Good, easy to understand video. I use this for my 14 Liter Nano Tank. A very cheap and effective method to produce CO2. I don`t have a diffusor like your`s, I use an airstone hanging free in the tank. At day, when more CO2 is needed for my plants, I hang it down to the bottom of the tank. In the night, when no CO2 is needed, I lift the airstone to the water surface. So I don`t need to take the tube away every time.

One thing I noticed, in my experiences, is hot glue can sometimes fall apart when exposed to humidity for prolonged amounts of time, such as a DIY CO2 system… just saying. It may work for some people, and it is very useful for many things, but when water is involved it can become disintegrated or corroded, possibly causing a leak in the system. But I would just stick with the waterproof silicone to avoid that. 😀

I tried using 2 bottles using a t-connector to generate Co2, but coz of the possible pressure difference, the co2 was getting generated from only 1 bottle... whats the solution to that? 3. How many times can i use the jelly in the generator bottle?
Great idea. Tried it and its running for the past 3 days and I am pleased. I liked your idea about just changing the yeast water once a week to make the CO2 generation last longer.

Every thirty days, the jelly needs to be replaced, and during that time, it will melt and crumble. You can easily remove it at that point by pressing the bottle.

And I'm definitely up for trying your method, which btw is so cool and thoughtful. I just have one question though, can I attach the CO2 outlet to my existing power head filter, which I also use for O2, at the same time? Like there's O2 and CO2 being dispersed into the aquarium by the same power head.

And when you use CO2 (when the lights are ON) you don't have to inject / disperse air into the aquarium. CO2 is not required at night or when the lights are off. At that time you can disperse air through a power filter or use an air pump / air stone.

I want to say first and foremost thank you so much for the video. I’ve watched tons and yours is by far the best! I want to make sure I’ve done this correctly. I’ve had it set up for a couple hours now and I’m seeing bubbles in the bottle with water in it (no bubbles are forming in the diffuser 😕). But only 1 bubble every 21 seconds. I’ve checked for leaks and I don’t have any. Does it need more time to build up co2? Or should I make the yeast water again with more yeast? I halved the amount of each ingredient because the bottle I have is not large enough.
@madebykm
2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it will take more time for the pressure to build up and then the diffuser will work. You don’t have to make the yeast-water again, just add more yeast to the solution, CO2 production will increase. For more information, please see the video description. Thank you.

Hi Kaushik, Thank you for sharing such great videos. I made a CO2 reactor using the yeast and sugar method but whenever I try to bring the water pipe to the bottom of the tank the bubbles stop and CO2 stops. Also, the pressure is too less. Please help
@madebykm
Жыл бұрын
You can use 1/2 teaspoon yeast instead of 1/4 teaspoon to produce more CO2 and increase pressure. Also, place the diffuser in a specific place inside the tank. When enough pressure is created, it will work perfectly. Also check the description box for more information. Thanks.
Great tutorial! I have a question and would be appreciated if you help. I made this system and it was working fine for 3 days with a DIY diffusor but then I bought a glass CO2 diffuser from the market. I detached the tubing from the DIY diffuser and CO2 gas leaked from the system as it should be and I attached the tubing to the new CO2 diffuser. It has been 16 hours now, I still see the bubbles in the second bottle (1 bubble in 5 seconds) but no CO2 coming out from the diffuser. Should I wait more?
@madebykm
2 жыл бұрын
These ceramic diffusers take some time to work, when enough pressure is created in the bottle, bubbles will come out of it. Also, check for leaks in the CO2 system, if there are any leaks, no pressure will be created and the diffuser will not work.

Also, if you use 1/2 teaspoon of yeast, CO2 production will increase and glass diffuser will work better. Please see the video description for more information. Thank you.

How much time to generate the co2 gas in the bottle ?
Ultimately have been able to built one and am following your formula. But one question. I find around 22 bubbles per minute are being released, not more. Will it be sufficient for a 17G planted aquarium or do I need to add another bottle. For the records I am also using the DIY Internal Filter methods as CO2 Diffuser, as suggested by you. Thanks once again.....

Increase the CO2 production by using 1/2 of a teaspoon of yeast, and aim for a CO2 injection rate between 1.5 and 2 bubbles per second.

CO2 must be supplied as long as the light is on. Even if you run this DIY CO2 24/7 there will be no problem. Just run an air pump at night to keep the oxygen level in the aquarium water high.
Question sir can I just take out the diffuser itself out of the tank? like stick it beside the outside glass? As I cannot detach the hose from the check valve because for me it makes the hose loose and cannot fit tightly after re attached and can't even use a airstone also because of its strong disturbing noise during night time caused by the pump.

Hey Kaushik, I am planning to make one diy co2 system, however I have some questions…I would appreciate if you have time to reply. What is the other name for Agar Agar powder? What is the actual purpose of the jelly in the bottle, compared with other diy co2 systems where there’s only water with sugar and yeast? Thanks for your time
@madebykm
Жыл бұрын
1. Agar-agar aka Chinese gelatin / Chinese isinglass / Japanese gelatin / Japanese isinglass / China grass is a gelatinous substance derived from seaweed (specifically red sea algae) and used in biological culture media and as a thickener in foods. This is a vegetarian alternative to gelatin. 2. In the normal DIY CO2 method (yeast+sugar) CO2 production only lasts 7 to 14 days and so you have to throw away the old mixture and make a fresh yeast+sugar+water mixture every week or two. But in this jelly method, you need to make the jelly once and it will last for 4-5 weeks. You only need to change the yeast-water weekly to keep the CO2 production rate stable. Hence, it will reduce the cost and also reduce the hassle of preparing the whole mixture frequently. Moreover, the production of CO2 in this system will not fluctuate and will be at a constant rate. This is the advantage of this method. Thank you.
Thanks for this great info. My ramirezi try to eat the bubbles of CO2 from the difusser, is not harmful to the fish? 👍
@madebykm
2 жыл бұрын
No, it’s not harmful at all. Fish sometimes play with the bubbles, they do the same in my aquarium also.
Hey Kaushik, I'm so grateful to you for all these amazing videos you've posted. I have learnt so much. I wanted to ask you if we can use Gelatin instead of Agar Agar powder and keep the proportions and the recipe exactly the same? Or, only Agar Agar can actually react with the yeast and not the Gelatin? Thank you brother.
@madebykm
2 жыл бұрын
Actually, using gelatin will not produce good results. This is because the jelly made using gelatin melts at outside / room temperature (25°C-40°C). Gelatin works well in cold environments (

@madebykm

Ok, then proceed with the unflavoured gelatin. And if you want to use gelatin-based jelly crystals powder (e.g. Jell-O), please follow my other DIY CO2 video.
What happens if this puts too much co2 in the water? That's what I'm worried about because apparently it can kill your fish. Really good video btw!
@madebykm
4 ай бұрын
The CO2 concentration above 30-35 ppm in aquarium water is toxic for most aquarium life. A single CO2 generator such as this will never produce that much CO2. Therefore, it is completely safe for all aquarium life. The CO2 production in this method also depends on the amount of yeast used. More yeast = more CO2. This means that you can easily control the CO2 production by adjusting the amount of yeast and thus get your required CO2 rate (bubbles per second) for your tank. You can also use a CO2 drop checker to measure the CO2 levels in your tank. Thank you.
