somehow id heard about and seen fiona and cake but i didnt know distant lands was a thing until i saw clips in here that i didnt recognize so THANK YOU 😭😭😭 gonna go binge it right now, ty for my life also in case anyones interested, i wanna share a story about how much the 'what was missing' episode meant to me growing up as sapphic- (i identify as nonbinary they/he, but identified as a lesbian until i realised i wasn't a girl). i had finally come out as liking girls about a year prior to the episode coming out, and i had a bit of a flirtationship with this girl who had just come out of a relationship with a boy after realizing she was a lesbian. neither of us had actually dated a girl yet, and when this episode dropped, she was so excited to tell me about the representation in the episode, because it was small, but the only sapphic representation either of us had ever seen in a media that wasn't specifically r rated and that was actually like, GOOD representation. it was one of the first adventure time episodes i actually sought out to watch when she told me about it. (i'd only ever really seen the show on in the background before that and had never made a genuine effort to watch). she lived about 3 hours away from me (we met at an anime convention that we'd both traveled for), and out of nowhere, one of her friends asked if i could come to her birthday party and spend the night, because they both really wanted me to come. i begged my mom to take me, and she drove me all 3 hours, drove all the way back home, and did the same the following day to pick me up. the girl i liked greeted me with a heart shaped necklace, and then me and all of her friends sat down and watched the 'what was missing' episode together. she kissed me on the cheek, and slept right next to each other with our arms around each other that night. before i left the next day, we made the relationship official. we dated for a good 6 or 7 years. we only broke up once i started identifying as male-leaning- it was 100% mutual, and we're still very close friends to this day. i don't think i ever would have watched all of adventure time if it hadn't been for her insisting i watch for the bubbeline content.

I can never understand why some people think Marceline deserves to be someone better than PB when they are actually perfectly aligned with each other. The two went through a lot as they grew up in a post-apocalyptic world filled with monsters and outlaws that gave them a lot of personal issues. They went through their own personal character arc that resulted in them defeating their own demons to be better people. After going through their own arc, they started to rebuild their relationship and they even helped each other to grow Marcy helped Bonnie balance her work life and PB helped her to grow up. By the end of the series, they finally arrive at a point where they can rely on and love each other. Showing us how much they had changed throughout the series. If that doesn't convince you that they're perfect for each other then I don't what will.

We know from distant lands that they broke up badly ages ago, to the point that her first (and only) reaction Pb has to seeing Marcy again is annoyance in S2. Yet she kept that shirt. Which by S3 she wears as pajamas. And I'm just so curious as to what it meant for her during all those years they were apart, how much it hurt or comforted her. Idk, it fascinates me.

I absolutely hate the discourse that surrounds PB as a character now. Did she do messed up things in the past? Yes. Absolutely. But the show has always been open about it and other characters called her out multiple times. Which led her to undergo a personal change, reassess what she was doing, and become a better person. And her becoming a more empathetic person is what led to her and Marcy getting back together because Marcy saw that she changed too. It’s like all these people are discovering her shady past NOW and are being intentionally ignorant to the arc she had. It’s like calling Zuko an irredeemable monster for the messed up stuff he did in Season 1 of Avatar. Bubbline is awesome because it’s two people who made some mistakes in their LOOOOOONG lives but found happiness and became the best versions of themselves by finding someone who they can relate to and love. These two are perfect for each other.

THANK YOU. sure, she did do some bad things, but i think the good things she did outweigh the bad. also, people judge her out of context a lot of the time and don't understand why she was the way she was. she also had a traumatic past and people hate on her for using self defense?? she literally had to teach herself how to live. people also say that marceline deserved better, but if that were the case, marcy wouldn't still be with bonnie. i think marcy is assertive enough to break up with her again if she was bad for her. also, marcy literally even mentioned that bonnie is good for her. i think it's silly (in a bad way) to think that they are bad for each other. i really think bubblegum is a very misunderstood character speaking of avatar, i really need to watch that show! i think i watched most of season 1, but obviously need to watch more of it efergfd

Finn and Jake never have been like "Yo PB is actually an evil dictator. She needs to be taken down NOW." No, they respect the changes she went through and see her as one of their closest friends and allies. All these ignorant people who only know the surface level things about the show and her character need to shut up.

However, PB and Marceline had to be older characters in order for them to friends with Finn and Jake, but not peers who were learning and growing like they were. That in turn necessitates that PB and Marceline had to have known each other for some time, before Finn and Jake were born. I’m guessing that for their first chronological meeting, the writers intended their relationship to be strained, since their personalities were so different and most foils like that don’t get along well irl. They may have been on the fence at the time about whether they were a couple, hence we don’t see any romanticism there. However, “What was missing” signals a shift, where that aloofness now only describes the current phase of their relationship. PB always had those feelings; she just had a hard time expressing them openly. And Marceline always masked her softness as a result of her struggles, so she never reached out either. The episode presents an opportunity to rekindle that relationship, with the shirt getting brought out and Marceline tagging along just because she wanted to hang out. The seeds of a deeper relationship were planted, and I think that’s because the team knew they needed to take them both in a worthwhile direction and offer something no one else had ever pulled off in kids animated television: representation for LGBTQIA+ I don’t know how that was okayed by execs back then, but because it was, we are all better off for it. The success was well received by the public, and once everyone knew that Bubbline was going to work, the rest was history… ❤

@@SomebodywithaKZreadaccount I honestly don't care about "lgbt representation", what I saw and continue to see is a very good couple in a series, and I think everyone should think that way. Bubbline God, is at a similar level to Lumity from The Owl House

They were literally cottage-core lesbians for the last 4 or so seasons and Cartoon Network's execs _still_ either didn't get it, or wouldn't let them kiss onscreen until the end. It's nice that kids got good LGBT representation in a show for them, I just wish they were allowed to say as much.

A lot of shows include lgbtqia+ now as a norm to garner attention, but AT just wanted to do it to be genuinely accepting of all people and relationships regardless of what others thought. @@SomebodywithaKZreadaccount OOO okay, i've been wondering if anyone would ask that! i didn't want to put it in my channel desc because it's kind of a mouthful, but i have it in my carrd that's linked under my description (as well as some other disabilities i'm suspecting/have been diagnosed with!) anyways, the only neurodivergency i've officially been diagnosed with is ocd. but i am almost positive i'm autistic and maybe even have adhd (just a very high masker, plus i'm afab so it's harder to tell). i think i might also have dyscalculia and i'm pretty positive i have a couple personality disorders as well (dpd and avpd). yeah, it's a mouthful 😭 they're not just random either, i follow all the necessary criteria for all of these disorders :) aaa i'm hoping i will eventually be able to afford to get these diagnoses

I'm not really interested in watching adventure times,but I would definitely watch the entire show for these two😭

For the younger folk and those who don't know 2011 is literally 4 years before gay marriage was even legalized federally in the states
