This video shows experimental tests carried on 4 PVC thin-walled tubes to destruction; under uniform external hydrostatic pressure. All 4 vessels collapsed by non-symmetric bifurcation buckling; better known as lobar buckling or shell instability. This work is of importance when circular section cylindrical tubes are used underground and also when they are used under water.under

    Hello, great video! I am building a homemade underwater ROV vehicle. I am using PVC tubes as the basic structural components. I would like to know what pressure can the tubes handle ? Sorry but I can not make out from the video, thanks! (in the last one, when you are "pumping" it exceds 100 psi, then you release and drops suddenly and you mention something about 60 psi, so I dont understand what is going on) And another thing = how are you sure that the metal "caps" will not leak ?
