Buddy Holly backstage interview 1958
We received this 1958 recording from North Carolina DJ and Buddy Holly fan Charlie Brown (www.onthebeachwithcharliebrown.com). It was recorded in Norfolk, Virginia, when Charlie and his friend Ronnie King worked on a high school teen radio program, and were able to go backstage to do interviews at touring shows. Amazing to hear the ever down-to-earth Buddy in such clarity!

The crazy thing here is it sounds like it was recorded yesterday..crystal clear recording. Yet it was 62 years ago. Such an all around cool and talented guy..what a tragic loss.

He said heartbeat releases in a few days in the interview. Let’s say he meant two days. Which would make this November 3rd which is two days before heartbeats release. And buddy died on Feb 3rd 1959 making this exactly 3 months before his death
@georgepoth8339

His song “Heartbeat” was released on November 5, 1958. He says in the interview that (starting at 1:48) “The last night of this tour is three nights from tonight in Richmond”. Buddy did two shows in Richmond on October 19, 1958. So the day of the interview was Thursday, October 16, right? And that means that it was exactly 110 days before his death, or 3 months, 2 weeks, and 4 days.

Just a good kid that wanted to play rock-n-roll his way. So ironic and sad that he was asked about his future plans. His life was ripped away from him by no fault of his own. Anyone of us would have made that decision to charter a plane rather than freeze on those buses. He didn't die of a drug overdose or abuse his body, he just got on the wrong damn plane.
His laugh is heaven.
Such a talented, humble, and cool dude. It’s insane how young he died, Eddie Cochran as well. A couple years into their musical career and tragedy struck both. They have immortalized themselves in music history in tremendously short time. It rattles the mind thinking what they could have written, recorded, produced and done had they lived a much longer, deserved life.
