    I apologize for being wordy. I am a KZread fan of yours. I am writing this to several presenters. About 60 years ago, I took high school woodshop. Thereafter, I learned a few basic things from my grandfather and father. Over the following 20+ years, I had neither the money nor the space to do any woodworking. About 25 years ago, some tools were passed on to my by parents, so I took over my garage, but my skill was rudimentary; the things I created were crude and imprecise, but I enjoyed the process. About 5 years ago, I got very sick. During my recovery, I discovered you and your colleagues on KZread. Since then, I have been a junky watching mostly woodworking videos. I must THANK YOU and your colleagues for teaching me so very much. I moved to a new home and created a shop on casters (I have to move cars) and have tried many of the things YOU have taught me-and bought way too many new tools!. I now spend as much time as possible in my shop and have actually created some pretty good project products and shop furniture. Without you to help me through my convalescence and your clearly understandable videos, I don’t think I would be enjoying this hobby as I do. Thank you and the whole KZread woodworking community.

    We are all here to learn. I grateful that you are back to good health and have a shop - with cars. I have a shop in the attic of a 2 1/2 story house. City wouldn't let me put in a larger shed & cited possible noise complaints. I'm getting plenty of exercise so at least my doctor is happy.

    They're just basing that on the views. There's enough data out there to show what people are watching. I agree that aren't "dead" per se but they don't get as many views. If you watch (or listen to) Steve Ramsey's podcast, The Woodworking Talk Show, everybody including Jason from Bourbon Moth says that project videos get the least amount of views for them and are the most amount of work. Although I do love project videos myself, if it's something I don't want to make or I'm not curious to see how one goes together, I'm probably not going to watch either if I'm being totally honest with myself.

    The drawers look great, thanks man, and I learned quite a bit regarding the assembly. Just one thing - whisky/whiskey bottles are not designed to be stored on their sides. Wine is, with the cork wet, but bottles of whisky/whiskey have a different cork with a different purpose, and they're not supposed to be stored on their sides and wet. Just perhaps something to keep in mind for long-term storage!

  • @TmanIsHere

    @TmanIsHere

    I scrolled down to find this comment. Whiskey bottles, unlike wine bottles, should not be stored on their sides. The strong alcohol will impart too much flavor of the cork into the precious whiskey. I guess it's not too bad for a night of drinking, but not recommended beyond that.

    I was going to say the same thing!! My husband, a bourbon lover, is rolling over in his grave seeing all this liquor laying on it’s side! Hard liquor ALWAYS stands up. Just think of the “Top Shelf” liquor at your local bar or liquor store.

    You could use some white-oak hand-plane shavings as a padding for the bottles to keep them from rattling around in there! Really nice looking table, that shadow-line in the sides really makes a HUGE difference! cheers!

    Great square peg into a round hole dowel creation tip. Enjoyed the drawer build. If you are only going to have the bottom drawer, I think I would have made the drawer so that it had the bottles tilted up in the back for better visual display with the lighting.

    Great idea.... Makes sense now that you mention it. I guess that's a cool thing about woodworking, You can always use sandpaper and add to it if you get a good idea down the road. I hope he sees your comment.

    Just a fun tidbit. When I used the flap of masking tape on the drill bit as an ad hoc depth guide when putting extra bolts on my Mom’s mahogany dining room table legs from underneath (DEFINITELY don’t want to punch through that top), my Mom started to laugh. She learned that hack in college in art school. Then there weren’t pre-made canvases for oil painting. They made their own. She’s 93 and used a hand crank drill.

    Having made drawers with wooden slides, keep a couple of things in mind: 1) make sure there is a gap between the drawer grove and slide large enough to account for seasonal expansion/contraction, otherwise come August, that drawer will not want to move and 2) the wood on wood drawer/slide combination will eventually begin to wear (given it may be many many years from now depending on use), but attaching the wooden slides with screws only (no glue) will make that repair dramatically easier...a couple of extra screws are plenty strong enough to hold up the drawer.
