BUCK 110 RESTORATION
Ойын-сауық
In this video, watch me take care of some shop chores, and finish up some customer orders. One of the orders, a vintage BUCK 110 replica made by Klein, Japan, gets beautiful new handle scales.

My absolute favorite KZread Channel is Mr Chickadee, no dialog, no narration. He works strictly with hand tools the sound of the saws, chisels, planes and scrapers is hypnotic.

Never heard of him. I'll check it out!
I love watching Andrew to . One of my fav KZreadrs for that type of stuff
for the people that don't know Klein manufactures the best lineman tools on the market IMO, great gob on the restoration on the knife............JS*
I love first person POV on videos like this. Woodworking, cooking, metal shaping, pretty much any thing I like to watch that has people working with there hands. Please keep it how you do it now as far as shop noise in the background with some nice music over it.
What beautiful job on the folder! Thanks for sharing.
In digging the vacuum set up you have for that 2X72 grinder. It’s super quiet 🤫.
Fantastic job on the knife. It looks brand new. I think walking around with the camera can be nice for some of the shots but I prefer a steadier footage.
Nice job on that knife Beautiful!!
Buck restorations are my favourite!
kyle what you did for that knife is absolutely amazing. That thing is beautiful. Great Job. WOW
Nice work!
Go pro veiw is cool for parts of a video those stationary close ups are gold too
Thanks for the video. I plan to restore my Buck knife, and it's a real Buck. You have shown me what to do and your have inspired me to do it.
Wow! Awesome job!
I like your narration Kyle for areas that require some explanation.
That's just a beautiful restoration😚👍🏻 Beautiful scales and buffing, and you got the knicks out too⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🤠👍🏻
that looks fine!
Andrew is a legend ... did you see the video where he installed a radio in his truck and used a chain saw to trim the opening? He is the best -
I have an old buck in similar shape. I use it at work. This one turned out quite nice
I think you are right to admire the way some artisans skip the cinematics - something pure about it. Best wishes.
I'm assuming you've already got the air system thing figured out by now, since this video is 2 years old... but basically, when people have the tubes all over their shop, they have stop gates at every end of them. They keep them all closed and air tight so that they only open the one hose port that they will be using for best suction to the system for the dust. Some people have even made automatic opening stop gates that open when the attached tool is turned on. (pretty fancy!) As for your air setup here in this video (I haven't seen too many of your newer videos yet), you might consider using downsizing hose converters to a smaller diameter hose for more suction. Similar principle to water out of a water hose when you put a narrow tip on the end of it or when you pinch the hose, the water builds some pressure and kind or runs seemingly faster. I sometimes watch videos about woodworking with guitars and the tricks they use. I couldn't help but notice the little holes/cracks/fissures in your scales on the knife in this video at the end. Guitar makers, when they encounter this, they will usually either mix CA glue with wood dust from the same wood they were working with, and mix it together and fill those voids. Let it cure, and then sand and buff it out. You could alternatively use epoxy if you wanted to. If they do need to dye the CA glue or epoxy, they tend to go for black, because they say that black in those thin cracks just ends up looking like wood grain more than using any other colors. It's interesting stuff. I found your videos because I am really trying to figure out what kind of knife was used as reference for the folding knife in the video game Resident Evil 7 (images can be seen by doing a Google image search). It's definitely a mix of a few knives I think, but at the same time, it looks really rough. I kind of want to recreate it but I was trying to find out how to make my own lockback function to work just as it would on similar knives. I came across the Buck 110 as being very similar to it, although much smaller in size, and the blade on the RE7 knife looks like a modified Spyderco blade. I personally think it's similar to a Buck Spitfire blade shape but then again, who knows what the inspiration really was other than the game developers. After doing a bit of studying on knife design and styles, I was thinking of making the knife appear to be a lockback but actually make it function like an Triad Lock (Cold Steel). The one thing I'm not sure about is if to make it as a one piece brass construction for the frame like a Buck 110 (I know it would be more difficult for most people to recreate something like that without proper machinery, a milling machine at least) or to make it with separate bolsters and have brass liners. That would certainly be more pieces but in a way, it's easier to make with basic tools. Anyways, cheers and you do really good work, are calm, collected, concise, patient, and I appreciate all of that!
Wow, awesome Kyle! He should be happy with that, better than new. 👍🏽
Great job
Knife looked great. Enjoy that kind of thing. Also enjoyed your axe restorations when you did them.
I like the go pro action, looks good 👍
Brother, that turned out amazing!
Great job on that one nice
Wow, oh mean for a Japanese knife, it’s amazing looking
Nice to see I ain't the only one with a bunch of stuff in my shed. Lol. I could close the door for a month and it's like more stuff magically appears lol. Beautiful leather work and nice restore on the knife. Take care.

Beautiful job on that 110 Kyle. The Go Pro .I owned 2 Go Pro 4 ‘s and never took them out of the box . When your video first began I knew that you had the camera up front. It was excellent.Almost like we were experiencing the moment. That is the intent I believe. It isn’t a format for the overall surroundings. It tends to move your focal length towards infinity ♾ and displaces the perspective to distort what your viewing. In otherwords you lose your 1:1 ratio. It’s great for you up close with your work and your viewing audience is close by to appreciate and learn the exceptional work that you are displaying..🌺🌸Come on spring . Goodbye Covid-19
Hi Kyle, I like the Go-pro video of you working around the shop. Cool perspective. I carry a Buck 110 as an EDC knife as it is my favorite. Thanks. That knife came out amazing...

@@kyle_noseworthy Bwahahaha!! I know what you mean!! I have dozens of Buck Knives; including a few 110s. But I carry none of them!! My EDC is still one of my Swiss Army knives. I most often have a 12 tool version and the most often used tools are the scissors or the switch out-able tipped tool w/screwdrivers.
The Go-Pro shot would be awesome with narration from time to time

I thought that as well! I will definitely do that once I work out the recording space!
Nice work Kyle. I know we chatted of this off the channel but please do with regards to other cameras. I love Andrews channel. He does great work and great videos as well. I always appreciate a good close up with perfect focus to display your products, such as from your DSLR, but there are times when a more infinite focus from a GoPro or OSMO Pocket would be better suited to moving around the shop, in the woods, on the quad/bike, etc.... In the end, most of us watch this on a smaller screen and would all appreciate good quality, in focus footage. The ability to strap these new action cams to almost anything is awesome. The new electronic stability that most come with is pretty accurate as well. Good luck with your decision but please include some commentary as you go. Even if after the fact during editing. We all like to hear what you are thinking. Keep it up.
Nice👍👍👍
Wow.....what a job sir....truly impressive skill regarding what you do:) Stay safe:)
I enjoy watching Andrew Camarata, strange what you will watch isn't it, I love the container Castle he has built

Oh no, I put on Andrew Camarata when I need to go to sleep. I much prefer Time-Lapse to his style. But his work ethic is phenomenal!
Hey man! Saw you’re from Middle Arm, I’m from Botwood, lived in Springdale for about a year, used to pop down to Sammies for a feed once in a while. Wondering if you might do a quick video on sharpening with a small pocket stone!? Love the channel, best sharpening videos by far 👍👊
Blower...are you using straight tubes not corrugated? Also Richard below I agree.. large tube, low speed. Small tube, high speed. Distribute small then taper to large I believe.
@kyle_noseworthy
4 жыл бұрын
using corrugated hose. You're thinking to have a smaller hose running straight off the grinder, that tapers into my 4" hose somewhere along the way TO the blower. ?
@lward8951
4 жыл бұрын
@@kyle_noseworthy strictly a thought. First corrugated reduces by thirty percent, just HVAC rule of thumb. Re Bernoulli, try smaller tube like two inch direct from blower to bottom of pickup.something simple to test. Makes physic sense but not always true real world. If you can try at no cost might be interesting.
Kyle- Outstanding videos. This is the 3rd I’ve seen and I’m going to do a rescale on my dads old 110. BTW who’s music is playing? Nice rhythms. Thanks for sharing. Donald
Kyle, does the dust collection system work any better if you leave the shop door open? Maybe it needs make-up "return" air to do its job!
Hey Kyle, research Bernoulli's Principle. Thank you for the videos!
Go pro vids are good
Kyle i got a quextion for you. My stepdad died a few years back and in inherited all his pocket knives. On his slip joints the blade wobble and alignment was killing me. I wraped the blades with masking tape till they were centered when closed and peened the pin in the bolster. This fixed their issues. He has a chinese made 110 clone and it has needs centered and the blade wobble is crazy. Do you think maybe i could fix it using the same technique?
What did this run, I have an old Kline as well?

I charge $100 CAD for a scale replacement!
Either or for your way of videoing is fine with me. I’m not that fussy. Going to be a tough go on us Outfitters if we can’t have the boarders open. Good luck

Thanks Cory. Yep, It'll be a rough year for many of us. However, as long as we have our health and family, we can make due for the rest!
Fantastic restoration kyle, always great to see an heirloom piece brought back to life. What wood did you use? Not a big fan of the go pro im afraid, just too much movement, makes you feel drunk, even worse when i am drunk 😂😂😂😂😂
Yes, mount your camras and let it run try one a week.

A big improvement in the knife. KZread is my entertainment. I enjoy long videos. But long is not always good. Lets say a person holding a fishing pole for a hour without a fish is not enjoying.

KZread is my entertainment. The only thing television offers me is news. It's usually bad, but that's my sinful pleasure. I'm contemplating having Kyle replace the scales and restore an American "Frontier" Buck copy that belonged to my grandfather. I believe he would be proud of me putting it in the skilled hands of this man.
Halfway through before you get to Buck? Why?

I have a Normark Super Swede that someone decided that they could 'fix' for me. One of the Chicago screws was missing the female end. SO! IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE THAT KNOWS WHO I CAN SEND IT TO FOR REASSEMBLY !!!!!????????? PLEASE!!!!!!!!??

Don’t like the go pro. Ok if you are not moving around.
Move slowly… too fast movements.
Why would you do all that work to a knife that is not worth anything
Not a Buck 110, not a Buck says made in Japan on it! Misleading dude, not cool.

Jesus. Just appreciate the restoration. It would be the same video if it was a genuine Buck.
