Some say that he's deaf. Others say that he lost his ears in a girl fight. All we know is he's called the sound director!
Some say that the audio editor is deaf.

All we know is he really has no idea whats what.
This has to be a re-upload. I've seen this a bunch of times, and the sound balancing was never this bad.

Indeed. "All Along the Watchtower" originally played as they leave Marlborough. This clip eliminates most of the original music and the editing was not done well. Curiously, "Stuck In The Middle With You" is from the original airing. Probably why that clip still sounds good.

Funnily enough this was actually the original upload, look at the description of the video - the reupload was 2 years later, and they really really should have privated this video with the abysmal audio
why is music so loud

+Kvadratukas - No. The TV episode wasn't like this. Also, read the description.
"come on little ferrari, be frugal, just sip" that made my day
"I hoped to end this night in a different sort of hedge." xD made my day
This truly is a great show. The fact that they also put all their shows on KZread is WIN. I have an incredible amount of respect for the originality, the humor, and the passion with which these guys go about testing cars of all types. Puts to shame all other car shows by leaps and bounds. Great stuff gents ... keep it up!

It's all over now. :(
Its so funny seeing Jeremy's face when he's on the receiving end Hammond's smugness!! Classic
You evil man that's brilliant!!!

Hahahahaha
Unaccurate fuel meters are common to most (Italian) cars. When my car (an Alfa) is going uphill the tank is almost empty (in fact more than half), going downhill it's more than full. The same with corners as Richard mentioned.
"I'm running out of fuel, I can't carry extra weight" lmao
"The Stig" is the sound editor!
This, the amphibious cars and the races accross Europe (supercar vs public transport) must be my favourite bits of top gear. And the news also
"You Evil Man!!! That's Brilliant, That's Genius" I Love how Clarkson always screws the others over.
James May laughing is just so entertaining
4:03 It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia music. lol.
"You evil man!, that's brilliant!, that's genius!"
When James laughs at the end of the second minute he looks so funny! :D
I love how Clarkson gets all upset at James when they joke about the engine breaking and it was Jeremy giving him all the grief for his car breaking lol.
3:54 DONT OVERTAKE YOU FOOL!!!😂😂
Some say that the people down in the comments never knew that there is a re-uploaded video with corrected sound, with the link in the description. And they've come up with an excuse of the sound editor being deaf
how could he not realize that HE DOESNT HAVE ENOUGH OIL IN THE ENGINE?!?!?!?! LMAO!!!! that was the funniest part to me lol.
incredible show, excellent hosts, keep it up lads...
"I must say I was hoping to end the evening in a rather different sort of hedge but there we are..." Jeremy
2:43 the definition of hilarious
This episode is easily one of my all time fav's.
and thank you for actually looking into it. great show keep up the good work
Some say that James is still trying to park his Lambo to this very day.
2:41 for a great laugh hahah
Thank you TopGear for putting these up in parts.
Hammond's face at 4:22 is priceless
To be fair most cars, European, American and Japanese were kinda crap in the late 70's. American Cars were ugly and slow, European cars were rusty, electrical failure ridden death traps in a shiny wrapper and Japanese cars were made mostly out of reclaimed steel (which unless you lived in the desert meant they were too rusted to pieces).

Agreed. Supercars in 80's and 90's are far better, but 10k dollars, pounds, etc. is usually not an asking price for those vehicles haha

There was Volvo.
Those are beautiful cars though.
No, I experienced it too! Made it difficult to hear some of the dialogue, but all in all a great piece!
"Well I must say I was hoping to end the evening in a rather different sort of hedge but there we are..." Epic Epic Epic.
Jeremy's last line should have been: "Yes, you can buy a supercar for less than 10,000, but for the love of God, don't DRIVE it!" lol
Well, james did technically won as he got the furthest.
I love this show and the dynamics between those guys. It's like me and my friends; mix of love, hate, rivalry and constant pranks made to each other. :)
I love TopGear. Watch it every monday (when its on anyway)
I love how part 4 is out WAY before everything else
"you evil man! thats brilliant!" hahaha
a great piece of top gear :D
Series 7, episode 4. I saw this when my dad turned it on and I loved this episode!!
Jeremy´s face when they leave him on the curve... priceless!
Superb tunes on this!
00:00:53 Jeremy Clarkson: *Go!* Richard Hammond: *Touch.* James May: *Oh c*ck!*
i watch this challenge every year now. Its become a tradition
YES! Thanks for actually taking in what vewiers say.
Pretty nice music choice for the parallel parking challenge lol
LOL Absolutely Fantastic!
That parking maneuver at 1st is part of the practical driving test in Puerto Rico. And BTW, they'e bad as hell lol
Pavarotti at the scene was priceless! LOL People can say anything of italian cars. Its true they break alot, its true they will never last as japanese-south korean cars do; but.... GOD they give the driver such a pleasure while driving that its like.... no problem they break. While they work(even if it's for a little period) they're awesome and superb automobiles! I LOVE TOP GEAR! Those guys are unpayable
Hammond's face at 4:23, priceless.
I love how on 2:27 Jeremy tried to give the engine some rpm by changing gear ;d
I love the theatrical leaving of the friends moments.
4:33 Mission Impossible bike & Mission Impossible music :D EPIC!!!
The car James hits trying to park was actually owned by the production crew. They knew something like this was likely to happen so made sure that they didn't hit actually members of the publics cars!
I've seen another version of this challenge (probably taken from a DVD) and there were no problems with speech volume level.
If anyone was wondering the first song is Steelers Wheel - Stuck in the Middle With You
ROFLMAO at 2:47 the hand written 'E' was pure brilliance!
hahaha, 'I got a big blue hole in the side of my engine' Just brilliant
I was wondering why i cant hear some of the commentary. O well, im glad top gear is on youtube for all of us to watch anyway.
SIp Ferrari, sip. that was hillarious lol.
To everyone complaining about the quality of the sound editing on these clips, I think what you're hearing here is the consequence of a mistake made when they were digitised for KZread from the original tape. The master tape would have had 2 separate stereo soundtracks on it: the main TX mix on tracks 1 and 2, and the mix-minus-voiceover on 3 and 4. Combine these by accident and the result is that everything except the V/O is far too loud. It's not just the music.
james may's laughter is the funniest!
Was really rooting for that Lambo, but its all for the best,...no fun going to a nudy bar alone anyhow. Damn I miss these guys! ,...and the Rhino too, haven't been to one in ages 😘
this until season ~11 was just flipping brilliant
Great consumer advice! :-D
The Jok-e- on jeremy's license plate got me
I like the sound editor..... He makes me feel better about myself
This and the porsche challenge was peak top gear.
Depends on the timing. Someone could have just leaned out the fueling. They didn't give any details about a carburetor or fuel injection, timing, fueling, etc. I'm not yet interested enough to look into it, but I'm going to stick with "proper tune-up" and be sad that they could have saved the engine from knocking itself to death.
That was funny, and something my friends wouldn't have hesitated to do to me.
LMAO @ "a different kind of hedge". Ah, that's good comedy.
I was rooting for the underdog Lamborghini the whole time! Lol
The Merak uses the brakes from a Citroen, which I believe used a combined hydraulic system, with brakes, suspension etc. I'm not exactly sure, but that seems like it would be why.
@leedaocheng I agree. Before his engine began to disintegrate it actually made a brilliant noise.
3:34 is awesome! two wheels baby! haha
It's not illegal because TopGear is putting their content on their channel.
This is the sound editors revenge for crushing the Morris Marina (little known fact the sound editor is a part of the Morris Marina owners club).
Good videos as always, Top Gear is great... but, i do think the editing on these 4 videos (the audio editing, moslty volume level) was poor.
Thats awesome james yay
That Urracco is my favorite!
2:25.....that's a GREAT noise :P *Griiiiiiiind....Crunch.....clunk...*
"You evil man !" All of that James-bugging has go to be set-up.
James may has the most epic laugh ever in the world.
well they have to make the show more mainstream to attract the viewer numbers to keep the show alive so its a decent attempt
A 10K super car's driving experience: "i don't mean if it gets worse, i mean if it goes completely"
In clarksons car they got the timing wrong or maybe the races and challenges wore the timing belt and stretched it causing it's tension to become incorrect. Well that's what I think caused it because that sound didn't sound like the tappets it actually sounded like the pistons smacking up against something correct me if I'm wrong.
who ever re-mixed the audio kinda goofed it up and it's a bit hard to hear the dialogue at times. Still a great challenge! 2 thumbs up
Surely, TG will have gotten an award for that episode, haven't they???
i was thinking just that, in all the new videos from this channel the audio is bad, maybe the do it on purpouse so you have to buy the dvd =)
Erm, just a small technical point, your engine didn't cut out, it disintegrated hahaha
I think the sound is due to the stereo to mono coversion. Try &fmt=18 at the end of the url, that seems to help.
hammond's look when the ferrari remains out of gas, is PRICELESS !!!! WORTH A MILLION.
Some say Stig is audio editor for this episode. Unfortunately his racing helmet blocks off external noise
That is their best unanimous defeat ever.
Top Gear is great.
I could hear it :P i am using headphones you see... it actually makes it better!!
