Bob Kaye I really appreciate all of your many Buddy Rich posts, a most invaluable part of jazz history. I have a question concerning your chart Grand Concourse. On some performances of the chart the band decided to excise the up tempo funk section which I always thought was a nice contrast to the minor mode swing. Here it is nice to hear it intact. Was this in the interest of time allowed for the particular gig or was it a work in progress? Just curious.

m hampton I wrote the chart with the rock section. The whole time I was with the band (most of 1978), it was played that way. Some time after I left that part was cut out, probably Buddy wanted to keep the original groove throughout.
