    For my room and listening needs I went with the floor standing version of the R200, the R600’s driven by Pioneer’s new 305 AVR and I love the combination. The 600’s dig deeper into the bass but I augment that with a Starke Sound SW12 using a 50HZ crossover and it’s a match made in heaven. It may not be my end game system but it hits it out of the park as a combined HT / 2 Channel package. Randy and a couple other reviewers gave me the direction I needed to arrive on this setup and I’m really glad I found their channels. 👍👍

    Tried both, like both....R200 by a twidge for my room and my ears, but those are the big variables ; ) R200 seems especially happy with a vintage Marantz 2275. I was fortunate to find them on sale (great point Randy makes: why pay more, even if they are a good value at the regular price, they definitely go on sale). Great comparison and review...and thanks for bringing Polk back to our attention: I (and I suspect some others here?) had pretty much written them off as serious contenders years ago. Looks like the Polksters are back!

    Loved the video, Randy. What it has done has made me indecisive. I liked what you said about the R100's, all except for one thing, and that was soundstage depth. Is it virtually absent would you say, or just less than the R200? I might be able to live with less depth, but couldn't abide a flat soundstage, however wide.

    I'm actually watching this video using the R200s right now for sound with my Marantz NR1200 AV Receiver. They are great hell yeah You got me wanting to try the R100s now. Might be the next pair of speakers I get not sure. I'm kinda new to the home theater/stereo audio hobby. Been listening to music and watching movies all my life. I love music and movies but never had good quality speakers until the last couple of years. i started out a couple of years ago with the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 system and moved to what I currently am using ie the R200s along with the PSW10 sub woofer. Before that it was just tv speakrs, phone speakers, and 20 to 30 dollar computer speakers from brands like logitec. and one time a 25 dollar portable boombox I got from target that i broke in a year blasting all the time hahaha. I'd have to say the R200s are night and day difference from the klipsch 2.1 promedia system. WAY better but I'm still just learning and gettin the hang of home theater and stereo systems but I think I got a pretty good one for now. I agree with what you say about the r200s. But I can't really seem to find any one trying the R200s with the Marantz nr1200 to see what they think. I think it's a great built/system. What do you think of the NR1200. I found a really good home theater store near me and they helped me get a good system, the one I'm currently using. Glad to of found you on KZread. Keep making more home theater speaker videos dude you rock. I paid 650 for my R200s 600 for my NR 1200 receiver and 300 for the sub woofer.

    I have thrown the ring into the hat. As Elac UB 52 or 62 are not available, I went with R200. Buying a good pair of socks, as i have to keep them close to the wall. I would have preferred texture, tone of bass than thump. But this is what best I can get right now. Once burn in,i hope to hear some magic. Fingers crossed...as out of the box, these did not sound as good. Trying stereo, as my 16+ years old Onkyo 5.1 gave up due to age. I enjoyed that all these years, it had the quality as money had value back then. The Onkyo was very good even for music. I feel Stereo is like manual gear box trying to beat DSG. DSP based systems do have dustinct advantage hard to beat for traditional stereos.

    Which one to choose when pairing with an Esoteric class D Amp (110W at 8 Ohms) that's a bit analytical?

  • @nc3419
    @nc34192 жыл бұрын

    For years I combined Paradigm with Polk speakers. Paradigm 7se with Polk Monitor 5 I believe stacked. Later, Paradigm Monitor 3 with Polk 5 jr. Later Paradigm SE1 with Monitor Audio RX1s. Each combination complemented each other, Earlier Paradigms provided the low to low mids and the Polks added upper mids to highs. SE1s had the mids while RX1s (these were too laid back on mids) provided the lows and highs. What ended this coupling of speakers were Focal 807Ws. Adding a sub would adds some additional bass richness but they are fine on their own and easy to drive even with a 40 watt high quality amp. They do not like inexpensive class D though. Much better with class AB and superb with a quality amp. Looking for an even smaller speaker that can do what they do. Not easy and the closest I've come is MA Silver 100 6g. The 100s had really nice lows and low mids but they were still outclassed by Focal in the upper mids through the highs. Silver 100s just threw everything at you, lacked the subtlety of Focal. But if you were mostly home theater oriented, the Silver 100s gave you a big sounding experience. A much wider and a taller soundstage with a bit less depth in comparison. Focal good enough for that and better for music. Still looking for something in the 12 to 15 inch, probably have to spend more to beat it but might need a higher powered amp as well. MAs played well with a 40 watt amp too, which was nice. Perhaps the 7g edition which is said to have better dispersion by adding a wave guide under the tweeter grill as well as an updated mid driver.

    Bought the R200 just a few weeks back after Randy's post on the BB sale. They sound fantastic with my SX-1050 (warmer amp) currently but will be paired with a CR-1020 which some would call "bass thin" (I disagree) and a little bright. This pairing is perfect as it adds back just a little warmth to balance out the CR-1020 and in my 12x12 office, the bass is booming (in a good way). My only gripe is the two pairs I received were both damaged... The first pair had a tweeter where the spike was smooshed. The second has some cabinet damage the size of my thumb, like it was pushed in. Not sure if QC is lacking here but definitely annoying. I'm keeping the second pair cause it's not bad or impacting the sound quality.

    @@mattyj3051 I think it comes down to speaker pairing and synergy. I was using Evo 4.3s which are warm with the Pioneer which is also warm. The sound is great but swap in the R200’s and there’s a lot more weight in the sound and more detail. Comparing the Yamaha’a phono stage to the Pioneer’s is night and day. Yamaha is crystal clear and both are in spec.

Should I get the R100 to have a little more breathing space between wall and speaker, or should i get the R200 but it will be backed up super close to the wall? Thanks

While the kefs have their strengths like how good vocals sound and how spacious they are, the polks are more focused, a bit more clarity and a lot more bass, much bigger sense of scale. The polks on the other hand just gives you a bigger sound all around. It seemed more airy to me up top and warmer giving a full sense of body. Vocals are clear just slightly less pronounced than the kefs but with more weight to them. They even have a bit more highs than the kef, is just the kef detail is slightly more pronounced.

    i just listened to a review sound tests between the polk r200 vs elac uni-fi ub52 and i must say i prefer the polks...the bass is way better imo...while the mids and highs are more pronounced on the elacs. however the elacs are $350 off atm for 549 from 899.... i cant find the R200 on crutchfield or amazon...so i doubt the polk es 20 match up to the R200 right? I think i like polk better...plus they might have a longer history than elac ....there is something to be said about experience and 5 decades in the field im sure....but then there are Klipsch at 75yrs i think? but i havent heard a polk vs klipsch just yet...ive just started my studies on which to buy!....again knowledgeable input is appreciated as help for my dilemma....i hate this process...i tend to keep what i buy forever so...i NEED to make it right the first time lol...thanks to anyone able to give usable info to me! peace !!! k i just used your link for the R200 and they are 750 no discounts. the elacs were 899 minus 350 discount...so for an extra 200+ i might wait and see IF they ever give customers a fair deal! i would buy the R200s right away at 500-550$

    I recently purchased the 200's. Almost from Crutch but then I saw that if you didn't mind them in black BB had them for $75 less. $557 I believe. Phenomenal speakers. Very neutral and real sounding, no resonance I can hear. Even the wife, who never pays attention to my music was like Wow. She came in the room and sat dead center about 8 feet away,on her own willingness, and was stuck there awhile. A 1st for her. When comparing these 2 models I preferred the 200 obviously. It just sounded fuller, especially with my vaulted ceilings, right side of room open concept, and the wall behind the speakers recessed a couple feet...tends to suck out the lower tones on most speakers. So the 200 had the goods I needed. High quality music sources shine thru the 200. You will know if a recording is not up to par. Can play it at obscene volumes with no break up. Can play it full range if wanted to, if you don't have or don't want a sub. Obviously a quality sub will enhance the overall experience. Other speakers can be fun, with their colored sound in one tone or another, this speaker is serious. You can really open it up with high volume. Obviously I love it, just my opinion though. I think if it didn't say Polk on it more people would try it and think the same. For the price it was a steal

    Bro the klipsch barely use power and you're hooking them up to amps with stupid amounts of power. Of course they sound the same because you're only using the first 1-4 watts. Distortion would set in later but it never does. Coincidentally both those amps don't have the cleanest and best first few watts. If you want an improvement find something with a high class a bias.

Comparing them to Totem Skylights which are same size as R100s, Skylights sounded much smaller than my Denton’s. ik you were more so referring to the excitement of your next speaker, but its interesting that the next level up from diamonds or d320s, at least a noticeable difference, is more so going to be paying more money for a "different" sound, and not necessarily a "better" sound. If your goal is flat response, accuracy of reproduction, low distortion/high spl, you have to go D.I.Y.. or pay a good 1-2 thousand. However, there are tons of low equipment req, easy to follow builds under 500 that will blow plenty of 1-2k brand name retails out of the fucking water.

    Hi Randy, I understand why you evaluate speakers without a subwoofer. After all the speakers don't come with one, but some of us prefer smaller speakers with a sub. Example the Triangle borea br02 speakers sound better as a satellite speaker than the borea br03's do to me. Keep up the good work evaluating speakers, just please consider adding a short evaluation of the smaller and larger versions with a subwoofer. I picked up the JBL 10in powered subwoofer on sale new for $200.00 and upgraded the 10in speaker itself properly paired it first with the Elac debut 2.0 6.2 and then the Triangle borea br02. Wow I love the sound even just playing cd's with a thirty year old dac and amplifier with a cheap Chinese preamp. I use an rca splitter out of the preamplifier to send the signal to the subwoofer crossover about 60hz and below on the subwoofer and run main speakers full spectrum. Thanks Bob
