Both my father and mother have Jewish DNA, we are Puerto Rican. The thing is prior to DNa tests we had no idea. With every single update on the site it continues to go up in % which makes it more clear it's sifnificant. Do know many Jewish people fled to the new world but do not know how we would be able to find the surnames. Ever since I have not made a link to the Jewish Ancestors. It sucks that in the Inquisition of Spain many were forcibly converted to Catholic and were given spanish surnames.

You can write to the archives in those countries to see what information is available and how much it costs to get access to those records.

Recently I took the DNA test and I am 2% Ashkenazi Jewish. That means I had an ancestor that was Jewish but how far was that ancestor? Also, at this percentage could there be any risks for Ashkenazi genetic diseases?

Not likely unless your other 98% also has risks for the same diseases. 2% would be from 1 great, great, great grandparent , about 6 or more generations ago.

Our Family name WAS changed at Ellis Island, FACT

Names were recorded at Ellis Island based on the passenger lists that were created at the port of origin. So, technically, if there was a name change, it would have occurred when the boarded the ship not when they got off.
