The "sick" pose got me.. my lovebird was doing that for many months (he seemed perfectly fine until one day when he just passed all of a sudden). And all along I thought he was just being relaxed and was enjoying the view outside. If only Internet existed back then I would have kept myself well informed about the behavior of lovebirds. Thanks for making this video, its very informative. Lovebirds are really affectionate and playful. Mine liked to lick my fingers for almost an hour each time he flies down to find me (made sure my finger was clean too). Now there's no denying that I want a few lovebirds when I'm much older

My first female Budgie, the second Budgie I owned as a child, got quite sick after a rather cold and damp winter. I spotted her regularly resting in the bottom corner of the cage, disheveled and sniffling. She hung on for months as we tried to treat her with the medicine we were given by the vet, but she eventually passed one night as she slept. She was quite a shy bird, always avoided human contact and never made a sound unless her male companion was annoying her too much. I could never fathom why people disrespect animals so much, especially birds.

Sick pose is universal I think. I had my older rat pass away in my hands today. She just had that look when I went in for afternoon snacks, so I held her and she just went there in my hands. So I'm here looking for comfort in the sweet babies of others. My parakeet Rico is talking his face off while I watch this, I'm getting a lovebird for my birthday/wedding anniversary this summer, so I'm sad but excited at the same time here.

I feel rather guilty because my mother decided that I should receive two female budgies, without having foretold me. So I was in a state where I had no real knowledge behind properly caring for the two and I fear that I may have done something wrong. Oh well, I still love them and they appear to be somewhat happy, I just wish I'd watched a few KZread tutorials with how to actually keep and care for them.

When we had budgies, our dad wouldn't let us take them out of their cage, so they spent their whole lives in that little space. I've felt guilty about it for a long time, but judging by this video, they still had some happiness, because they'd chitter away for hours. :) Good to know

I used to have a parakeet, but she died when I was 14 :( This video was so cute and made me remember how I observed my parrot back then, and noticed these behaviours. Now, after a long time I wish to have a parrot again, maybe another parakeet or a cockatiel, but I constantly worry that I won't have enough time to take care of it! I miss the cuddling and scratching it's head, while she was sitting on my hand or shoulder~

My brother had budgies for quite some time. His male was very... hmmm... "enthusiastic".... towards the females. I always knew if he was in one of his excited moods because he'd bob up and down, make the loud screeching noises and try to preen the female perhaps a little too aggressively. :P he'd also do this habitual beak-rubbing on a nearby branch, it almost looked like he was trying to polish it. Have you seen this behaviour before? It was rather entertaining though- he was always far more successful with the ladies if he was in a more relaxed state. They didn't care for his rambunctiousness!

@Fox Gamer_FG They usually only raise their wings for a second or so when they're stretching, and I actually mentioned the cooling in my comment as a thing to rule out; _yes,_ they raise their wings when they're too warm, _but_ it's most likely discomfort _if_ they have no reason to cool off. Also, I just noticed I missed an "if" in my comment. Maybe that confused you?

Thank you. I just wanted to leave a comment of appreciation. It seems your budgies and lovebird are of a similar size, so they get along with each other. I have ten budgies and one conure. They do not fight, but the budgies are starting to take over the conure’s territory. I play more with the conure because she is alone. The budgies like to deal with each other. They are a flock. Thanks again! It is reassuring to get confirmation of my interpretation of their behavior.

You produced an excellent video -- nicely paced, well-written commentary, and visually beautiful. I think you are probably a very good friend to your bird. Given the names of your birds-- Blåbær (Blueberry), Flink (Smart), etc., I wonder if you are Norwegian? When I was very young, we had a budgie who we taught to say "Grandma went to Norway," "Er du garne?" "Vær så snil," and "Skam paa deg!" Our family had a Swedish-American family friend who refused to believe that budgies could talk. Once when he was at our house, our budgie was out flying through the living room. The bird seemed to have taken a dislike to the man. He flew over to our friend and sat on his shoulder. He tried to whisk the bird away, so our budgie immediately perched on the arm of the chair our friend was sitting in and began scolding him with "Er du garne?" then more loudly "Er du GARNE?" and finished with several "Skam paa deg!"s. Our friend never again doubted a budgies intelligence.

Thanks, of course... I always like to make their life as best as possible, with natural branches, time to fly outside, things to explore... so they won't be bored inside their cage. And that is exactly what I try to show in my videos... so thanks for noticing that. People will have them anyway, and for what I see, it is not always in the optimal conditions, so it is good to give some information...

Hi hordy! do you have any tips for making that kind of surrounding? I would like to take my bird outside as well, but he'll escape. Also I'd like him to fly more freely around the house too but have the trouble with poop. :/

I agree to, I have two budgies and I am buying a leash for them which harnesses around their wings and belly and the lead clips onto the harness. I’m buying it so the budgies can enjoy some time outside as well

  • @hordygurdy

    @hordygurdy

    7 жыл бұрын

+Yoite that is exactly the best part about using a branch: your birds will only perch there and will therefore ONLY poop there! So if you put newspapers underneath you only need to throw them away afterwards with all the poops in them. 😉

Budgies and lovebirds have small poop, so it's easy to clean up with a tissue if you see them do it. Once dry, though, try a product called Poop Off. It cleans dried bird poop off of almost any surface.

Ooooh I have a new budgie ive had for 5 days...... judging by these emotions in the video. When I put my hand in his cage to get him used to it..... he often looks curious, relaxed or fearful, because of this im assumign its the way I move my hand that triggers the reactions. Does this sound logical to anyone else? This is my first bird and I want to make sure I dont mess this up.

  • @artathletes797

MoonLighttXx I've had mine for about 2 weeks and I've gotten him to perch on my finger but he is still a little scared. But my advice is leave him alone for about 1 week and just kind of look at him and talk to him, sometimes putting your hand in and outside of the cage to let him or her warm up to your hand so you can try to make him perch. After it is used to your hand when it's food is low, get seed in the palm of your hand and hold it very still by his perch or whatever it's on. If it backs up leave it alone or maybe try a few more times. After it's aten from your hand maybe 2 times take a pen, perch, stick, anything small that it can stand on and push it against it's feet or stomach lightly and say, "step up" and keep trying for a few days and after it's done it and gotten used to the phrase, use your finger! Keep trying and build your bond! I hope this was useful.
