Builder transforms old RV into unique tiny home

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

When Joe Weissbeck lost his property in 2009, he began converting a rundown RV- purchased for $350- into a one-of-a-kind mobile home. While living in it, he tore it down completely and rebuilt it over the course of 3 years.
Resembling an animal or insect, the home is all aluminium and strips of recessed glass which expose the “ribs” (off-the-shelf vinyl fence posts which serve as structural support). This segmenting allows shards of light to enter the home and creates an almost scaled-like exterior.
Weissbeck spent just $5000 on materials, much of which was repurposed or found. Believing that small spaces need to be open, he left the entire space free of walls (even the toilet is just half-hidden by the kitchen sink) and lofted a skylit bedroom over the driver’s seat.
Weissbeck is currently parked in the desert of southeastern Oregon where the nearest grocery store is 120 miles away. He says when he’s taken the vehicle/home into town (it still drives), it gets a lot of attention. “People are drawn to something that is unique and unusual, our society is so boxed out… I get a lot of comments, they think it’s kind of space-shippy or kind of like an animal, or an insect of some sort.”

"The refrigerator that came with the RV committed suicide". I just about died laughing when he said that with such a sincere and shocked expression on his face! What a quirky, funny guy! He is the kind of guy that you would love to have in your group when sitting around the campfire at night-he would have everyone up way too late, laughing for hours at all his stories! Then you would finally stumble off to bed, only to be woken early the next morning by someone making coffee wayyyyyy too early singing happily to themselves!!

I do Love builders!! I like what he has done, love that he has not spent loads of cash, I like the fact that he keeps busy, entertained with his projects he reminds me of my dad he's almost 80 years old and we still haul reclaimed wood from around the neighborhood BY FOOT, no car and up the hill. We put the wood on a dolly, tie it securely and star moving I get an internal very happy GIGGLE while I watch him pull the load of wood while I push. It makes me happy to see him active and strong instead of lethargic and depressed. I love doing this with my dad and BTW I'm a girl. So congratulations to this guy!! Keep doing your thing man, I've learned a few things from you today 💪✌

Great job finding these types of alternative lifestyles. His ideas are very cool, rough in this last version but seeing the many beautiful foundational homes he has talent that is excellent in that it is not limited by others preconceived ideals. The use of light in ways outside of the box is very cool, as well as alternative idea about using fencing to frame it out. Witness to the mind of imagination and spirit of overcoming the losses he had. I say if the economy crashed and the world fell apart, this kind of unusruped tenacity would lead others into future that could overcome its past.

The folks who create such structures are so fascinating! These mini documentaries are not just about tiny living spaces, they show the brilliance of the human mind, the capacity to go beyond our perceived limitations, and the ability to create beautiful things. And that we dont have to follow what everyone else is doing, and trap ourselves in a bubble. So many essential life lessons to be learned from this. So inspiring!

I knew someone who had a huge weird old skylight in her bedroom with separate panes separated with mullions. It seemed rather odd, but I am sure more interesting to see the sky than a ceiling fan. I like how creative he is with butterflying wood to double the coverage area. He is an talented architect and engineer by the looks of his work.

Kirsten, While I am impressed with the cost and the overall design and creativity, it seems to be a template to be used to inspire people to utilize the ideas Joe has implemented and perhaps upgrade the products used in the construction, in hopes of it being stronger and more maneuverable, so it would not have to be hauled to a destination, but driven, (in case of whatevers). The setting and environment Joe has chosen for his home are the things dreams (My Dreams) are made of. : ) I Love all of his designs he allowed us to view, showing some of his wonderful talent.
