Video presenting the construction of a remote control excavator.
WARNING. It is not a DIY, it is an example of construction, I am not a professional. I just want to share the making of a compact RC excavator.
The excavator will be semi-scale, so not 100% identical to the real model, some parts are adapted according to the constraints of the scale model.

    Why not build an actual mini trench digger? That will keep digging a straight line back and forth until its stopped. Maybe using a spinning carbide tipped blade. Even if you had to shovel the loose dirt out from behind it, it would be a help on hard ground.

    That is not silver solder, just standard electrical solder.. that's not gonna hold anything for any significant period of time unless it's purely decorative. But regardless, it's still impressive looking. You would probably really enjoy a cold welder or a tig welder and just doing fusion welds, should look one up, they are a great addition to any metalworkers arsenal. Easy to use, stronger than solder

  • @BartsteRCModels

    @BartsteRCModels

    3 жыл бұрын

    It's tin solder not silver solder. I use silver only for cylinder or parts need a strong solder. But for this kind of parts tin solder is great and didn't need too much heat. no deformation and still strong enought for a little model like this. Thinking about a tig solder for long time but a good model is expensive

  • @Keri-Kerigan

    @Keri-Kerigan

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@BartsteRCModels ah. that makes sense. I think I've only dealt with tin solder once, way back in trade school. Been using silver ever since. And yeah, at its temp deformation can be an issue, especially when it comes to sheet work. As for the tig, if you do get one, don't skimp out on it. You really want one with rock-solid amperage control, but again, they're pricy little buggers. Out of curiosity thoe, what do you find has a stronger bond for small work like that? Epoxy or Tin solder?

  • @BartsteRCModels

    When steel is involved I always use solder that contains lead, Pb, typically named for example 63Sn37Pb. For use on water pipes, copper, there is the solder without Pb, but it's does not work that great for steel IMO. Roughing the steel with some sandpaper also helps in getting the solder stick better. In addition I put on flux solvent on the surfaces (even if the solder contains flux), to make the solder float even better. Most critical when it's steel to steel. When steel to brass not so critical with extra flux.

    For blade only. Each system, electric and hydraulic have their pros and cons. For this project, electric cylinders works fine, with the cover and after the paint, they will be well integrated. They have internal end cut and need only one mini esc for work. No problem of hydraulic slipring (space) and less expenssive. They hold position under extrem condition of working.
