the aluminum over time. As well that’s not tempered glass, it would’ve broken when you cut it.

Oh wow! Love your idea of towing your teardrop camper not only with your bike but with your snowmobile, awesome.👍
Nice heating solution. Also a good idea would be to paint inside as well, since when you breathe the humid air will soak into wood in winter. And please get a vise for drilling holes into column shapes instead of holding it with your feet.
The feeling i get whilst watching your videos is indescribable. You’re so entertaining and make me feel so warm inside. Thank you :)
There are these thermal electricity chips I think they are seebeck chips. You can mount them to the outside of the heater and they will generate electricity to power your fans

Wow that mini furnace is amazing!!!! You are a genius. As an avid winter camper in Canada, I need this for my minivan camper!! Thx for sharing
This is what my favorite build so far the hulk a thing anyway but I would definitely recommend building a small half the size of the camper towards the top luggage rack out of aluminum of course so when you're sleeping at night you can keep your cooler and stuff up high away from critters
A very nice conversion from the wheels to skis, hope to see the pontoon version soon! Something you might consider adding for the snow/water version would be a bolt on shelf covering the frame extensions. Strap a couple of fuel cans on each side to extend your range. I definitely agree with some other posters about adding a gusset where the tow bar makes the bend up to the hitch. Regarding your ammo can heater, take a look at a video series from "The Outsider" for his winter snowmobile camper. Oh yeah, that ammo box was for 5.56 (.223 caliber) NOT for 50 cal.
Next up: Drew launches his own calendar line.....

You'll be making a two person-sized camper to pull from your golf cart. No, I take that back. You will build a camper that allows you to stow your E-bike to go on the hard top with. Amazing build. With the equipment you used to make your ski adapter, what would it cost to buy or make them? I love people who are so resourceful and innovative! I have welded with an arc welder, but no longer have one, nor those chop tools. Love the stove, and the songs on the video too!
That is incredible! Such a cool build!
You should make some window covers to keep lost if heat from the windows it would make it much more cozier

looks awesome man, this series is awesome, been watching since the first episode. i'd love to see a cooler mount on the front or back in the next episode 👌
Awesome job and life in the woods! Great pleasure to watch.
You need to hold the welder on just a smidge longer at 3:07 as you haven't filled in the puddle divot. The lack of material can lead to cracking.
Great vid! I left Colorado a few years ago and moved to Texas. I have lived in snow my entire life minus the last 3 years. I miss it a lot. I am not sure how this connected with me in that way, but it did. Maybe it is the freedom in your video and getting away and out in the elements. I never cared about the snow or cold. Now that I don't have it I miss it dearly. This was a great and relaxing mind trip for me. Really great project and adaptation of the skis for winter use. I pretty much have that exact wire-feed welder (Lincoln) and it has done 10+ spools through it over the years. MANY things have been made and fixed. I will never not use it, lol.
I am really impressed by your channel :) You have inspired a few guys here in Sweden! One of my friends started to build a similar "bike house" as you built (after I showed him your video). Keep up the good work!

This Is some seriously good content with very high production value. I honestly don't know how you don't have more subs!
I really like your approach to the ammo box heater. I've been interested in finding a small back up heater for my camper. This might fit my needs with some adjustments to your design. Really making me think. I've watched a few videos on ammo box heaters. Another great video. Always enjoy your videos.
Enjoyed your conversion, to winter use, of your camper. Living here in Florida, I had to put on a sweater as I watched. Can't imagine sub zero temps.
So cool. I'd use one to sleep out on the trails one night or even go on a tour with one!
Great conversion! I've been binging your stuff. Really appreciate the effort and creativity. I'm curious what your background is. Seems like you may have an engineering background?
Nice modify to the camper and the clever heater setup. Also nice to see you used a carbon monoxide detector as well...just in case. Thumbs Up!
Great build indeed! I need one of those now! For the heater using multiple pipe may help grabbing more heat even a little fan at the top. Stay warm! Cheers!
Fantastic build, I'm so jealous of how a great looking camper system can be made with such basic construction practices.
I remember when you did the trailer build, both of them. Great trailers, especially 2.0 . Now this was fun to see you do. Can't help but wonder if you might for next year improve the suspension by allowing some up and down movement to smoth thigs out a bit. The heater you made works fine. However I think one of those small diesel furnaces that are very affordable would be the way I would go. Lots of options there. Anyway great video. Have a great day 🌞.
Perhaps rather then taking out the heater for the summertime you could make an "A/C" that would fit in its place. I don't know how warm Canadian summers are but where I live 104°F (40°C) summers are pretty common.
Bravo,Bravo,Bravo. Great idea Drew,great video.. thanks.. ☃☃👍👍
I think this is brilliant! And I love the stove! I was glad to see the fire extinguisher and detector go into the camper. I worry about that kind of thing.

You are probably not getting a lot of the heat from those small copper pipes. You could try 2 large cpu coolers attached outside and inside touching each other with some thermal paste at the top of that box. It would absorb and transmit more energy and it could just be added onto the current setup.
