Bucket List ✔ EPIC ALBACORE TUNA TRIP Fort Bragg, CA

Спорт

My brother and I traveled up the California Coast to Fort Bragg. We had our eyes set on catching some albacore tuna. This was my first time in my boat going for tuna so we weren't to sure how the day would end up. Well lets just say things turned out really well.

You need to convert those troll fish to either iron or live bait. Ditch the cedar plugs and go with the Mexican flag or zucchini clones on all your rods.. Albacore swim in schools so when you find one stop the boat, throw flat fall jigs or swim baits. And we use nets. Less blood in the boat means less sharks, and better quality fish. Checknout my video if last weeks trip where 4 of us boated 28 by noon. Good job for your second trip..

I highly recommend the gaff. The fish needs to be bled anyways. Chris. If you want to put a few more in n the boat next time. . I recommend a purple Rapala. Worked Dyno for me out of San Diego back in the day. Also keep all your lures in the same length behind the boat. Remember dark lures dark sky. Bright lures bright sky . You guys did pretty damn good. My best day was 13 albacore & 2 yellowtail. I was cleaning fish the whole ride in. Boy do I miss it. !!

One more suggestion Chris, on the hookup leave it in the rod holder until the boat slows down. Much easier to take it out of the holder. And of course don’t slow down right away. Give it a little time for that double and triple… tight lines

When you hook up on the troll don't stop drag that fish for a little bit and let it run if you drag that fish you'll hook up multiple Poles because there's a whole school following that fish that just took that Hook If you drag it you can end up with 3 fish at once that's one again that's when it gets fun

Hey Chris, Really enjoy your vids. I admire your intelligent approach to the way you fish. As well as the time you put in, which is what it takes to be successful. I really appreciate you taking your youngsters out and exposing them to and teaching them about the oceans wonders. You're igniting that spark of curiosity in them that will inspire them do the same with your grandkids. Kudos to you brother! I'm an avid fisherman and have fished commercially and ran charters on the Monterey Bay for 25+ years.I have 6 kids and 8 gkids. My kids all grew up on the boat .Now as their kids are coming of age Im a proud pop and Gpa teaching the next generation and watching my kids passing along the tradition. It's been awesome watching you experiencing the thrill of going out your first couple of times and hooking into these fish. Hooking into 2-3-4 or more at the same time. Feeling the raw power and speed they have is so cool.. Watching you get the "Fever" that every avid fisherman gets after landing their first Longfin. That thrill never goes away! If your interested I've got some info I'd like to share with you that I think could help you potentially put a few more long fin in your box. Not to sound like a jerk but as you're learning Albacore fishing and fishing for pelagics in general takes a lot of planning, time, money and considerable amount of risk going that far out to sea. It's not my intention to disrespect or upset any of your subscribers, and I hope you understand my hesitation to put this info on open KZread. It is hard earned knowledge that I've had shared with me and have accumulated myself from years spent on the water. If you have another way I can pass this info along to you I''d love to share this with you . Hopefully the fish will stay around long enough this year to see how this works for you. ~Cap'n Hook

Hello Chris, my 2 cents on tuna… I don’t like using boat lines to many tangles. I troll 4 lines.. the closer to the boat the better. 3rd wake or sometimes 5th wake. Keep spread close together for multi hookups. I run the same baits on each side on forward rods and different baits on back rods. Fish hits keep going for multi hook ups. When u figure no more hookups. Show down. Toss in a few dead chovies, Keep live bait or dead bait rod ready, swim baits also work. Tuna school will follow hooked fish so fly line bait back, works pretty good sometimes. You did well on your first trip. Tuna fishing info via a text is at best difficult, maybe someday we could sit down and talk fishing…. Hopefully what I typed here makes sense… lol

I showed the lures. I didnt mention speed that is 7-9 mph. You want to be in water 60-62 degrees. You can troll as many lines as you want. spread them out different distances from boat. Hope that helps?

Call when I was going to fish and I did pretty good but he got pretty a good size like 5 inches long. They look like mackerel and another one was clear white one I think that’s the name of it. We use those things man and we caught them like crazy, but that was five years ago in Santa Cruz 20 miles out I think
