This is my real exposure to ONE PIECE after watching a couple of the anime episodes. I couldn't get into the animation, but this live action version is soooooooo AMAZING. I agree with you. Buggy is soooo cool and I'm happy to se more of him. The actor is way way handsome!!!

One of the biggest advantages of doing the live action _26 years_ after the series started is that you know which characters are gonna stick around from the start. The fact that Buggy is still relevant and still a disaster 1000 chapters later is such a blessing.

So true. In the anime, it took me seasons to really get it for Buggy. I kept thinking why is this guy such a joke? His power is pretty sick. Eventually came to love the character so I'm so glad that Jeff Ward really knocked it out of the park.

To be honest, buggy was serious earlier in on piece and there were a number of times where he almost killed luffy. As the story expanded and bigger threats came was where buggy became less menacing.

This is genuinely one of the biggest reasons why I want this to get far (and be good) just so I could see Buggy D Clown fail his way to the top again

You got to remember the author didn't expect Buggy to be so loved. Buggy was originally used as a 1 time villain but once the author saw how popular Buggy got, he rewrote the backstory of Buggy to give him more of an importance to the story.

​@@waihochow4635 That's not quite what happened. Oda had one panel stories in the manga that followed everyone Luffy defeated. So they would show Axe Hand Morgan demoted and Bonnie making her way. The Buggy one panels were especially popular with fans. I recommend any fan of one piece look them up, because they are genuinely one of the funniest parts of the manga.

@@joe579003 This was far from a surefire guarantee of it being good though. Being able to create a manga and being able to make a live action TV series work are two completely different skillsets. The fact that he and the directors and the showrunners all managed to get on the same page and make things work really shows the massive amount of talent and understanding of different mediums that Oda has.

@@thegemguy1334 no he didnt, he made sure to make as many changes as possible to fit the new medium and adaptation "true fans" make shit adaptations because they fail to realise they need to change things to fit the new thing they are making because a tv show is not a manga, and what works in one may work in another. Plus if you make an adaptation too close its often rendered uninteresting as it has no unique draw. You need to make a new thing based on the old thing not use the old thing as gospel, because the old thing already exists, why watch the new thing if it has nothing new or different? what would be the point?

jeff ward played him absolutely perfect and beyond. his gestures his expressive eyes his convincent voice his body movements... not to mention that he's so handsome it hurts (when someone is hot under a clown make up & disguise...you know you're fcked). I hope we can see him in more roles next

Honestly I’d only expect the production to get better. They’re gonna be hitting their stride and I wouldn’t be surprised if Netflix throws more money at the next season and start releasing 10 episode seasons.

Honestly the best casting in the whole show. The absolute PERFECT Buggy. Just give him his own spin off at thjs point. He stole every scene he was in

Maybe not a spin off but some short mini episodes to keep him relevant when he doesn't have anything to do in the story would be nice. They can even use that as an excuse to show some of the story developments from the cover arcs.

I really love Buggy the first time he showed up in anime, but the live action version makes me love him even more!

The live action managed to make me fall in love with a character I originally hated. Yes, I intensely disliked Buggy and every time he came on I always wanted him gone and wondered WHY ODA WHY?! Except for Impel Down where he was kinda cool, I thought that was the last of him but alas… That said, the live action made me GET BUGGY, like I GET IT. He is BADASS and AWESOME and I was wrong about him. That’s how magnificent of a performance Jeff Ward did! And now I’m just so STOKED that he will be part of the main story from here on and in the future!

Friendly reminder that Buggy was a part of Gol D. Roger's crew. Oda's gone on to say that he could be on Shanks' level if he'd just put in the effort. There's a fanfic called "This Bites!" (highly recommended) that has an interesting take on him. ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... That a lot of his incompetence is actually just an act. He got weary of the Grand Line, but didn't want to retire as a pirate, so he chose to lay low in East Blue. There's a part in the fic where he lets loose, and my god you would not expect that from him at all.

I’m impress with how well they portrayed Buggy since he is a very animated character and it’s hard to translate that in real life. But the actor did a phenomenal job and they were able to write him in a way where he didn’t feel out of place.

Great editing. Especially want to appreciate the timing with some of the music to the actions. Makes me feel like I'm watching a trailer for a movie where Buggy's the final bad guy.

This buggy seems like some who doesn't need to fail upwards. He is far more menacing than his anime/mange counterpart, and his Devil Fruit powers feel more threatening since it can even nullify blunt force to some degree.

I hope they keep the show this strong in the next season (hopefully seasons) I really like this show. It's so fun, and the casting is perfect.

Before this, me, my sibling and dad watched Jeff Ward's previous role in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Deke Shaw. His role as Buggy the Clown is amazing. Great adaptation.

@@senister14 most of if not the entire upper production group are also fans of One Piece, so this is not just an outlier, it's a straight up passion project. You can tell when you find out about the RIDICULOUS attention to detail on Easter Eggs. The fact that, while they do take some liberties, they don't disrespect the source by doing so, is something that MASSIVELY sets this apart from other adaptions before it.
