I was in a 9-piece horn band that was doing Chicago, Edgar Winter, and several of Buddy's tunes - this, Changes, We Got to Live Together, and Take it Off Him, and several of us saw this band at Seton Hall University in April of 71. They were so freaking excellent - tight, funky, driving tunes played with great musicianship. These clips are a great testament as to just how good this band was live. I was a fan of the bassist Bobby Hull, who played with a rock style but with excellent articulation and a nice even tone that added great groove. S'Alright !

David Hull for as young as he was here. Think he was like 17 or 18 just killed. His ear was incredible to harmonize some of the missing horn parts. Especially when he did take it off him like he threw in the trombone part a few times just a bad ass in general played with Aerosmith a few times filling in pretty sure they all grew up together

Buddy Miles and the Buddy Miles Express were among the best live acts I have ever experienced...... the album Buddy Miles Live ranks among my top 5 live albums ever..... If you can find this precious double-vinyl set, buy it no matter the cost. You will thank me later, it is damned near the Perfect live album. I bought it just after it came out, and it gets played in this house at least once a month since. This performance is worthy of that.

These members are well known to Buddy Miles fans as appearing on the Electric Church LP as the Buddy Miles Express. After Buddy went solo for his "Them Changes" LP, the band made one further LP as the "Freedom Express." The Electric Church was produced by Jimi Hendrix. The famous Buddy Miles song "Them Changes" was written on the "Electric Church" sessions with guitarist Jim McCarty who appears in this video, but was not released until the "Hendrix Band of Gypsies" Live LP on Capital records. Jim played with the original Detroit Wheels group of Mitch Ryder and then with rock powerhouse, Cactus and later, The Rockets with Johnny "The BEE" from Mitch Ryder's Detroit Wheels on drums!

I attended a concert around this time. On the bill were PG&E, Buddy Miles Express, and the headliners were the dead. The venue was evacuated after PG&E's set by a bomb scare. The paying audience returned after the all clear. The ''groovy'' dead had already split town but Buddy hung in and played a long killer set wearing a NY Rangers road sweater. The dead had always been too ''hippy dippy'' IMO but after that evening I would cross the street to piss on them if they were on fire.
