Actually the original lyrics were "I need you friend". They made "girl" so the lyrics would match the melody.

@@SurPoenya I mean, you can take it that way, but since this music video is part of BU, the lyrics aren't the main thing. and once Joon said that friend was in place of girl in the original version, I don't think that the lyrics are intended for a girl at all. it just suited the melody better.

The music video runs through BTS fictional story called the BU (Bangtan Universe). There are several music videos, webtoons, notes, games, etc that tie the story together. It’s pretty cool!

They got their first win with this award, they didn't got any respect from kpop fans and companies still now, people accused them of sajaegi (buying awards) after this, like their company didn't even had money to promote them or cast extra actors at that time their managers used to act as extras

The guys that were beating up on jungkook was big hits staff, at this time they couldnt afford actors to be in their mv. Originally it was also going to be friend instead of girl but it just didnt fit the song, but this mv goes deep, i mean really deep, you will have to find the explanation its a lot lol. I believe they were going to disband before this song came out but i think they won their first award with this song and i think this is the reason they continued to stay together as a group

While I would totally say this song represented a turning point in BTS's trajectory, I think it would be a misstatement to think BTS magically bridged out of the disrespect and ridicule stans of certain other groups were all too willing to heap on them. Attempts to impede their success continued in earnest despite BTS's rising popularity. As BTS bridged out of this Most Beautiful Moment in Life Era into the next Wings era, there literally was an organized break Wings campaign. Having to overcome hardship with quality, integrity and hard work ultimately silenced most of the negative drumbeat, though there still those willing to overtly create reasons to disregard or minimize this generational group. And BTS somehow overcomes them all.

Yes, they gained more popularity especially internationally but this is when the hate against them really sky rocketed in the kpop world. This song was also a risk for them to take as the company was in debt and this was basically the last shot they were going to give and it paid off thankfully.

although I need you is one of my favorite songs, it had been a while since I watched the video of the dance rehearsal, it really moved me to see them so young, always with the same determination and drive without even imagining that this release would be the beginning of a revolution, not only in their lives and careers, but in the history of music/pop culture, paving the way for the world to discover K-pop and its great talents. And that these 7 boys, full of desire but with insecurities, touched the hearts and changed the lives of so many people around the world, is surreal! 💜

It worked out in both ways, because when they say "I need you, friend" it actually suits the storyline even more. All 7 of them are literal soulmates who try to survive in this damned world.

Just for some background, by the time I Need U came out BTS was approaching their 2nd anniversary and had never had a Korean music show win. Their company Bighit was low on money so there was a lot of pressure that if their album didn't do well they probably would've had to disband due to lack of funds. It was a big risk doing a music video that explored darker themes, no choreography, no bright colors, but it worked. Their album The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Pt. 1 was successful and I Need U finally earned BTS their music Korean music show win and the rest is history.

BTS reigns supreme whatever anyone says. Combining music to important social topics through a storyline about youth. Only BTS. Add to it their chereos. Only BTS . Sets them far apart from other "boy groups" and kpop world. Respect!

The storyline is definitely a dark story but it also provided a great way for them to bring up some very real and serious topics. The storyline is extremely comprehensive and includes a ton of MVs, short films, books, a webtoon and even a mobile game and it's still on-going. To be honest I've never come across a more brilliantly intricate story and I can't wait for the K-drama to be released (it's currently in the making). If you want the "cheat sheet" xCeleste has made a great summary and that alone is about an hour but it's well worth it because it'll give you a whole new level of understanding of the MVs involved and appreciation for their artistry. The song and the mv don't really go together but it kind of looks like it which I think is on purpose so that people can enjoy the song/mv without delving deep into the BU. lol. This mv is part of the fictional storyline that go through their albums called the BU. It would be cool if you guys tackle that one day but you will need help/research into all the content and the order. It is very profound and heavy and you may have to rewatch some vids to watch it in order. Maybe a disclaimer that it may be triggering as it covers some heavy topics (as seen here). There is also a lot of reading or xceleste breaks it down really well in a few youtube videos as well. Or of course, enjoy it this way as well. Thanks for the reaction!

Suggest you lower your mics. The mics cover your mouths and despite my being able to hear your voices, I feel like it is muffled because we cannot see your mouths. Also, you all seem so stiff in this new set up. Other reactors use a desk or table which seems to make them more comfortable and relaxed.
