Bug vs Archer - Jedok Geom vs Longsword [katana sparring]
Спорт
I fought a longsword user with 10+ years of experience today. It was also a good chance to try out the BaiChuan Sparring Jedok Geom feder in a steel on steel combat test. I lost the bout but I feel it was good opportunity to show the differences between the styles and to have fun.

Thanks! I lost but I thought I showed a few different techniques in there nicely
This is a great spar, even the moments of not attacking, both of you changing positions to counter the opponent is like fighting with your mind
Nice!

It was indeed. Tbanks!
Nice sparring
I'm into firearms mainly but I'm quite interested in getting a sword just to have something different. Saw some of your other videos, really good stuff so far! Definitely subscribing 😎
At 1:08 were you out of range or were you just stopping your attack?

Hi Nathan i thought the source for the Jedok Geom that has survived is the Muyedobotongji manual. I was not aware there was a stand alone manual. I would be interested if you had a link to it. There is a surviving manual based on Wakou pirates in 1612 by Cheng Zongyou for the sword the length of a nodachi. You can also re-enact those techniques to help with sparring. regards

Hi @tvl9971 I'd prefer if you call me Bug here. Muyedobotongji is a collection of 24 standalone manuals added over 4 revisions as chapters. So the jedok geom manual is standalone in that sense but can be found in muyedobotongji. I am aware of cheng zongyous manual, however, jedok geom also utilises techniques with a chang dao as evidenced by the sword dimensions in the manual preface. Contrary to how it is performed by those in sibpalki today, the source material is not stated for use with a katana length sword. I also think Li Rusongs techniques in jedok geom are more straightforward and applicable compared to Cheng Zongyous techniques, though I have tried them and if you want to see a good demonstration of them you should check out my friend the scholar general's channel in his changdao video. Hope that helps!
