Really. Dalai lama belongs to different Buddhist sect and in my ten year stay in Sri lanka never heard of Dalai Lama visiting temple of tooth relic or dalada maligawa. And the actuality of tooth relic is a mystery as all other so called buddas relics since none of them are scientifically verified. Nevertheless tooth relic have particular significance because the one who possessed it used to be the king of sri Lanka.

It's true that the Dalai Lama belongs to a different Buddhist sect and As per my research and news sources, it is indeed documented that the Dalai Lama has visited the Temple of the Tooth Relic (Dalada Maligawa) in Kandy, Sri Lanka, on several occasions.

Actually, Kandy remained independent from Portuguese and Dutch colonization. It was only later captured by the British.
