Buddy is the realist. Most boxers would never admit that they got their ass beat.

Buddy is secure in the fact that he handled his business, in his day he was a B.A.M.
Who's here because they're a real Sweet Pete fan, and fan of the sport.

@@capncarter7395 yes him and Roy Jones were my childhood
I met Buddy Mcgirt at a bar called ringside in jersey city. We talked boxing history and I kept saying you look familiar. After about 1/2 an hour he wrote his name on a napkin and we cracked up because I told him things about his career thinking he was someone else. Great guy! I enjoyed chillin with him.

Buddy McGirt not only was a great fighter but a helluva trainer. He gave Tarver the blueprint to KO the great Roy Jones Jr. " Punch when he punch."💪💪👊

mookeychase0907 yea but calling average trainer n Fighter great is a little to much cause he never beat nobody of star status or trained anybody that was that dude.

My dude I said I was being generous, then I said he was "good" what you want me to say? Why you coming back saying the same thing like I insisted he was great. Yo you acting like I said he was the greatest. Yo he aint a great trainer he is a good trainer and a good teacher. He won trainer of the year back in like 2001. He was a two time world champ held down two belts for two years. He ducked nobody he beat Frankie Warren, who was a helluva fighter. He gave Sweetpea a good fight the first time,he was pound for pound at welterweight at one time. 73-48-6 he was a worthy champion and he did and still does some good things for the sport. Some things alotta fighters haven't and won't do. Yo man listen I'd rather over credit a good dude, a good fighter, a good teacher and trainer then to sh*t on him and downplay or deny his accomplishments. In totality his accomplishments make him a great asset to the sport as countless others have been. He did his part that is my opinion and I know some that agree...Ricardo Lopez El Finito, is one of the best fighters of all time 51-38-0 but people resort to his competition,to lessen his legacy. I am not one of those guys. Yo he beat who they put in front of him and aint no doubt in my mind he would have beat stiffer comp if they were there. Nevertheless he is still great and people that know boxing, those inside and outside the ring agree. The totality of a fighters legacy isn't always who he beat because who he fights isn't always up to him unless he purposely ducks fighters and champs. That doesn't apply to either of these guys. Now you got dudes calling GGG the greatest and put him on a level of Marvin Hagler and calling him better than James Toney and sh*t like that. If he retires today there will be many fighters and fights he left on the table so his legacy will be tarnished you can't say that about Buddy or Raul. Okay so what you think about GGG? If he left today or tomorrow what would his legacy be?
Much Respect to you Buddy McGirt, for keeping it real!!!
Mcgirt Whitaker was high speed chess. One of best examples of skill in a boxing match

Not as good as Toney/McCallum (either of their first two fights). That was world class high speed chess, right there. Go check it out. Best example of two equally matched elite fighters that I have ever seen. You won't be sorry you did. I had the great fortune of watching the fight while I was an amateur boxer in high school. Needless to say, I learned SO much from it.
i remember watching Buddy Mcgirt back in those early years , he was one of those old school solid boxers! A real prize fighter! The last of his kind! A true living legend! Way to go! Champ!

Dude was nice to watch good , balance and timing good defence solid puncher in his day
The way Buddy did hard hitting and underrated Simon Brown was one of the greatest displays of boxing in the 90's, and that's saying a whole lot.
Pernell will greatly be missed!! A true defensive Genius..
i didnt recognize him untill he took the hat off..that shape is unique..XD

My affectionate term for Buddy was "Peanut Head" whenever I'd be talking about him or his fights. And in no way did I mean it in a disrespectful way. Yeah, it's a unique shape.

I Love McGirt, He tells the Honest Truth about what really happened, & people like that are very good Honest Human Beings.
I love the honesty and his humbleness!
48 ko’s! I watched boxing in the 80s & 90s but I never paid attention to Buddy McGirt and he was a beast! I need to watch more of his fights. The only fight I remember was against Pernell Whitaker.
The man is a student of the game. That's the type of fighters I really like.Speaks straight from the heart and knows every aspect of his craft.
Always one of my favorite fighters, right on, Buddy!
James “Buddy” McGirt, one of my favourite boxers of that era. Old school, boxed anyone, boxed constantly, made no excuses when he lost and class personified when he won.
Great video Elie keep up the good work, Buddy always been a true guy. Great Memories. ✌🏾❤️✊🏾
Had the pleasure of meeting Buddy McGirt @the Wiz Department Electronic store in NYC right before the 1st sweet Pea fight. I tricked the staff into skipping the line. Nice Cat. Humble down to earth Gentleman Rock On Buddy
It's refreshing to watch such honesty from a man. Awesome!
I absolutely love Buddy McGirt, truly one of the most brilliant boxing minds. Pernell Whitaker well he is just awesome, a once in a lifetime talent.
Always loved Buddy
I grew up watching all these fights and it's great to be able to watch them now....one of the best times in boxing history.
Buddy my boy he is one of the greats hell of a trainer too
Buddy McGirt seems like such a chill dude. It would be cool to say hi to him.
Crazy to hear Buddy say this, he is one of the best defensive fighters in the history of boxing. That tells you how great Pernell Whitaker was.
This guy never saw Buddy fight!! He ASKED him if he was a lefty!🤦🏾♀️

Great interview
Am I the only one that is literally mesmerized by this interview.
Buddy is such a likeable person.
That was a good one .... Respect
Buddy has a sense of humor
Buddy is an OG
Very under appreciated champion.
I met buddy ay national p.a.l in Newark new jersy what hell of a good man.. One love Buddy Mcgirt
I did a binge of Whitaker fights, and Buddy isn't lying; Pernell would eat ribs and snatch your body. He is famous for being the defensive wizard, but great pros like McGirt will tell you that he was a problem offensively. He was not a power puncher, but he put many a lump on guys.
BUDDY JAMES McGIRT WAS A SOLID FIGHTER, A STRAIGHT LEGEND I REMEMBER THAT WHITTAKER FIGHT I LIKE BOTH FIGHTERS, DAAM THOSE WHERE THE DAYS...R.I.P SWEET PEA🥊🥊🥊🥊
Candid and insight by Buddy!😎

''I thought the referee hit me! '' 😂
Fast?!? I thought the ref was hitting me!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Esnews!!!Shout out from Tashken Auto Body!
I never saw a time that Buddy McGirt didn't bring it all to the ring. He was always in shape and he always had a game plan. He's as honest as they come. Glad to see his mind is still sharp too.
Buddy McGirt is a class act.
Hey Buddy good to see you’re doing well. Much love for the kid from 11717.

Love Buddy and Sweet Pea
Thumbs up just because Mcgirt is my manzziz
The guy that was real with him about the beating he took was a good friend. A hanger-on or yes man would have told him he was robbed to not fall out of favor with him.
Buddy McGirt was a great fighter
Shawn looks worried
I wish Buddy’s shoulder didn’t go out on him.
Buddy seems like a coo dude
Mcgirt was honest...this before Whitaker passed. He hit Buddy with a 10 punch combo.
RIP Sweet P (aka Sweet Pea)
Rip sweet pea
Look up his master's class with the then dangerous Simon brown..Buddy was perfect that night.. Brown was at this absolute peak .. Crawford has a South paw version of buddy style..
