    Basically this is neck through guitar ...All you need is to slap some wings on either side of that thing and you got a little cigar box firebird.. .. she's great work.. Nicely done ..

    Do you make your own 3 string Humbuckers Pickups?

  • @user-pg3vg6yc6j
    @user-pg3vg6yc6j9 ай бұрын

    If you make some 1/16" rabbets in the neck where it fits in the box you will have enough space to close the box and it will give a little room for future expansion that if joint were tight could cause box to split. Im assuming you are using hardwood for neck and 1/8" of material removed won't effect integrity of the neck.

    It looks great, never find a cigar box like that around here. Guess will have to make one. Where did you get the specs for your guitar neck, or did you just follow a tele neck? Actually where did you get the design at all? Also, where did you find the 3 string hum bucker pickup? I am only seeing 4 string pickups.

    so, the neck sits 1/8” proud of the top. and then you add the fret board. When looking at the video it seems the neck is higher than an 1/8”. Sorry for asking, want to build my first one, and I amseeing a lot of rvideos on making them, but not the info for measurements. This si the ifrst I have seen where this info is being given, and thank you for this.

    6:47 .. my first cbg ran into that problem... from then on I designed my builds such that the neck can slide all the way through from the opening to the back of the box, the neck is screwed in place, top and bottom for easy removal for repairs if necessary... Just my own observation and opinion: I think the bracing in your box is overkill! 😉 And thank you for pronouncing Shinto correctly! A favorite cbg builder youtuber of mine always says Shin-too! I tell him there are no Shintoo shrines in Japan! 😂 (now if only I can convince him there's no such thing as a "Fostner" bit!) 20:47 OMG! I need to make one of those!!!

    No offense to anyone meant. Beyond the fun factor and the different look, what are advantages of cigar box guitars? This is not a rhetorical question. Please, feel free to educate me (as long as you do it respectfully and politely). I tried a cigar box guitar once. They are not easy to balance. The sound is O.K., not exactly great. I am probably missing something. I'll be ding-dong if I know what it is! Cheers, Dave. P.S. I follow your creative videos. I've learned a great deal from them. Many thanks!

    Well the fun factor is important. But also it being fewer strings makes it easier in some ways. Usually tuned to an open power chord and sometimes played with a slide. Ultimately it comes down to just being unique and for some it has a good blues vibe and/or a good diy vibe. Ultimately a similar(though not identical effect) could be accomplished with a standard 6 string by just taking off 3 of the strings, keeping A, D, and g. Then drop the A to G. The main difference then is that you don’t get the shorter neck width which may not be desirable - string spacing is probably tighter too. I do think there could be some interesting things done with 3 string solid bodies though…

  • @homebuiltshop

    My drum sander is a Supermax 16-32. While it is wide enough for an electric body (just barely) I now wish I'd have gotten the 19-36. I feel that size would work much better. I will likely upgrade mine to that size.

    @@homebuiltshop Thanks. If the 16-32 will work, I am going with that. The next size up is a bit of an increase in cost. But it looks like it will handle an acoustic back/front.

    I guarantee you can do this project with just a few hand tools. A hand saw, chisel, razor knife, cheap drill and maybe a couple other things you can find in your garage or in the junk bin at your local pawn shop. Your guitar doesn't even have to have a perfect radius on the neck. Just make what you can. Not having "fancy tools" is no excuse with this project. Stop making excuses for not creating something. That same motivation to "make it happen" can have you owning a few power tools in no time.
