@cherneye it has gyoza (typically at least $5 a serving) and chashu (at LEAST $5 as an add on) and the egg ($3 in most shops). Instant noodles are delicious but you're not paying for instant noodles, you're paying for both the experience and the add ons. Okay even with the labour, all the additions, I still think $15 isn't worth it. HOWEVER, it's gimmick store in NYC. You are paying for something that is considered unique for NYC. They have similar stores in Japan/Korea for much cheaper, even much cheaper stores with in house-made ramen with that many toppings (usually add your own veg/chili oil toppings) in places in the US or Australia where I live - but it's gonna cost more if its a gimmick like a build your own instant ramen store which is more rare/unique for the US. Plus, I'm gonna assume Lisa got paid way more for this video vs how much the food cost. Edit: I will also point out that you can the cheaper ramen for $3.50 up to $6.50 for the pricer ramen with unlimited basic/classic toppings (veg, spices, etc.). In NYC, $6.50 for a light meal, eating out, is cheaper than elsewhere. For $15, there's better quality, housemade ramen with essentially the same toppings Lisa got. Though, a proper ramen restaurant are making the same profit from the cost of ingredients, but they charge for skilled cooking + employee work, this store charges for gimmick + employee work.
@vikiwalters8767

Price breakdown as add ons in most ramen restaurants in my medium sized city: Chashu: $5 Marinated egg: $3 Gyoza: $4-$6 Plus she's adding the veggies and other basic toppings. And then the good quality instant ramen which is obviously more expensive than your standard $.20 bag of Maruchan. Couple that with the gimmick and being in one of the world's most expensive cities and that ramen is a steal
@hutchio
Ай бұрын
@@vikiwalters8767 My comment was defending the price for the same reason haha, for a gimmick in NYC, the price is not bad - I wouldn't say a steal but not overpriced. Those prices you listed are for a ramen restaurant where toppings are often included in the bowl of ramen & there's more labour to pay for overall. I'd say the instant ramen shown on the wall, none cost the restaurant more than $.50-1 USD a packet buying in bulk. Looking at prices online, an average ramen restaurant in NYC, house made with similar toppings costs around the same as the bowl Lisa made ($14-16). More upscale ramen places in the area being $18-20 a bowl, cheaper places about $10-13 a bowl (still similar toppings and amount). I did learn in the process, Melbourne (basically Australia's NYC) ramen restaurants are roughly 5 USD or less cheaper than most ramen restaurants in the US, with prices converted! Interesting to me, as our food/restaurant prices are generally equal or even more expensive than in the US.
@vikiwalters8767
Ай бұрын
@hutchio I think for Melbourne I'd have to say you're also much closer to Japan and Korea so the cost of shipping a lot of the more popular ingredients over might be a bit less? That is wild, though, my friend in Melbourne always hears our prices like HMM MUST BE NICE.

I expected that a Singaporean would know how it's actually not that bad of a price when there is multiple added ingredients but I guess not. You do realise chicken rice, the most basic and cheap dish we have here is sold for like 10 bucks there right?
Yummy

It is now day 270 of asking Lisa if she can do a series where she cooks a food from each letter of the alphabet?
For that price in my city I can get a full size of butter chicken, rice/biriyani, 1 naan and a lassi. For $12 and probably 2 samosas with mint chutney and tamarind sauce. Woof.

@hutchio I think for Melbourne I'd have to say you're also much closer to Japan and Korea so the cost of shipping a lot of the more popular ingredients over might be a bit less? That is wild, though, my friend in Melbourne always hears our prices like HMM MUST BE NICE.
I want to go there so bad
Im sadly headed to ny ... 😢
I meam the most expensive topping is the char siu and gyoza. Other than that its quite expensive. For an instant ramen.
You should go to the most expensive place to get ramen in New York
Me literally. Can I get ALL the marinated eggs?
Where is it??
for real guys, make your own chashu and then tell me $15 is too high. The instant ramen part isn't the selling point, it's the toppings.
I can get a real ramen for 15$ here, but I’m sure that’s not the case in NYC. For all the toppings and a ramen packet that costs around 5$ that’s not a horrible price.
Dude u can get all if that in sg for like 5 bucks where is that
This concept is pretty much Hong Kong cart noodles but with instant noodles and pack soup instead of fresh ones.
Crazy $$$$$ fly out your glass house
Is migoreng good ??
You just know she aint paying for this
So is this like a hotpot thing with the addition of gyoza?
That’s crazy they sell a huge pack of ramen at Costco for like 11$ for 45 pack. But do you darling 😂

You can eat Maruchan with no additions or you can eat quality instant ramen and add toppings to fill out your meal. Neither is wrong but you can't compare the two.

These exist all over the place in Korea, but you pay like $4-7. What a rip

Yeah, the price is because it's considered unique/a gimmick for NYC. Other than pizza, everything has like $10 or more added onto it in NYC.

america has different cost of living and the ingredients are more expensive to source, plus less people that properly know how to make it. same way that american styled food is more expensive in korea

This is okay, but man, it's cheaper to make it at home. If you have an Asian store near you, buy the ingredients and keep them on hand. There are a lot of cheap finds in these stores.
