BUC-EE'S: Why Are Americans So Obsessed With It?

We paid our first visit to a Buc-ee's, the World's largest gas station to find out why Americans (and definitely Texans) are so obsessed with it and it certainly didn't take us long!

Who & what is JJ Extra all about?
We're Jason & Josh, a British couple living in the UK who proudly suffer from wanderlust! After meeting in early 2019 with dreams of travelling the World together we were all plunged in to the chaos of a global pandemic.
Now, as we move in to the future we are making up for lost time and ensuring every day turns in to an adventure, fuelled by our love of food and an unhealthy (but enjoyable) addiction to coffee.
Over the last 2 years we have explored our beautiful home country like never before and in 2022 we have been lucky enough to start travelling abroad once more. Now our dream of travelling the World together has been reignited and this is only the beginning!

I knew they were big, but I had no idea just how massive. They built one in SC on the way to the beach. On our last beach trip and the thing is the size of a Walmarts. We're definitely stopping in a few months when we go back to the beach.

I watched the special, All Creatures Great and Small: Touring the Dale's. They went to all the places where this show was made. Hope to get to England someday with the hubby!!! We got married April Fool's Day in 2023. Swimming with the dolphins at Discovery Cove was our "present" to each other. ❤️

Buc-ee's is a great stop for an American road trip. Most of them are in Texas and have recently started expanding to other southern states like Georgia and Florida. I'm surprised you didn't talk about the massive amount of fuel pumps outside! Hundreds of stations and the price is usually cheaper than any other gas stations around.

Love the title "Why are Americans...obsessed..." When most Americans have never been to or heard of a Buc-ee's, especially until a few years ago when they expanded outside of Texas. A lot of the youtube videos are from foreigners .

Yeah. This is a Texas thing more than an American thing. I am from Texas, and we LOVE Buc-ee's here. We drop in every chance we get. They're building a new one a few miles from is - this one is now going to be the largest one in America (world?). Definitely worth visiting.

Yup its absolutely much more a Texas thing than an American thing. It's slowly become a Southern Thing but even that will always be second to it being a Texas thing. I'm anxiously awaiting them building one here in Hill Country. The Beavers At Work sign is up on i-10 so there's progress lol.

I didn't know about this monstrosity until 2016. I stopped at the one in Baytown, Tx and the only reason I stopped was because of the price of fuel was so cheap. When I wanted to prepay I was annoyed because of how far I had to walk to find a check out counter to pay for my gas. They still have the cheapest gas when I travel to my relatives in Central Texas ( I'm in Florida). If their gas (petrol) wasn't so cheap, I wouldn't stop at that place.

I'm not a native Texan but have lived here for nearly two decades, and I think a lot of the things Texans (my wife included) just do backflips for are super over-hyped. Whataburger, for example, I think is absurdly overrated (it's good, but not remotely as good as Texans think it is). But Buc-ee's is the one Texas institution that absolutely, without question, not only matched but surpassed the hype for me.
