BUILDING A CABIN ALONE IN THE SMOKY MOUNTAINS | TIMBER FRAME | BEGINNING THE INTERIOR WALLS
Ойын-сауық
#selfreliance #offgridgarden #timberframecabin
In this DIY video, we finished the construction of the charred board and batten exterior on the off grid timber frame cabin on the homestead in the Great Smoky Mountains using self-reliant skills from both modern and traditional hand tools in the woodwork from our own sawmill, have finished the raised beds and the hobbit style chicken house pen and starting on the front porch of the cabin and the interior of the cabin. Mortise and tenon are the basic frame work on the 7 x 7 post and beam along with the 7 x 10 beams that support the floor joist. We hope you will follow us through the final stages of the cabin build, chicken house, root cellar, basecamp and future barn for the homestead.

Jennifer!! You look awesome, we miss you when you’re not around. Hope your finger gets better Richard, sounds very painful. I just can’t imagine why its flaring up like that... NOT! It’s not a sin to take a day or two off now and then and just get away. Happy Memorial Day. May we never forget those who paid the ultimate price for our country. May it never be in vain. #GodBlessAmerica #SMO #SmokyMountainOutpost #Smoky

Looking great. Perhaps a pocket door for the closet to conserve space?
Looking great! I would use cedar to keep the moths out.
You are never alone, call if need be. Nice hair cut , I can give you a oath in my corp. hi sis!
1st 👍🇵🇭
One thing that most don't think of is to put blocking in the walls where you want to mount things in the future like if you want to mount a tv on the wall to put blocking in that area so all the screws/bolts of the bracket will be in wood instead of into drywall anchors. Bathrooms are another good example as you can put blocking in for grab bars near the toilet and tub, the TP holder and any towel racks
Wow. He saw you grab that color and thought he was going for a ride.
Jennifer wonderful to see you. Looking amazing as always. Smokey such a great dog
Y’all are truly blessed 💯❤️
Howdeeeeee miss giggles

Can’t wait to see your new deck. I’m sure you’ll build it just like your cabin and your other projects - solid as a rock. 👍
The cabin is coming along beautifully.
If it were me I would use nicely cut cedar moldings over the joints . Mainly because as your wood dries and shrinks you will get cracking on the joints and be constantly patching plus the cedar will help keep bugs out of closet without giving you the heavy cedar smell.
The blue one is spearmint the green one is wintergreen that's the best 😂
👍🏴
Glad you remembered the lights for inside the closet. Well done. Jennifer, it’s great to see you again. You have been missed! 😊
Wow that's a closet!!! Hi Jennifer 👋, 🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸
Doublemint is the green one
Richard that closet is so big Jennifer could sleep in it! LOL
Thank you once again for an enjoyable interlude Ric. The WIW is coming along very nicely and it's always great to see Smoky interacting with you, or just watching what you're doing with those big adoring eyes on you. It was great to see Niffa again and we both look forward to seeing more of her during the school break period. We're happy too that you have moved to the cabin full time after your final transfer of clothes and sundry goods. It will be such a great change for you and the dawg. Keep it up mate we love it.
Hi Richardt everything you build is big even the closet ! Man that eggs & bacon looked good ! See you Wednesday !
Glad to see you Jennifer 🌹
Sua mulher é muito engraçada
Tô só acompanhado quero ver como vai ficar toda vez que você fez seu comida eu fico com vontade kk
It’s looking great. Those beams really jump out with the walls on.
I used to take off my shirt, stuff it in my cap and hold up the sheetrock to the ceiling with my head while I nailed it.
Richard you need some wind chimes their so peaceful sounding! I'm enjoying watching the work you do it gives me ideas.
3rd 😉 🇦🇺
Everything is looking great, you should rent or buy one of those drywall hangers so you don't hurt your back.
Good old trigger finger! I've had it 4 times on various fingers and hands...3 operations and by the time of the 4th a friend of mine told me to try CBD cream. Rubbed it on the joint every night and within a couple of weeks, I could make a fist and straighten my hand out, no need for surgery.

What kind of CBD? -Jennifer

Jennifer, up here in Canada I get in from an Indian reservation ( medicinal pot shop ). Light tan colored with the scent of vanilla, about $25 CDN for a 4 oz. pump bottle. In other words it doesn't smell like pot when you apply it. You apply it very sparingly and that bottle lasts about 6 months. I use it on any of my joints that are aching. Ken from Peterborough.
Looks great. Remember, with cable, it is better to be looking at it than looking for it. In case you have to patch In down the track.
Hi Knox, the cabin looks messy today however the mess of today will be the pleasure of tomorrow.
It looks awesome! It is commonly said that thin drywall in 24" centers tends to sag or get wavy, particularly ceilings and sometimes walls. I'm not a drywall expert, but if you have a friend who is, maybe send them a link to this video and see if they recommend adding extra studs, blocking, or ceiling joists.

Being Richard's build, doesn't matter too much. But being a builder myself, all studs were 18 inches centre to centre. But in the good old days 1967. OB HWD and noggins as well. My new house with trusses the studs are 600 mm apart and dry wall and no problem with the plaster sheets. Houses built back in my time were a lot more solid.
Just a small criticism . . . I would add more screws around the edges of the seams between sheetrock. Just to ensure the seams don't pop after mud is applied! Looking great!
Using the slabwood for all your trim. Kind of how you did the compost outhouse. A little more of the hobbit feel to the cabin. God bless stay safe
👍😏🇨🇦👌
I like your breakfast, works for any time of day.
I'm sure Richard's clothes won't put too much stress on that pipe but I'll bet Jennifer's might bend that sucker!!!🤣🤣 Hey, I finally found a beautiful Bluetick Coonhound named Macie. One of these days I'll have to drop by so she and Smoky can run the woods!!

LOL, Bob!! That got me tickled. Yes, bring that coonhound around. We would love to meet you both! -Jennifer
You can get sheetrock bits that will countersink the screws for you and you don't have to pump the drill. Much easier and faster.
You mentioned using slab wood to cover the joints in your closet. How about using some cedar slabs. It will keep the bugs out of your closet.
How it feels to move in a place that for me look like haven on earth?
👍😉🇩🇪
Gosto muito de assistir seus vídeos se der põe legenda em português sou Nelson de Suzano São Paulo Brasil
Do you think that your clothes might hang and snag on the slab wood? Is your closet a walk in closet?
I like the exposed black beams, will you be using black hardware lighting fixtures?
That’s a cool coffee pot... where did you get that
You have finger trigger, I've had it three times
Coming out with any Camo smoky mountain outpost clothing?

Great idea!
Concerning your finger and hand palm pain you can massage it with a natural magnet. The more you massage it the better result you get. For easy reference this magnet is a available through nikken corp ( well products ) and the item is called Mag Boy .
I believe your gona have a little problem on your hands about ole Smokey staying outside, he looks pretty happy in the cabin.
add some of those 18” Closet with Pull Chain (ENERGY STAR) LED lights. (luke warm or white) Jennifer: whats a Blind fish called? Answer: ssh
what was your history before starting smoky mountain?? work wise etc enjoy your hard work witty daughter lol

Building your cabin out there, looks like you’ve dropped a few pounds Richard.
Using green wall studs is not wise to hang drywall on
you should eat more vegetables ;-))

sorry, floor to ceiling seams in drywall are not to code....
I am going to have to turn the brightness down or get out my sun glasses if you are going to keep wearing shorts.... LOL You still got working man legs and have not grown your retiree legs yet.
you look tired & seemed a little flat, I hope you are feeling ok.

Yep, but that is his breakfast of choice. -Jennifer
You seemed a little grouchy. Maybe because of your finger. Maybe you need a break.
Mud and tape the seams, do it right slabwood⁉️ UGLY AS HE'LL‼️ SNAP OUT OF IT. you need to continue the 2x4"s around the closet, on the back and sides so you can install a shelf. COME ON.
