Just a tip, you can buy spray nozzles that tap into the PVC pipe and further atomize the water which the plants can absorb easier.
I have heard that "Non-food-grade" plastics might contain dyes, recycled materials, or additives that make the bucket more fit for different jobs, like concrete needs to be soft walls but reinforced top etc. And these pass no specific test to say that they don't leach chemicals, as there is no value in testing for that in a bucket not meant for that. However I have heard a lot of chatter about how the food grade plastic is mainly using the tested process, not testing in each company's bucket and that factors such as UV damage over time is not factored into their safety. But I don't know what to believe. I use HDPE 02 or pp05 food grade with UV stabilisation and cross my fingers. All the greens we buy from the store are pumped with microplastic anyway, so I don't think we can do any worse than the big companies, if we try to take some mediocre precautions like choosing the right UV protected plastic, or covering the buckets with something to limit UV damage.
Wow. Simplicity is the art of genius. Leonardo. 💪🏼
Scratches and rough surfaces can harbor bactaria and permit spoilage. as long as the inside surface is clean and perfectly smooth, it's food grade HDPE. If a bucket that is labled as food grade becomes scratched or develops a rough surface on the inside, it is no longer food safe.

Buckets that are labled 1,2 4 or 5 are food safe as long as the inside is not scratched.
Muy bueno excelente video ahora si encontré un video q t enseña algo muy pero muy practico muchas gracias por compartir maestro saludos desde México
I love this. Definetely going to build something similar. Tip: when drilling into plastic, go in reverse and use the heat generated from the friction to melt through and create your hole. --I dont have a heat gun currently😅

a heat gun is less than $20 at Harbor Freight You can often find it on sale for like $12
great video!

@@ZenGardenOasis.I have read recently if it has any numbers from 1 to 6. It is BPA free if it has 7. It has BPA. In it

1/2 is the inside diameter of the pipe. The outside diameter is 3/4
Thank you !

Welcome!
Restaurants also get ingredients in large HDPE buckets
Do not use a spade or paddle bit. It is the most dangerous bit to use because it can grab and you might be the receiver of the bit! Use a hole saw, powered in REVERSE! It wont hang up and it does give a cleaner cut without the heat gun.

I agree. I've been cutting them in reverse for years. It seems counter-intuitive but it will keep you from hurting yourself because it won't grab unexpectedly. The center bit I run in forward, once the pilot bit goes through, I switch to reverse.
Hello. Thank you for the video. I am recently interested in the hydrophonic system. My question is that with holes around the lid on the bottom, won't that let light in and create algae?
Can we use net pots with coco pit in the holes for growing leafy greens
Thank you very much for a full tutorial, it'll be the exact model for our research so this'll come in handy. 😊😊 Btw, if I may ask, how often do u plan to refill/change the water cuz I've read that the concentration changes over time. (2) When and for how long do you turn on the pump? Sorry for many questions, thanksss though.😅💛

Refill as needed once 50% loss of water. 12 hours on 12 off via a timer. More heat more time needed. Thanks for your comment. Have a great day…
How does water get to the bucket lids to drain through the small holes you drilled in the lid? Don't small holes need to be drilled into the bottom of the buckets? Or does enough liquid get through around the center tube of one bucket on to the lid below? Thanks and it's a great idea overall.
The lift should be calculated for 1” of water column. I could be wrong but if you’re using 3/4” pipe, it should lift higher than advertised.
Love the video. So, how do you put the seeds in? Right onto the luffa sponge? Or does it need any other soil material?
@ZenGardenOasis.

Direct sow into sponge
have you considered adding a uv light for bacteria?
That was a great video very helpful and how to build one thank you. I suppose now I need to educate myself. On what type of good chemicals to put in the water? And how do I grow my plant from seed and put it appropri? Play inside the pool noodle... Things I need to learn yet unless you have any suggestions or videos

I need to update. This week I’m working on a new aeroponic tub. Please keep an eye out for it…..have a great day.

While I don't know the answer to your question (but I read HDPE plastic can be made of multiple plastics, and the construction/sale environment of the plastic bucket could be contaminating them), you could use a 5 gallon bucket food grade bag/liner. Also is that water pump food grade rated? I heard grease can be in non-food grade pumps, and mystery plastic potentially.

Thanks for the info. Have a great day!
put duct tape where you plan to drill and that will keep the plastic from braking and tearing.
Use a Ram Pump / Syphon system
So if you use the loofah, how many seeds do you put in I would love to see that section of video.

How long do these buckets last in the sun
@ZenGardenOasis.

Some of the buckets I’ve had in full sun for a decade. Fading occurs but plastic is still intact.
What bucket should a I use?

Is it worth it? Not much roughage there protruding from the buckets. I'm really trying to figure if it's worth the effort.

Great but how to stabilize the tower from tipping in high winds?
@ZenGardenOasis.
27 күн бұрын
Use metal rods and zip tie them if you have wind issue
I have read that number one through number six is b p a free number seven is what you do not want.
Good video and very helpful, but way too much redundancy explaining how to do it.
