BUDGET BUILDOUT (w/ Links) - $2,500 4Runner "Micro RV" Conversion - Solo Female Touring The West

LINKS FOR ALL PRODUCTS DISCUSSED IN THIS VIDEO ARE LISTED BELOW...
Hey Everyone! This is my friend Donya who is living out of her 4Runner while diving head first into Nomad Life. I absolutely love the functionality of her self designed buildout - it's simple, effective, does't break the bank, and offers Donya & Priya (her furry adventure parter) plenty of space to enjoy their travels in the American West. Donya has been able to do all of these upgrades to her truck investing around $2,500 for everything you see in this video. Hope you all enjoy this great budget buildout, if you have any questions then please be sure to leave them in the comment section below. Thanks for watching!

Definition of "Off-Grid": Off-the-grid or off-grid is a characteristic of buildings and a lifestyle designed in an independent manner without reliance on one or more public utilities. The term "off-the-grid" traditionally refers to not being connected to the electrical grid, but can also include other utilities like water, gas, and sewer systems, and can scale from residential homes to small communities.

She's so sweet! I love her safety tips. They're something people, nomadic or not, should do more especially in the world of online dating and ride sharing! It's not about being old enough to not need to check in, it's about respecting yourself and others enough to take 2 mins to show you're ok and prevent their worry! I may have clicked the link for the lights first 😁😬

@@Donya_and_Priya Thank you Donya we couldn't agree with you more. Nothing like getting off grid and doing remote camping. To get away from the day in day out rat race. Nothing couldn't be better then being out of the office camping 🏕 = 🙂. The extras drawer slide under the stove was a nice touch giving added usable prep space. The security tips for friends and pass words was another great suggestion. Not to mention the InReach Garmon. We just enjoy seeing real builds by folks who want to be smart about there budget. Us it first then change as needed. Not the typical mall crawlers with epic epic epic builds just to get social media "LIKES". Keep on rockin it. Sonya, you are a soul sister! I have a 2015 4Runner with a 5x10 cargo trailer conversion (wanted a place to stand up). I started camping out of my 4Runner years ago and pre-kid lived out of my vehicles when I changed jobs but when Covid hit I decided after all the stress and once the kids graduate HS I am going full nomad. I'm loving the hot water tank idea- I'm stealing it! Still thinking about the 3in lift for mine...probably before I buy my next set of tires (which would be 6 tires and new hubs or axle for trailer). Very Nice! Seems so free and unencumbered. Good luck to you. It seems that the fifth generation 4Runner is a popular choice for this brand of camping. I’ve seen lots of different individual versions of the sleeping platform in the sliding drawers. Do you happen to know if there are companies that pre-fabricate the bed platform and slide out drawers? Having seen so many of these fifth generation, 4Runner campers, you would think that some company would have established a complete solution that you can buy off the shelf, so to speak. Thank you again.

Hi Marc! I am 5’ 5” and I can fully stretch out on my sleeping platform and not touch the tailgate. I think if you either remove the front passenger seat or if you don’t want to do that you could slide it up as far as it will go then you’ll have plenty of room to sleep in the back. Just depends on what your sleeping system ends up being.

Hey Danial, I would have to disagree with needing to upgrade the axles. Donya doesn't have thousands of extra pounds to where it would stress the axles. A simple suspension upgrade would be sufficient and much more cost effective. Thanks for tuning in!

What were those little blue-white material scraps above the doors/windows? To keep out dust?

Ohhh! I’m so glad you asked.. I actually forgot to talk about them in the video. I had a friend make them.. they are thick screen mesh material that slide over the windows to keep the bugs out. I need air flow so I keep my windows down (or lowered) when I’m sleeping and it keeps the bugs out.

How do you hook up the hot water on demand for an outside shower when camping?

I have it mounted on some wood that I can pull outside to another location if I wanted, otherwise it just stays where it is, the tubes are lengthy and can reach a ways from my truck. It's such a great add to my rig!

Hi Wole!! aka "swole"! As you can see in the video I have my own setup for a shower, however you can always hit a shower at 24 fitness, or like a Love's / Travel Stop. Those showers are around $7 I believe and are nice and clean.

Hi! The potty is in the great outdoors...digging a cat hole at least 6" deep and not near a water source is how that works. And my sweet Priya eats fresh food so I keep it in the fridge.

Hi Sandra! I use the Camplux Tankless Water Heater. I have it hooked up to a small water pump which required a tiny bit of electrical and it's connected to my huge red inverter (I pointed out the little switch on the back of it that I flip on when I want to use it and voila...water pressure!). It's so lightweight and all you have to do is put a few size D batteries in it, hook it up to the propane, hook up to water and turn the switch! It's portable and can be used anywhere. Another tip, I purchased several of those interlocking gym padding type squares to stand on while I shower.

@@sandraschneider8438 After watching literally 100's of youtube videos, I designed the simplest system as a beginning. I would just watch the videos and figure out which one works for you...then my next door neighbor at the time who had all the tools and knowledge guided me through the process. Next time for any adjustments and rebuilds I know I could do it on my own. And we learn just by researching, asking questions, and doing it!
