BUDGET DEIONIZATION FOR MY WASH SETUP | SPOTLESS RINSE

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I have been researching budget friendly deionization for a long time and finally found something I think will work well. A little over a hundred dollars gets you the same 0 PPM water of the more expensive ones. Enjoy the video and as always the bloopers at the end.

    Hey there, thanks for posting this video... I've been looking into a budget type system to use and I think this is a great option. One question I had is do you know how much resin the canisters take to refill. If I bought a 10lb bag of resin, how many times do you think the canisters could be refilled if you have a rough estimate? thanks again for the video... very informative

  • @CarsWithKeav

    @CarsWithKeav

    2 жыл бұрын

    Each canister takes about a pound of this color change resin. So if running both about 5 times. Some other resins weigh more and fill up the canister quicker. I would go with 1 lb per canister as an average.

    Max flo is 2.5 pm based on their soecs, but I can’t say for sure pushing through at 2 gpm the resin would have time to fully de-inonize if the water quality was not good.

    Definitely going to be getting down on this. I can't really justify the cost of the CR Spotless setup but this looks like a killer bang for the buck solution. BTW, I just picked up a new Marina Bay Blue Metallic X3M Competition from the guys over at United BMW in Alpharetta this weekend. Super low miles and the previous owner had it ceramic coated last year and took very good care of it. It's my first BMW and so far I'm loving it. I just finished a Tesla Model 3 performance 3 year lease so it's good to be back in something making some awesome noises and something that excites me when I drive it. The Tesla was fast but that's about all it had going for it.

    That’s awesome on the purchase. Have lots of friends with X3M and they all love them. Test your water first to make sure you won’t be changing the filters constantly since the capacity is so small compared to a cr spotless.

    Great setup. I had one question that I’m confused on. At the beginning you give the fittings that you use on the exit side of DI system. I have the aquatic life setup and on mine the exit side came with the fitting for a garden hose but noticed a plastic piece inside it that I think reduces water flow. Do I still need to use this or would it be ok without and go with your setup? Please help and thanks

  • @CarsWithKeav

    @CarsWithKeav

    Жыл бұрын

    That reducer is there because the aquatic life can’t flow as much water as the Max Water system I use. You could remove it I think, but unsure if it will fully filter before the water exits. It might work though, need a ppm meter to measure and make sure it’s 0ppm.

    This all depends on the water quality going in. My water is pretty good at 60ppm so it lasts around 200 gallons. Which is most of the washing season. If you have bad water say 300ppm it would be less than 100 gallons most likely. I couldn’t say exactly.

    Would you suggest this size for a mobile detailer or personal use? How often would you have to change out the resin?

  • @CarsWithKeav

    @CarsWithKeav

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hardest to know is how long it will last. That will all depend how much flow you have going through it and the quality of the water going in. I have very low TDS water from the house at like 60 TDS and washed twice a week and it lasted 6 months. Works great for personal use. If I myself was running a mobile detailing van I would have a big water tank in the van and would rent DI tanks from a service and fill the tank in the van with it. Using the DI water for the whole wash process due to most likely washing in the sun.

  • @CarsWithKeav

    @CarsWithKeav

    Pre-filter shows close to 4 GPM. It’s a whole house unit so must keep up with the needs of a home. Resin needs more time to filter so it’s around 2 GPM.

    Just came across your video. Excellent content and set up. I'm thinking of adding solar panel cleaning to my pressure washer service. I'm in San Antonio, Texas and we have some of the hardest water in the nation. Research is showing to use deionized water for cleaning. Would these filters work in your opinion?

  • @CarsWithKeav

    @CarsWithKeav

    Жыл бұрын

    They would, but depends on the ppm of the water you are using. These small filters will get worn out quickly with higher ppm. This is what many windows guys use and would assume the same process for solar panel except the panels are not as scratch resistant as glass. I would suggest a CR Spotless or one of the other big 20 inch filter housing which would get you way more gallons and not have to change so often. For sure would need a 2 stage before the DI filter to help break down the solids as the resin is much more expensive. A couple of 1 micron carbon filters would help.

    They can, but the effectiveness and longevity of the resin will be compromised. It will work way better vertical as it makes the water travel equally through the resin.

    Just quick disconnect swaps no adjustments needed. Water going into the unit has a QD that I disconnect and goes to the Deionization then the QD for the Hose reel is taken out and connected to the QD from the deionization. Thats it.

    You always pay more for more capacity. I ended up getting the $400 one because it gave me enough flow to run my Active 2.0 with it. The poorer you water quality the more often you change refills. Some places you might get just a few washes out of this small one.

  • @CarsWithKeav

    @CarsWithKeav

    It will work, but if your water is heavy it will degrade the resin and not last long as long as softer water. Adding a two stage pre-filter might help using cloth and carbon filters to help with sediment and help make the resin last longer.

    For the DI rinse I use the hose and a nozzle that has a good stream. Pressure washer is not on just water running through it. If you want to run with a pressure washer beat to go with a CR Spotless. You could run a Ryobi or a lower flow unit like that, but anything over 1.5 gpm I think this filter system would struggle.

    @@chrisw.7039 To be honest to flow 2gpm through the whole process consistently it needs to be a bigger system. This unit with good tap water might get 100 gallons. You would use probably 15 to 20 gallons during a wash. Going spotless water can get expensive with the resin. I personally think the tank style is the best way to go. I just bought the Griots one which can run 4gpm and do 10x the amount of water as this little one. It also has a built in bypass all for $299 which I think is a great deal. You have to remove them fully. A TDS meter is a cheap $10 or so device you can use to check your total desolved solids or TDS. Anything over 0ppm can leave spots.

The system is rated for 2.5 gpm so enough to run a pressure washer just can’t say for sure at a higher flow rate the resin might not de-ionize fully. Reducing size does not increase pressure, it decreases pressure due to more flow restriction

    If you flow the same amount of water from the source pressure will always increase when you reduce the size it goes through. For centuries this is how the hydraulic mining is done by taking a big creek and slowly decreasing the area and forcing it through a pipe that gets smaller and smaller creating a pressure stream enough to tear down mountains. Same goes for pressure washer nozzle you increase size the pressure decreases and allows more water flow. Exact opposite when you decrease size PSI increases and water flow decreases. Smaller size decreases water flow (GPM), but increase pressure (PSI).
