Building a 3D printed Full Scale T-800 Terminator Endoskeleton - Episode 2

Welcome to Hobby World - A place of imagination and creativity
In this video I’m 3D printing and building my very own T-800 terminator endoskeleton in full scale. This is properly the largest 3d printing project I have ever done so I’m really excited about how it’s going to turn out.
Due to the massive size of the project I have decided to make it as several episodes.
In this episode I’m mostly working on three different things:
- First of all I’m building a stabilizing stand for the model so it can stand upright on its own without breaking.
- The 3D printed head needs to have a completely smooth surface so I can paint it with a chrome paint. There are several things I need to figure out to get a good result.
- And I’m also working a little bit on the electrical systems.
As I have never done a project of this size there is a lot of stuff I need to figure out as I work with the build. This is also my first real project video here on KZread so I hope you all like it. And please don’t judge me too hard for all of the beginner’s mistakes :) I have learned a lot making this video, and I'm sure that the next one will be even better.

Great idea to use 3D resin & UV light for smoothing your prints. I'll try it as well.

I can recommend it, it worked really well on the head, but sanding is still required afterwards for the best finish. But it did make the work process easier and faster.

Absolutely love this build, well done. Maybe to cut down the printing time you could use Aluminium tubing in various configurations to look like the pneumatic cylinder’s.

Thanks, I have put a lot of work in it so it means a lot. I considered that when I started the build, it would have looked really great and it would have made the build so much easier (no need to remove layer lines and sand those parts). I decided to do the fully 3d printed version though this time. My next robotic build is without doubt going to use Aluminum tubing.

if you want to raise the viscosity of the resin you should use some baby powder . great work

UV resin smoothing instead of vapor bathing sounds awesome, although it does require painting afterward to get any benefit from it, unless the resin-itself is colored maybe? Using magnets is awesome too, it's a great project overall and I'll be looking forward to further videos!

Thanks for the comment, it might be possible using colored resin, but as the layers are very thin it might require a lot of layers. Great idea though, it worth trying on a future project. Hope that you will enjoy the upcomming videos, just posted the next episode yesterday :)

If you didn't done that yet, may be use a paint gun instead of airbrush for a resin as well?

  • @HobbyWorld_one

    @HobbyWorld_one

Well a great idea, should be alot faster than the airbrush, but I actually painted most of it up last weekend. I'll definitely consider it for the next project though :)

Thanks for you comment :) Personally I like the glossy look of the teeth but a satin finish might be a bit better, so I might consider that when I start the final detailing of the model :)

7:10 - I don't want to be that guy, but you should really be wearing gloves when doing this. Aside from that, great work - it's always nice when all that time and hard work starts paying off with a great result.
