Tuning your buffer spring and weight is a very important part of getting your rifle to run at its absolute best. Once you add a suppressor to the system, that can complicate things a little bit. In this video, I explain how to tune your buffer system for shooting suppressed. If you get it just right, you will have a perfectly reliable, extremely soft-shooting platform. You’re also the reason why I’m getting into guntubing. Once my video gear gets in I’m hitting the ground running. One of the owners of Brouwer that make for example the m1811 grip module from sig lives 10 minutes from me and we are close friends. HMU if you ever want to do some reviews on there stuff we can get that worked out. I 100% will be but still I’d love your take on it. My first vid will be on my 11.5 with the polo k. Keep it up man! I've yet to shoot it since I'm still waiting for my Form 1 through my trust, and I'm going to Form 4 a Huxwrx on it shortly after, but I think the buffer should work for both supers and subs given the barrel length and the little bit of back pressure from the flow through can. I'm excited to see how it performs! Enjoying the content, keep it up!

    Recently did a BCM 14.5 build with a YHM T3 on it and it was throwing brass about 1:30. I called the guy's at sprinco and gave them the specs and ejection pattern of my rifle. They gave me a recommendation on what spring and buffer combo to go with, orange spring and H3 buffer. They recommend heavier spring and lighter buffer vs. a lighter spring and going heavier on the buffer.

  • @JosephWhales

    I'm not surprised that a company that sells springs would tell you that. Although the spring has an effect on bolt velocity and therefor ejection pattern, spring weight has little to no effect on locked bolt dwell time. If you add a heavy spring to an over gassed rifle, all you'll get is an overgassed rifle with a good ejection pattern. You're still gonna have all of the problems associated with having an over gassed rifle.

    People over-complicate things. Run the Vltor A5/BCM A5 buffer system with the appropriate buffer so that you get a 4 o’ clock ejection without a suppressor. When you throw on the suppressor, your brass will eject around 3 o’clock with a flow through style and around 2 o’ clock with a traditional style suppressor. It is that simple. It won’t kill you if your brass ejects at the 2 o’clock suppressed. You can do the same thing with a regular carbine buffer system, but I prefer the A5

    I'm currently building my .300 Blackout pistol, with my lower completed. I have a Law Tactical folder on it, and I installed an H2 buffer in the pistol tube. The upper will have a 10.3 barrel, and be unsuppressed for awhile. Later this year, I'll place a Huxwrx Ventum 762 suppressor on it. Cross my fingers, it'll all work together, and fire and cycle well. If not, small changes can be made to tune it correctly, as this video explains. Great stuff!

    It'll probably work great with Supers until you get the suppressor. The only issue with a flow-through can is that it doesn't add any real extra back pressure to help the thing cycle with Subs, but every gun is different. Yours might work perfectly without too much work.

    You probably need an AGB from either SA or Riflespeed. You could probably run an H3 and Springco blue or red and still be overpassed with a polo k on a 10.3. You can't win this with just buffer turning. The super 42 is snake oil. Easy mode would be a BRT EZ tune tube but I understand it takes some amount of understanding before you order one as to what results it will provide. I run an H3 and Springco Blue in a 12.5 with moderate back pressure can but also have it on an SA gas block. 3:30-400 ejection all day with ammo ranging from steel to m193. Try a K spec down vent BCG as well. Less gassy.

    Yeah, tuning the buffer weight can most likely help with cycling speed. The problem with tuning a rifle with a high-pressure suppressor to around 3 o'clock is that it could be less reliable and stop cycling weaker ammo when unsuppressed. Or, if the carrier speed is still fast after H2, the rifle can become pretty jumpy. If you're going to keep that OCL on the MK18, you will be better off with a Vltro A5 H2 or H3, using a Super42 rifle spring. The MK18's gas system is so short and operates under so much higher pressure. A high back pressure can will have a tremendous negative effect on that MK18(and yourself) due to the higher pressure at the muzzle and the high percentage increase to that short gas system.

  • @JohnZ556

    @JohnZ556

    29 күн бұрын

    After comparing my DD MK18 RIII on baffled can and HXQD556Ti, I would very likely go with a CAT WB 718. The K can took the edge off, but the back pressure was pretty bad. Super42 H3 didn't tame it nearly enough, and the unsuppressed reliability was taking a hit. HXQD556TI makes it run perfectly under H2(would even consider H1 under adverse environment), but the muzzle end was pretty bad indoors, tho not as bad as Flow556k.

    The Riflespeed does seem to be a good system, but I've got my 14.5" tuned really well and I'm using the standard pinned gas block on the MK18, so adding buffer weight is going to be the key for that one.

  • @johnch1p

    I've ran into the same issues shooting suppressed due to a small gas port on one of my mid length gas builds. I got a SilencerCo Scythe-Ti and it would cause my rifle to short stroke, fail to lock back the bolt on last round, not chamber new rounds, etc. I played the swap around the buffer weight game until I put a Vltor A5 H2 buffer system in after a recommendation from my LGS. It fixed all those issues without having to make any modifications to the gas port or change the buffer weight. The rifle shoots suppressed and unsuppressed reliable now. After that I went ahead and installed it in all my mid length builds (14.5" - 16"). Don't get me wrong the Geissele super 42 buffer system is great but if you are really looking for a reliable soft shooting experience with mid length gas systems while shooting suppressed and unsuppressed then I recommend the Vltor A5 buffer system. Also not required but helpful is a adjustable gas block. I recommended the superlative arms low pro gas block. It's definitely an added bonus if you can afford it. Like you I learned that tuning your rifle for shooting suppressed and unsuppressed reliably is important if you want to have an enjoyable shooting experience. I learned it the hard way but maybe others won't have to through videos like yours. Thanks and I dropped a like 👍

    Good stuff. I'd like to also make a suggestion for people interested in running the OCL Polonium K with shorter guns. I have ran mine on an 11.5 and 12.5 and even with well gassed barrels(Criterion and Geissele specifically) I have not had much benefit in using H2/H3 buffers alone. However, with the addition of a Bootleg adjustable bcg I can tune the guns perfectly and it has the added benefit of completely deleting recoil almost entirely. Like, I've never tried anything that has as much effect as this bolt carrier other than absurdly loud gamer brakes, the bootleg adjustable bcg works great. It's easy to adjust, more often than not I just use a Holosun tool's little flat head side, it can be adjusted on the fly without disassembly and the construction itself is robust and its made of strong materials with good coatings. There are other options like E-Z tune gas tubes and adjustable gas blocks but I prefer the bootleg adjustable bcg. Eventually I'd like to get a low flow can like a Huxwrx or the new B&T or something like that. I tried the Super 42+H2/H3(although I did the rifle length variant because I use A5 buffers on my short guns) and the effect really didn't tame the gas enough. Bootleg adjustable bcg is awesome for this. For my 14.5 BCM a Super 42+H2 worked perfectly because its got a midlength gas system. I have some videos on my channel if you'd like to see it in action. I'm curious if anyone has tried the Griffin HRT 5.56 or Duel Lok 5, both of those are advertised as having "eco flow" baffles which are supposed to help reduce back pressure and I'm curious if it works.
