    Thats pretty nifty. I did the same cups but used all irrigation pips and no pvc. It fits 150 and waters all at the same time with a 110gallon sump. The 420 gallon pump didnt work for the first 60 cups so we switched to a 3200 gallon and use it as a daily flush and water change. Thanks for the vids!!

    Great vid Cory! I'm wondering if a larger drip system would suffer from unequal pressures along the drip line on each level, making it difficult to dial in each driper without changing the drips of the others. If that's the case, do you think the performance would improve if you went to a loop system like you would an airline?

  • @AquariumCoop

    @AquariumCoop

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Bob Luckey Yeah a loop would be better for a larger system. Typically I find it's the strength of the pump that determines if I'll have problems or not.

    I built a large betta rack awhile ago, using the same principles. Main issue I ran into was that the containers became dirty and it can be quite a chore to wipe down 60+ jars. My containers were a bit larger and semi-permanent so simply swapping them out for new ones wasn't really an option. What I like about yours is that you could probably throw away the cups and replace them once every few weeks instead of having to clean them. Question: Lamont and you both feed live blackworms. What is your source for those? No issues with disease? I know some people are afraid to use them.

  • @AquariumCoop

    @AquariumCoop

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Iowa Discus The goal is that the containers are removable. I'm thinking I could swap the container every time I move the betta to the store or sell it at the store. Put the used container into a bucket of bleach lets says, then rinse it the next day. I'd have to see how that system works. As to the black worms. I bring them in from wholesalers. We go through 10+ pounds every week at the store. I find that all foods have problems with disease. Even flake food spoils. Some parasites etc make it through frozen foods. Sometimes frozen foods get thawed in transit and refroze which fouls them. Even live daphnia if it's from outside has parasites etc. I think you have to weigh the benefits vs the risk. Live black worms really help put weight on fish and spawn them. You could also get some issues. But if you can spawn a fish with live black worms, or not using "safe foods" really only live black worms is accomplishing the goal.

  • @iowadiscus4187

    @iowadiscus4187

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Aquarium Co-Op Agreed, though I think one can minimize the risks with most other packaged food whereas how do you sterilize a living creature? Where would you recommend buying live blackworms from? Do your wholesalers sell to small-time hobbyists?

  • @AquariumCoop

    @AquariumCoop

    8 жыл бұрын

    No, wholesalers only sell to retail stores typically. If I could get the same nutritional profile and the fact that it wouldn't foul the tank from a freeze dried or frozen I'd use them. But I can't so I use live for a few different species. Even shrimp love the live worms.

    Nice video. On the green plastic valves, any issues with durability? I had to swap them out from an air system I had years ago, they didn't seem to hold up like the metal ones. Also, what's in the sump besides water? In a fry-raising system I had, I put in a UGF plate with a few mesh bags of ammo chips and ammo carb just to keep the ammonia at zero; fry didn't like even the slightest ammonia and the full bio cycle wasn't needed due to frequent water change.

  • @AquariumCoop

    @AquariumCoop

    8 жыл бұрын

    +igotadose For the valves, I've been using them 10+ years in air systems. However I don't have that much time using with water so not sure on that. I think if you want to upgrade the metal valves are a nice upgrade but ups the cost by quite a bit on this project.

  • @AquariumCoop

    +Aquarium Co-Op well since the valves are for air lines why not hook an air to the valve run into the lids and add air holes to the lids. water and air still get circulate. May have to raise the filler pvc a bit but it would be safer i think. IMO Just my thoughts

  • @AquariumCoop

    @AquariumCoop

    8 жыл бұрын

    +heatherwanderer777 Well yes, you'd move all the bettas out between shipments etc. That being said bettas are rarely ever sick. The biggest problem they suffer from is velvet which you can med them for when they come in. Really it's not different then bringing in a bag of 300 cardinal tetras. Treat them then move them out to sell them and bring in the next batch.

  • @heatherwanderer777

    how long can fish be kept in this system? I kinda want to breed fish, but I don't want to affect any mental or physical growth or keep them in an unnecessarily small environment. What do you suggest?

    Lots of Betta farms keep the fry in water bottles till they are selling size so I don't think you would have any problems.

    This is a DIY video. You can very well drop the money on a premade rack. This is more for breeders cutting cost.

  • @AquariumCoop

    +Attoz Correct, they're for quarantine. I am considering putting this system in my retail store also. Typically right now, bettas last up to a week in my store before going to their new home. It's a catch 22. Currently all bettas in my store live in 5 gallons or larger, basically in community tanks with other fish. But my selection is low and people want more selection. But no one can afford to put 100 bettas in 5-10 gallon tanks due to retail space prices.

  • @AquariumCoop

    【Arachno Skull】 this is just for breeding and dealing with all that fry, that is not their forever home, the ideal is for them to be sold or whatever you planned to do with them and the buyers can give them the nice 5 gallon tank, or that is how I understand it.

    Not that great those gutters are great for leaking, I know the argument is the water runs out of them but eventually they will leak they all do so yeah you be way better off with PVC instead of gutters so yeah

    They don't live there permanently, it's only temporary growing areas until they can be given new homes. Besides as long as theres a filtration system it's all good. Way better than what stores put them in.
