Bucket vs Snow Pusher For Snow Removal: Advantages/Disadvantages For John Deere & Kubota Tractors

Ойын-сауық

Let's compare a loader bucket vs a snow pusher for snow removal with your tractor. These attachments do look kind of similar, but how they perform is completely different. Yes, there's advantages and disadvantages to each attachment, but I truly feel that the snow pusher is much better suited both because of efficiency to complete the task at hand and also to protect the surface that you're plowing.
So, if you're trying to determine if you should use a your bucket or purchase a snow pusher, then I hope this video clearly explains what to expect with use of each one. Also, make sure you check out the other snow removal videos on my channel as you'll be able to see each of these tractor snow removal options in action along with many more. Thanks for watching!

    We purchased an HLA 1500 from GWT for our driveway. We have expensive pavers (with a modest undulating surface) with built in solar lighting and were naturally concerned about scratching the surface. I set the rubber edge down on the driveway and propped the shoes up ⅜” using a wood shim. We got about 2-3” of ice rain, snow, frozen snow and sleet over two days last week. I cleared our driveway three times using the pusher on our ‘orange’ machine and it worked excellently. Only a couple of light scrapes in places where the driveway was curved for drainage and because I have little experience pushing snow. Overall very pleased with the product. By the way, I put the new Carlisle Versa Turf tires on (replacing the R4s which were hard on the turf) and had no loss of traction issues whatsoever even though walking was treacherous.

    I put a plastic edge on my 3320 which is a 60 inch bucket there are 8 bolt wholes I cut it to 60 inches and it works great I recessed the bolts in the inch thick plastic and I’ve used it for 2 years doesn’t scratch the driveway and works great about 30 plows on it and it’s only a quarter the way shot . Cost me 40 dollars for the plastic piece and 6 bolts . Works just as good as the snow pusher without scratching the driveway. Unless you use the plastic cutting edge . Both units full up the bucket area and leave a trail so Sahara the point at least with the bucket you can stack the snow 10 ft tall .

I have the bucket on the front for snow removal and was look at a snow pusher, of course here in my part of Canada lots of wet snow. I do some plowing for customers and every now and then a side one wheel into a dig because my customer didn't put makers out. The bucket on my tractor has push/pull me out every time, could I push/ pull myself out with a snow pusher. Just want to know before I invest the money, thanks.

    I own a pusher and bucket on a much larger tractor. For the pusher to make sense as a purchase it has to be wider than the bucket. For example, my last tractor had a 6' bucket and easily handled an 8' pusher. The tractor could have handled a 10' but my plowing area didn't warrant that size. That said an inexperienced operator can dig a trench if they hit unfrozen ground or scalp a driveway that is in marginal condition with cracks and heaves.

  • @GoodWorksTractors

    @GoodWorksTractors

    Your tractor is most likely equivalent to a 4 Series or larger. Even many 5 Series have 72" buckets. That's the very extreme end of my customer base and even beyond. Smaller tractors aren't built the same as their larger cousins. They can't easily handle pushers a couple feet wider than their bucket and I'm not in the market of selling my customers attachments that push the limits of their tractor's capabilities. Skid shoes are found on every plow, pusher, and snowblower for a reason....simply put...they are needed to allow the attachment to glide or slide versus dig in. Buckets don't have anything that allows them to slide or glide. Buckets are designed to dig, scrape, and hold. Different purposes all together.

    As someone whobpliws with a skid, bobcat s650, my push box is far superior to the bucket in every way as far as clearing lots goes, especially commercial. Granted my push box is 10' and the bucket is 3.5-4', if my bucket was the same 10' id take the box. I can stack the snow higher and faster with a box, I use the "snow wolf ultra plow" I believe it's called, so i can separate the box and have just a blade so that helps. I only use my bucket for a very long sidewalk, and it's a little too wide so there is some turf damage for the spring lol, and if a pile gets too high and I need to move it to another spot, but then I use the push box to stack it.

    Personally I went to a rear blade for clearing our gravel drive and parking areas. Front systems have just been a pain in gravel as its hard to get a consistent height as well as its easy to push the gravel into your snow berm/pile. Useing a rear blade to pull the snow 90% of the way seems to allow me to move more snow less gravel. I use front attachment to push the snow into a berm . Front attachment seem to work best on smooth graded surfaces. Just my experience and what works best for me.

    Our local John deere would not sell us a pusher for any compact tractor. They said the loader is not designed for the amount of side pressure that the pusher can create.

  • @GoodWorksTractors

    @GoodWorksTractors

    4 жыл бұрын

    Did he explain what is creating side pressure as I don't follow that at all? A John Deere snow plow would create much more "side pressure" as the blade is constantly angled exerting more force on one side of the machine. A snow pusher evenly traps and distributes the load across the face of the pusher. That raises some red flags about that salesman if you ask me.

    Buckets are used for plowing and pushing while turning all the time. So are loader mounted plows. I think we'd have seen some significant issues in the last 30 years if this were true. Otherwise, there would be warnings by all dealers, warnings in the loader manuals, and John Deere/Frontier wouldn't sell any of those attachments for compact tractors. There would be forum threads all over the internet about this issue as well if prevalent. There will always be someone who finds a way to damage a tractor, but that doesn't mean it's commonplace. Anything can happen, but that seems a bit extreme to me.
