Building a bushcraft shelter | overnight in the rain

Ойын-сауық

In this video I spent a beautiful day in Minnesota building a simple bushcraft style shelter. I cooked some delicious chicken quesadillas over the fire and enjoyed a peaceful evening before the rain started during the night. It continued to rain into the morning so I made a quick breakfast before heading out. Hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching.

That was a good example of a makeshift shelter for a survival situation. I think i even saw a frost river backpack. :)

Nice shelter build. With that much snow, would have worried about a ground fire, but local conditions are hard to predict sometimes. Nice video, thank you.

If I don't plan on using it in the near future I dismantle it so the wood can decompose back into the soil faster.

It's pretty hardly to have an all in one. However, it's not the best tongs or the best spatchula.

I don't understand a good video but why wouldn't you bring a piece of plastic 6 ft by 10 ft long because it covered it your shelter with the plastic and you wouldn't have got wet. I don't understand you guys. You go out there and you think the branches and the woods going to stop the rain. No you got to have some kind of plastic to cover it. Just something to think about.

Because he’s doing an authentic bushcraft shelter. No plastic in the woods mate.

Nobody's an authentic bushcraft or anymore. What did he do? He brought his own wood stove. He's using a frying pan. Give me a break if he can't use his head and bring a piece of plastic to cover his shelter. Well, what can I say?

Sometimes it is the experience of not having something that makes you appreciate things more. I have plenty of tarps and tents and even hot tents but its trips like these that really make you appreciate what you have.

Is it just me, or is that massive tree directly behind you dead & already at about a 50 degree angle getting ready to fall??

The tree behind me is a large cedar that is very much alive. They are known to lean because of the soft soil they grow in but they have an extensive root system so I felt pretty safe. I cut some of the dead lower branches off that were in the way of the shelter.

Let's see them build a shelter as if they got lost with no ax or saw as if it was a hunter

In the can of an emergency such as getting lost you would have to build a simple debris style shelter. There are a lot of videos about building them. Most of them use balsam or spruce boughs as protection from the elements. They can also be used to keep yourself off the cold or wet ground.
