BUILDING A CABIN ALONE IN THE SMOKY MOUNTAINS | TIMBER FRAME | BEGINNING THE INTERIOR WALLS

Ойын-сауық

#selfreliance #offgridgarden #timberframecabin
In this DIY video, we finished the construction of the charred board and batten exterior on the off grid timber frame cabin on the homestead in the Great Smoky Mountains using self-reliant skills from both modern and traditional hand tools in the woodwork from our own sawmill, have finished the raised beds and the hobbit style chicken house pen and starting on the front porch of the cabin and the interior of the cabin. Mortise and tenon are the basic frame work on the 7 x 7 post and beam along with the 7 x 10 beams that support the floor joist. We hope you will follow us through the final stages of the cabin build, chicken house, root cellar, basecamp and future barn for the homestead.

One thing that most don't think of is to put blocking in the walls where you want to mount things in the future like if you want to mount a tv on the wall to put blocking in that area so all the screws/bolts of the bracket will be in wood instead of into drywall anchors. Bathrooms are another good example as you can put blocking in for grab bars near the toilet and tub, the TP holder and any towel racks

If it were me I would use nicely cut cedar moldings over the joints . Mainly because as your wood dries and shrinks you will get cracking on the joints and be constantly patching plus the cedar will help keep bugs out of closet without giving you the heavy cedar smell.

The WIW is coming along very nicely and it's always great to see Smoky interacting with you, or just watching what you're doing with those big adoring eyes on you. It was great to see Niffa again and we both look forward to seeing more of her during the school break period. We're happy too that you have moved to the cabin full time after your final transfer of clothes and sundry goods. It will be such a great change for you and the dawg. Keep it up mate we love it.

Good old trigger finger! I've had it 4 times on various fingers and hands...3 operations and by the time of the 4th a friend of mine told me to try CBD cream. Rubbed it on the joint every night and within a couple of weeks, I could make a fist and straighten my hand out, no need for surgery.

Jennifer, up here in Canada I get in from an Indian reservation ( medicinal pot shop ). Light tan colored with the scent of vanilla, about $25 CDN for a 4 oz. pump bottle. In other words it doesn't smell like pot when you apply it. You apply it very sparingly and that bottle lasts about 6 months. I use it on any of my joints that are aching. Ken from Peterborough.

It looks awesome! It is commonly said that thin drywall in 24" centers tends to sag or get wavy, particularly ceilings and sometimes walls. I'm not a drywall expert, but if you have a friend who is, maybe send them a link to this video and see if they recommend adding extra studs, blocking, or ceiling joists.

Being Richard's build, doesn't matter too much. But being a builder myself, all studs were 18 inches centre to centre. But in the good old days 1967. OB HWD and noggins as well. My new house with trusses the studs are 600 mm apart and dry wall and no problem with the plaster sheets. Houses built back in my time were a lot more solid.

Just a small criticism . . . I would add more screws around the edges of the seams between sheetrock. Just to ensure the seams don't pop after mud is applied! Looking great!
