I've seen these little campers rolling around for a while but have never had the opportunity to see one in person. They're smaller, simpler, and definitely made to keep the pricing in check as sometimes the interior decor elements don't always "blend" well with one another. But if you have a smaller vehicle and don't want to go neck-deep in debt to go camping. Then perhaps one of these little guys could work for you!

Perfect little limited use trailer. We got the 15fk model for my 5’3” wife and it is perfect to take up to our mountain lot for 2-3 day visits and she can handle it herself. We added 2 6volt batteries and a 100 watt solar. It’s the heaviest she can handle. It can take a while to find one of these but it fits our limited needs and budget. We don’t go that far and don’t load a lot of stuff in it. Nice review. Good to see you Josh.

I have a 15FK and let me tell you I couldn't love it more. I am a 6'2" 275lb guy and I fit fine. I can stand up in it, though to be honest it is a tight bathroom to go #2. My wife and I sleep with enough room on the dinete(SP?) bed that we don't lay the back down. The features have everything you could need or want aside from a larger blackwater tank. All of the features you could want and add to it the fact that it is easily off road capable and you could not ask for a better boondocker. I had covid early on and had it extremely bad with a lot of long term issues. I was an avid outdoorsman, hiking, camping fishing, kayaking, canoeing and more; afterward I cant do nearly as much; this put me back outside. Thank you Braxton Creek! EDIT: I am towing this with my 2020 Nissan Frontier PRO4X

Thank you for bringing up the comment of the GVWR and GAWR on some trailers. You are correct that in most of these situations the manufacturers expect the tongue weight to relieve the axles of an often significant portion of the GVWR. A serious and often overlooked issue is the often casual recommendation to use a weight distribution hitch, even on a single axle RV, without a thorough understanding of these numbers and how they work. This is particularly important on a single axle trailer, where a load leveling weight distribution system by design RE-distributes the tongue weight to BOTH the front axle of the tow vehicle AND the rear axle(s) of the trailer. And don't just think the weight redistribution automatically just stops at a trailer's tongue weight, an overly "aggressively" tightened weight distribution setup can easily place a significant portion of the tow vehicles weight on the trailer axle(s) as well. Hope this helps.

  • @tomckay1

Adding to this, all the storage including the spare tire are BEHIND the axle.... Major issue for weight distribution and novice campers that want to pack as much as they can in to the trailer.

Thanks for reviewing the Bushwhacker. Nice to see. On the plus side, I was impressed with the size of the bunks. They’re wider than I’ve seen on bigger, budget bunkhouses (I’m looking at you, R-Pod.) I wouldn’t mind some more windows, to feel less claustrophobic, like a tear drop. But I understand they’re building to a particular price point. I can see it working for 2-3 people for like a weekend or so.

I do wish Braxton Creek would offer a light colored wood for this camper as it would give it a much bigger interior feel. Also, a window over by the bunk area would work much better for airflow. I am going to look at it in person one of these days, but so far, I do like what I see. It' simple and straightforward for a newbie like me!

I agree. Josh tends to do that a lot on used trailers too. Going around pointing out all the warts. It's used. It has warts. I'm thinking people complained about him "misrepresenting" so he's trying to prove how honest he is. Josh, my homeboy ( I'm from MI), we know what we're looking at. We know it's not fancy. We know it's not a "full timer". If "we" don't, that's not your fault. A light weight weekend camper that's practically priced, is not going to give the wows. Maybe just a simple disclaimer at the beginning, "If you're looking for a party wagon or a towable house, this ain't for you."

One thing that manufacturers need to start making standard on trailers with bunks is to have a window in at least the top bunk. So much heat is retained there. It's a really nice small camper. Except for that GAWR - they should have just bumped it to a 3500lb axle for the few $$ difference. Safety is the one thing that should never be compromised.

I feel like there's a lot they can improve, but I like what they're attempting to do. A smaller fridge/freezer would allow the top to be an additional counter space to be flush with the sink and stove. The AC unit being top mounted would open up more interior space, or provide some cabinet space. Some windows in the bunk and dinette would also be nice.

Pretty well executed for the size. The lack of insane splash decals really appeals to me as well. Awning should be included. Is there more storage under the front bunk? I don't see an exterior cargo door up there. I can't imagine it's dead space. Thanks for touching on the axle weight thing. It blew my mind when we bought our wolfpack that they didn't leave any wiggle room and assumed the pin weight would never change. Being a toy hauler, and having access to scales, I can tell you that we are over axle, and at/under GVWR almost every trip. Luckily they give enough tire capacity.

What an interesting little cheep and cheap trailer, with a very reasonable price point. Nice to see when a lot of other lighter weight fully enclosed small trailers in this size range are going for $8,000 to $15,000 more. This is a unit you can use, abuse and not be to concerned about resale price or depreciation, because you started at such an affordable price in the first place. You can buy this one, use it for 2 to 5 years, sell it for $4,500 to $8,000 and still spend less money at the end of the day than many of the other more expensive brands of small trailers. Or maybe buy a used one of these at the all ready depreciated price and save even more money. I went and looked these guys up. And I saw an interesting 17FL model. Had a chair and bench in front. It was used, nice shape, and under $14,000. Probably even less if the dealer was willing to discount the price even a little more to get the sale. This is definitely a lower price point trailer. And in a good way. With sticker prices starting in the $15k range, you get a useable trailer that gets the job done. It has stand up room in it, a modest roof clearance, a small fridge, a 2 burner stove, a wall mount instead of roof mount AC unit, a small wet pooper/shower unit, and room to sleep 2 to 4 real people in it. It has an easy care exterior. The features you use, and no extras. Why pay for a tv/entertainment system? Almost everybody has a phone, tablet or notebook PC with superior features at an already paid for price, and is very easy to upgrade and take anywhere you go. Not covered with a lot of graphics, so it’s a little plain on the outside. It has a #3200 GVW, so it can realistically be towed by smaller compact and midsize tow vehicles. And while you pointed out the sewer pipes were a little low, you did not mention the torsion beam independent trailing arm axle. That gives the trailer a smother ride and better ground clearance vs a leaf spring solid axle unit. The tail lights are low mounted in the rear frame crossmember at the bottom of the trailer, which gives it a unique rear style to it. It comes with nice alloy wheels and traction tires. So light off roading (dirt and unimproved roads and campsite capable.) About the only factory change I would make are side windows in the front. It’s a little dark, claustrophobic and cave like in the front. Adding some reflective, colorful stripes to the sides would flash up the looks quite a bit and personalize the trailer to your taste. Some colorful blankets, floor covers and pillows on the inside would really cheer up the interior. For just a few hundred bucks for graphics, you could turn this into a neat looking retro/canned ham trailer. And it’s new, not rotted, worn out and rusty. Plus it comes a warranty. I see why these are flying off the lots as fast as they come in.

@@JoshtheRVNerd I think it could be beneficial. You could do the review on the primary unit, then do quick out takes on the other units to show the different configurations available. Or if there are different colors and trims. Thus potential customers might see something that grabs their attention in the other unit not present in the primary unit. Sometimes something we may not notice or think is important becomes the killer application or feature that presents the trigger for the customer that goes “I want that one”.

I also love cruise ships and am fine with the less than full size bath in most staterooms. I'm just not flexible enough any more for potty to shower slither. My wife and I are 5'8", so the low roof head-bumper isn't problem. I do like the openness of the bunks, with the open space to the living area. This camper is actually better then I thought it would be, but it is obvious that the price and the light weight seem to be the primary selling factors here. If someone is currently traveling with a tent and wants to upgrade to a trailer and not have to buy a new tow vehicle, this unit may be an answer. If it were me, I think I would lose the air conditioner altogether. Most of the places and times that I camp I just wouldn't use it, but I would use the additional storage space in the kitchen a lot more. I am also not a fan of having my primary exterior storage in the back of the trailer. The more you fill it up, the lighter the tongue weight becomes on the trailer, possibly causing you trailer sway problems. Overall, not a bad unit for a basecamp.

I appreciate that you do in-depth reviews of such a wide variety of RVs. From super nice 5th wheels down to these little fellows and all in between. Another RV review channel that I used to watch a lot has gone pretty much all "high end" and mostly does $200k and $2 million RVs. While those are cool to watch I don't know many people in the market for a $200k Class C. I rarely watch his videos now. Keep up the good work. Not all trailers are perfect for every customer.
