It's a real shame. When ESPN originally covered hockey, it was on SportsCenter all the time, there was NHL2Night, and ESPN2 even broadcast Pro Beach Hockey from California. All they want to talk about is the NBA and NFL. Stephen A barely knows baseball.

I think the Executives at ESPN/ABC made a terrific decision to have PK take over the role from Mr Melrose as the “Charles Barkley” of NHL Hockey Analysts in being that National Commentator to US Audiences. FYI Hopefully before he passes away Barry Melrose will be inducted in the Broadcaster/Analyst category for the Hockey HOF.

I agree! Didn't like him as a player personally but he definitely has what it takes to do TV coverage and be entertaining. When he was a player, he got a lot of new fans into the sport when he was with the Habs. He's a big part of hockey imo. Another player making waves is Kevin Bieksa on Sportsnet. Some guys just have it and are confident at it. Edit: How could I forget BizNasty smh.

With all due respect to Brady for the 28-3 comeback and Lebron for the 3-1 comeback, A potential McDavid 3-0 comeback easily clears

Saying easily clears is a bit ridiculous. 3-0 comeback is indeed impressive, but the way hockey is as a sport, its pure momentum. Lebron 3-1 comeback was against a team going for 73-9 and title of best team of all time. Context matters

@@jspres86 exactly. Goaltenders can get hot for a playoff run and look line prime Hasek/Roy. What makes hockey the most fun playoffs is that a team can catch fire going into the playoffs and win it all no matter what seed. In basketball its harder for a team to have less talent and win 4 against the better team. Making it more predictable and less exciting if you arent a fan

The thing that First Take needs to understand, is that devoting more segments to the sports outside of football and basketball, will bring more eyes to those sports and it expands your demographic. Im not a hockey fan, but them talking about this game 7 has me intrigued

You are absolutely right it beats any other sport.

Stephen A. Smith knows nothing about hockey. When First Take compared the 2012-13 Heats' winning streak to the 2012-13 Blackhawks' point streak, Stephen A claimed that Chicago's streak was less impressive because it included ties (there have not been ties in the NHL since before the '03-'04 lockout). He knows absolutely nothing. The only player that he could name on either team before the Stanley Cup Finals started was probably Connor McDavid.

NHL gave ESPN a contract for hockey fans to watch games. That was the worst decision I’ve ever seen the NHL made. No pregame or postgame before puck drop. Basketball gets NBA countdown. Baseball has their full coverage. And all we get is a few minutes with PK and mark Messier before puck drop.also we have to pay money for ESPN +. They are a complete joke.

With a coach that got fired throughout the season because they kept losing. Then the GM gets McDavid's coach when he was in high school or something and they end up winning the cup with a reverse sweep in the finals? That would of been insane!! After the losing stint, if they lost 3 in a row, they would win like 7+ and also reaching double digits. We couldn't count out the McOilers but it was looking rather bleak for them a week ago.

I've been following this series on the nights that the NBA Finals weren't on and man, this series has been insane. Crazy moment shift has occurred, and Florida really might fold under the pressure that THEY created for THEMSELVES.

Love to see how Shannon is showing a lot of interest and energy when discussing hockey. He acknowledges his lack of insight but from a sporting perspective, he can show enthusiasm and respect the talent. He's in a much better place because if he were on with Skip, he'd be forced to discuss the Cowboys or another redundant LeBron vs Jordan debate.
