KPop Rocks ! That may have been one time with a specific reason, but most of the videos I’ve seen he is a BTS fan and backs them up a lot. I like that even though he likes the group and encourages and backs them up he is not afraid to ask or put out the hard questions. That does not mean he doesn’t like them any less or doesn’t support them any less. I would rather have a friendly devil’s advocate than a hostile one. By the way I’m old army on both time and age and have watched him and others for a long time. I have seen things that connect him to them and BTS does watch and read a lot of what people post. What I find horrifying is your response and the attack you made. It was viscous and UN ARMY like. The fact that ORIGINAL ARMY has not attacked him( as they are most protective) should be your clue that he is not trying to destroy BTS or run them out. That response is not a love yourself and try to remain open no fighting response. Please rethink. WORDS have power and what and how you say things could grow out of your control or perspective. As you are a fan I think we should try and up hold how BTS wants us to present ourselves to ourselves, each other and the world. I just want you to be able to get your thoughts out without attacking someone who has done nothing to you personally. Not only does BTS NOT stand for that but that is one definition of being a bully. Which was not what you where trying to do. Like I said words have power and misstated or misinterpreted could cause things to blow out of hand. So in the future to try to think of what you want to say and reread it before you post. Once it is posted even if you delete it someone has seen it at least once unless it’s immediate. I am older than 50 just to put it out there and I do like BTS very much. I have , read and listened to mega amounts of videos, articles and music. I am sorry if this was a little harsh. I just watched an interview were they said they wanted us all to be healthy and happy as they were. Then I saw your comment which was neither healthy or happy. You can clap back at me , rage at me , or any other means of venting any frustration or anger felt because of my comment. I won’t look at it again. And I love myself enough to try to treat people with the respect they deserve and to listen to their OPINION wether they agree with me or not. That is what makes a good meaningful conversation. Have a great day. GO BTS💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 I believe in you guys because you are paving your own road. Good for you. ...... by the way I hope you have a great 2020 ❤️💜😊

It's very good that you guys are taking other theories into consideration even if you don't agree with everything but sometimes you can find things that make a lot of sense that someone else has come up with in their research like Bookish Theories. There are so many connections to things like movies (the maze runner, lord of the rings, the lion king), religious images (Noah, Jesus, crown of thorns , the conch shell from buddhism and hinduism, the temple with lit candles) that connect to resurrection and rebirth. There is also a lot of visual connection to BTS's art project "connect BTS". The mythological and religious themes carl Jung used in his theories about the human psyche and about how many ideas that are similar are depicted across different cultures and time periods like rebirth or resurrection stories. And story archetypes like the eternal journey or the hero's journey that are depicted in things like movies lord of the rings, maze runner, the lion king, etc. These are all powerful stories that evoke emotional responses to their visual representations and resonate with many people from all walks of life, all of humanity. We may not share the exact same beliefs but there is something to be said for themes and ideas that move many people in a similar way and connect us with each other.

BTS stands for peace: Jin against war and violence (the doves and battlefield imagery) Jungkook for freedom (running from someplace with his hands bound), Jimin for self-expression (the drums tossed into a haphazard pile, showing that they might be about to be destroyed), Taehyung for protecting young people (the girl whose blindfold he removes and joins hands with), Namjoon against the extinction of animals (the ark run aground), J-Hope against environmental destruction (the destroyed forest stretching out into the horizon), Yoongi against fanaticism which divides and oppresses people (the cult-like imagery?) They want everyone (especially young people) to join together and fight for a better future.

"Gotta go insane to stay sane" Carl Jung purposefully put himself through psychosis in order to study his psyche, and that's where he wrote many of his ideas on individuation. Obviously, this isn't something people should do, but it is interesting how that's related.

Instead, he encouraged their appearance throughout the day, for years. After dinner each night and in-between seeing patients during the day, Jung spent time in his study inducing the visions and hallucinations. He did this not through the use of any kind of drug, apparently, but instead through his own personal methods that allowed his unconscious mind to become totally open and flowing forth." he didn't create his own _psychosis_ but op meant he put himself through the psychotic episodes which he claimed to induce purposefully

its also another reference to a novel called Lord of the flies. They boys represent the choir boys, when they have gone insane and started going to natural instincts, this representing their shadows, while they themselves are accepting it, letting it live in them. because in the novel, the choir boys were slowly going from humane to to insane, they soon snapped out of it and realized what they have done, and now live knowing both of themselves.

what i think is that the greatest art pieces always start discussion, and make ppl think. maybe the idea of the MV was to vaguely give us a storyline, but leave a lot to interpret and theorize about. beside being good for business, it also gives ARMY a tool to grow, to learn, to think, and to try to find our own understanding. maybe no answer is right or wrong, just your own answer is the right for yourself. Danny, thank you for the video, for your work, it is much appreciated. i'm sure it took a long time to try to make some sense of it all. good work :)

A tool to grow, to use their brain (armies). Yes, I believe you are right. Throught these songs and MVs, Bighit and BTS try to make people think, feel and grow as person. The journey is important, and at the end of it, you become a better human being. I wish more armies (or, just people) would think of that.

These should actually be titled “BTS - ON: A Korean guy’s interpretation” to be accurate and to help this ridiculous culture of kpop fans/people assuming and jumping to conclusions about everything lol so many people claim to know the true intentions and meanings behind every little thing kpop artists do and say, and that is NOT good! It’d led to so many false rumors and fake news everywhere, kpop fans have a rep for being extreamly toxic to others and to the artists themselves even more, as a fan myself we all need to become more transparent and write things and label them accurately. If it’s you interpretation of a song or lyrics than WRITE THAT AS A DISCLAIMER! Seriously, people are gonna read your titles and how you always write them to sound as if they’re the official explanations / meanings will and have seriously misled people, and while I understand it’s so you can trick them into believing yours is the official line, it’s very selfish to do so lol. Even you had quickly mentioned that this and that are your theories on this vid briefly. As a fan of yours and kpop in General I’m trying to help you and all of us as a whole as kpop culture needs to change so that it doesn’t become more toxic! And a good starting point is by correcting the little details like what I mentioned, because they have large effects.

And y'all do make the best theories so honestly I wouldn't be surprised if he'll watch it! Oh and one thing I would say is that I thought of Jungkook as more of a representation of Jesus. He has the thorny bondage, and in the behind the scenes video he explained that his character was doing fine in there, but he had a special power/gift and they threw him out of that city. But the point about Marry Magdalene makes a lot of sense, I didn't think of that before. It does seem to fit well. And also thank you so much for this explanation! "Gotta go insane to stay sane" reminded me of Pirandello and the concept of "follia" (craziness). it's a little bit tricky to explain but I'm gonna try (feel free to correct me): in order to survive the daily routine (along with all the challenges), his characters need to have a "crazy habit" which doesn't conform to their all behaved personality that everybody knows. Once they start having this habit, they become portrayed as "insane" in the eyes of the "normal" society. In reality, the characters are awake, since they are aware of their surroundings ( the system, the social/economical traps ie working in order to provide economically to the family, having a good position in society, having a good reputation ecc). Therefore the "crazy habit" is a getaway that helps them to cope up with life (and life's traps). In conclusion, the question is: who is really insane? Those who don't know or those who are awake? I hope it's all clear Thank you for coming to my ted talk 🤭

I thought the same thing when Jimin's scene came up with the boy sitting on the truck holding his drum. I loved that Christmas Carol growing up...still do. The lyrics always touch me and make me teary eyed. "Little baby , I am a poor boy too, I have no gift to bring, That's fit to give our King, Shall I play for you, On my drum" I love when the drummer boys says, "I am a poor boy too". Jesus was born with the most humble beginnings, literally born in a barn with animals, and laid in a feeding trough, and the this boy could relate to his King because they were both poor.

There’s actually another biblical reference when the sky grows dark after Jungkook blows on the conch shell. In the gospels, in the hours before Jesus died, God made the sky turn dark and I’m pretty certain it was at this time God made Jesus carry the burden of every human’s sin on his own making Jesus ask why he was ‘forsaken’. This time was a crux moment in the Bible which I think can be transferred both in terms of the literal images in the MV and the psyche. The meaning relating to psyche is probably that the dance battle is symbolic of their darkest moment. The moment just before they have fully accepted their Shadows in which they can see their deepest aspects in full light and have to face what they see there, just like Jesus did when he was burdened with the world’s sin. After this, everything grows lush, obviously symbolising that they were successful in their fight and are ‘enlightened’, ascending to ‘heaven’ just like Jesus did at the end of his return to earth. They are fully accepting of their own demons and hidden angels and thus, like Jesus removing the barriers between human and God, are pure enough to make this ascension now. Now bringing in a few more literal things: Jungkook blowing on the conch shell could be a reference to Jesus’ cry “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” A desperate cry for help in a moment of great need. Unlike Jesus who had to suffer alone, Jungkook has his hyungs there and the dance symbolises that they (and ARMY) will all fight together to promote this self acceptance. The fire after the dance battle can also symbolise the moment of death of who they were previously just like Jesus death being physically represented in the torn temple curtains. Because the old them had to die in order for a better version of themselves to thrive. From then on it is simply the symbolic representation of the world becoming more beautiful as a result of suffering due to humans being able to have a relationship with God and then Jesus returning to ascend once more, BTS running up the cliff. I hope this made sense, forgive the massive amounts of detail, I went to a catholic school and had an Anglican family so I heard the story WAY too many times.

this makes so much sense I totally agree with the general idea of what you're saying, I'm Muslim so I don't know if this will be valid since the mv is mostly Christian like (I think) but in Islam, there is two "blowing in Trumpet", before the Judgment Day an angel named israfil blows in trumpet looks like a horn, the first people get stunned and die by it, then God descends rain as in shadow (literal translation) "I think this is very clear in the mv when everything gets dark and the dance break happens" Then blows another and they are standing up look"we can say it happens after the dance break finishes(?)". after that Judgment Day starts. and good people go to heaven and the bad to hell. I feel like this really goes with everything you said about the dance break being (symbolic of their darkest moment, The moment just before they have fully accepted their Shadows) aka the day of judgment which everything will be faced then (i think they used the religious stories as a metaphor for the struggles one faces finding their true selves (heaven>ego, death>shadow) as in you can't find heaven without facing death sorry if this doesn't make sense at all I'm having a hard time explaining what I understand since it's so complicated

Initially with this MV I thought Jin resurrected the dove but he seemed surprised when it resurrected in the cage. JK was kicked from society for being suspected of "witchcraft" for his powers (one of which is resurrecting the dead) Jin didn't resurrect the dive JK did when he himself resurrected. Everyone was in ancient clothing when JK collapsed but laid there a LONG time because when Hobi appears the young trees were ANCIENT and Hobi was the only one in modern clothing after JK "rose from his long "sleep" the dove resurrected and when he went to the pond he ALSO seemed to go back to the original timeline because the trees were young again. We always knew that Jin could "time travel" but it seems JK has the most power and ultimately controls the timeline in BU eta: is this a new storyline or stand alone or will it somehow be added to BU when that storyline continues

Thank you for this DKDKTV. I have always been a fan of your ‘Explained’ series cause it really opened my eyes to korean culture and references that as a kpop fan from another country, would never have guessed or thought about. As an I-Army, the ON MV was probably the most globalized and far-reaching MV that BTS has ever put out. No matter the theories you formulate, you cannot deny that the video makes references to issues and subjects that people from all over the world can relate to (regardless of the language barrier). This is what makes me appreciate the BTS we have now. They are artists who remain true to their Korean identity but also recognize the impact they have on a global scale. And to use the MV and all of their music to bring about a message of change, self-love and identity exploration to people all over the world truly warms my heart. I’m proud to be an army. I do think the there are also references to Herman Hesse's Demian, as so much of the visuals in the ON video harken back to Blood, Sweat, and Tears (the blindfolding, the black spidering under the skin, biblical references, etc). This video is such a series finale in a sense, that combining all past symbolism from other videos seems to make sense.

You did an excellent job framing the lyrics of this song into the Jungian construct of individuation. Seriously. Really well done - especially the concept that we must undergo the pain of confronting our unconscious in order to be fully whole or fully our true selves. This is CENTRAL and absolutely crucial to an accurate understanding the Map of the Soul theory. You also did a good job of highlighting the connections between Jung’s theory and Biblical metaphors. This connection is significant because Jung was the son of a pastor in the Swiss Reformed Church so he was exposed to Biblical metaphors from a very early age. Even though he later moved away from a personal faith, he continued to see religion as an important expression of the collective unconscious. Thus, for Jung, the Bible was no longer an exclusive religious text for personal belief per se, but an insightful, classic Myth like Homer’s Odyssey or the Bhagavad Gita which gives us archetypes common to all of humanity. Two additional observations which aren’t essential to your explanation, but are still worth mentioning. (1) In the Story of the Flood, Noah sends out BOTH a raven (the bird that’s pecking at JK’s lifeless body) AND a dove. Only the dove returns with the symbol of hope - a green beach in its beak - a sign that the waters had receded enough so that trees and plants were able to take root again. (2) The music that starts at 7:00 was a little too fast-paced for me. I felt rushed listening to it, and it was hard to pay attention to your words after that. But again, that’s just personal preference. Others may not feel the same way. SO GOOD!! Really well-done - especially from an atheist. 😉

the line "find me and im gonna live with ya" has always interested me. i think its referring to a confrontation and assimilation between the self and the shadow - like in the novel "a wizard of earthsea", the only way to end the conflict with your shadow is to accept and "live with" it. so to me this line is a direct statement to the repressed elements of the self, which always pursue us hungrily (like ged's shadow being) until we face them and name them as ourselves.
