Build A GARDEN TEEPEE TRELLIS For Vertical Gardening For Under $40

This video is a DIY tutorial on how to build a garden teepee trellis for vertical gardening for under $40! This easy and cheap DIY trellis makes gardening fun and can be built in about 30 minutes. It's so simple!
I've always wanted to be able to walk underneath an arched trellis in my garden and pick fruits and vegetables hanging from plant vines over my head. It seems like an image out of a storybook. You can do that, dirt cheap and simple, with your own vertical gardening teepee trellis!
You can build this teepee for about the cost of one single piece of cattle panel, making it a tiny fraction of the cost of a cattle panel trellis sometimes used as a vertical garden arched trellis.

That’s a very nice set up. I do the same thing, however, I use copse wood instead of EMT conduit. I then employ scrounged electrical wire instead of twine to bind it. I don’t get the dimensional effect you have, but the function is the same. I am a great scavenger, and I’m always looking for things that allow me to garden at no cost. A nice trick is to use plastic to cover the teepees in winter, turning them into a cold frame. I do like the rebar as a foundation point, and may bind the wood uprights to some in the future. Thanks David

Thanks! This teepee, literally, only takes up a 4'x4' square. It has almost no footprint. This is great, because you can jam it in the smallest corner you can find as long as it gets full sun, and because you use grow bags, you don't even need room for a raised bed. I think this is a major space-saver.

I grow mostly snap peas, and they can only take a light frost. Anything into the 20’s and they get damaged. There may be hardier varieties out there, but I prefer snap peas and they can’t take the winters here. Kale, broccoli, chard, some lettuces, spinach, carrots, beets, cabbage and many other things can, though.

I try to be as thorough as possible without dragging these videos out *too* long. I would love to get bamboo, but I can't find any that is 10 feet (6-8 feet is too short), and the cost for bamboo poles is ridiculous, considering it's just an invasive weed when you get right down to it. I've considered growing my own bamboo to harvest them as stakes, but I'm afraid of how invasive it'll be.

We purchased 6 hop rhizomes to plant this spring but the infrastructure we had planned to grow them up now won’t be completed until the late fall, if it’s completed this year at all. I might try this with the hops or a couple vining plants I now don’t have places for because of the construction delays. Great video, as always!

I put those clips on to direct the vines to keep them growing straight. They kept wanting to crawl around the sides of the teepee, so I wanted to lock them into position. It isn't actually for support. I'm not sure how this will perform under fruit weight. The cucumbers were no problem (and they're very large cucumbers), but the Honey Rock cantaloupes are a few pounds, so it'll be interesting to see how it handles those.

I would like to do that, but cattle panels are currently over $30 each, and the cost of wood is through the roof. A "simple" cattle panel trellis these days will cost $100-200, unfortunately, plus the cost of renting a truck since they won't deliver it in my location. I built this because I could do it for $35, and I could easily fit all the material in my car (even the conduit since it fits between seats). I would like to build an arbor, but I did the math and with a U-haul, it'll cost about $300. Maybe later...

They do, but it is a ton of work to bend them evenly, and it is extremely hard to get fittings. Many fittings for EMT-based greenhouses are 1-1/4, so each fitting is very pricey, as is the conduit. I’ve looked into it, but it isn’t cost effective for a raised bed setup.
