I've always said I'm okay with people not liking BTS music (as long as they give it an actually listen). But I really don't understand the constant hateful, racist, xenophobic, and homophobic comments they get from not just the general public, but from media all around the world. Then their defense is I was just joking, people are too sensitive. There are plenty of music artists music I don't like, but I don't waste my time going to their videos to make horrible comments because I know someone, somewhere that music means something to them. I've seen people wish death upon BTS just because they are Korean and they said their music was just "generic boy band music" and don't make "real music". On BTS McDondalds commercial one of the comments was well it's time to shoot up my local McDonalds all because of BTS endorsement with McDonalds and a lot of people said because of the deal they would no longer eat there. BTS are some of the most talented, kind-hearted, funny, and humble young men and they don't deserve any of the hate they get.

"There are plenty of music artists music I don't like, but I don't waste my time going to their videos to make horrible comments because I know someone, somewhere that music means something to them." You summed it up perfectly. BTS' music has done wonders for me and people I know. When I was in deep depression and felt lost, I listened to BTS and it helped me a lot. People get comfort from a lot of different artist's music. I don't listen to american hiphop artists as much but doesn't mean I'm gonna go shit on a certain hiphop artist because first they're people and second I know there are fans that might've seeked comfort in their music. I really don't know why some fans of western music think it's a problem that people seek comfort in the music of a korean artist. Let people feel what they want and listen to what they want.

Exactly. Not everyone has the same taste in music. But if you go ahead and mock them and insult them for no reason. That's where I draw the line. You can be respectful and at the same time not like the music. This unnecessary hatred and racism is what I am not okay with.

When you said you feel sorry for being late on BTS the only thing I had in mind was this frase "BTS find you in the right moment" cause as an 6 year Army I have seen many people who found BTS when they really needed. I'm glad that you decided to continue your BTS journey. I always thought this about BTS and Army "they are not just singer and fans, they are a whole movement cause they work not only for them. I found BTS back in 2015 and didn't start really listening to them until 2016. For a long time I felt bad because BTS has gone through hell and back to get to where they are and I felt I just joined them when they were popular. I felt that I was sort of a fake fan because I couldn't support them when they needed it the most. After finding some ARMY friends online, they told me the exact thing you just said. It honestly did feel like I found them at the right time. Right when I was hating myslef the most and doubtful, teenage years.

They definitely found me when I really needed them. I had just lost both my parents within months of each other and was suffering from burnout at work. My daughter had been a BTS fan for the last 4 years and this February was the first time I heard them sing. She sat me down and made me watch Life Goes On with her and that was the first time in almost a year that I truly enjoyed something. My daughter and I had BTS to bond over and we drew my husband into it as well. We have all these plans to attend a concert as soon as we safely can, even if it means flying to another country to see them💜.

bts' popularity basically is the definition of a grassroots movement, solely made by fans who discovered them by themselves, finding them on youtube randomly and spreading them by word of mouth, not by any type of company push or promotion since bts' company didn't have the funds for that type of thing back in the day. they are one of the very, very rare musicians today that rose to fame completely on their own by their talent getting spotted by fans. that's why they even said one time that armys are like their agents haha, we are the ones that found them on our own and now, we are their #1 promotional vehicle.

"why all this hate" is a really good question too because they are literally the most unproblematic celebrity of all time, not even one actual scandal in their career and they have apologized for their past ignorance from years ago so.. people have nothing to talk about to support their xenophobic (or even racist) hatred of bts so they'd rather make sht up under the guise of "jokes", that's what it is. bts just breathe and people are mad.

theyre definitely not the most unproblematic celebrities of all time and they still have plenty of scandals they have not apologised for. they obviously dont deserve the hate they get but army cant keep blindly defending them and acting like a lot of the things theyve done dont exist. i know theyve matured and they dont do things like they used to anymore which is why im still a fan but there are still people who are hurt by things they have said/done and havent received a real apology for yet and if people keep pushing the "bts are angels theyve never done anything wrong" narrative, all that does is prove that other fans dont think the fans and anyone else who have been hurt deserve an apology. like i said they do not deserve any of the things that have happened to them AT ALL, i love them with my whole heart, i have 3 bts tattoos for christ sake but you can still be a fan and hold someone accountable for their actions. you might not be aware of the things theyve said or done and thats why youre saying theyre unproblematic but yeah, they maybe arent now but there was a time when they definitely were and while i do believe theyve grown now, theres still apologies to be made and accountability to be taken.

Don’t expect them to apologize for every scandal they have and do u even know if it true or not. We armys try to treats them as human as possible we call them angels? Yes. Compare to other ppl they’re the most amazing and apologetic ppl ever. Namjoon had said that “ofc I’ve made hundreds of mistakes but yesterday me is today me” something along those lines. They’ve have never forgot what wrongs things they’ve done and they’ve never tried to cover it up compare to other celebrities. What do u mean they’re not the most unproblematic celebrities tell me one things that they’ve done wrong for the past 2-3 years that they have not apologized for or if it wasn’t bc of hate that they got it. They’re the most humble humans being in this earth. There human and there expected to make mistakes and it okay even if there not forgiven not all mistakes have to be forgivn. And if your one of of those ppl who had not gotten them yet that means it something that they did long ago and you have to remeber at that time there teenage living in Korea. Korean is very close minded compare to western culture and they grew up there. They were all teenagers when they debut except Jin he was 20-21. When we said “ there angels” they really are but we never disregard the fact that there human and it very normal to call idol an angel in the kpop industry. There’re rarely make any mistake or scandals and even tho your an army I don’t think what you’ve said is right and I think you’re been an army for a long time but maybe you really don’t invest in them that much. The video doesn’t even go into how maddening the Grammy incident was they woke up got in make up and clothes at like 3 AM South Korean time thinking that they would make some kind of short appearance at some point in the show but they didn’t, you saw the set up they had where they tweeted their reaction, they were gracious as ever, and then because they played the performance last they had to stay up the entire time waiting so because they were up since before the pre show that’s like 10hrs waiting for the performance. During the live afterwards poor jimin was so sleepy he might have dozed off a few times. But that’s so disrespectful because it’s not like they would have done that without any indication from the Grammys saying there would be some interview or something at some point. But anyways the aftermath was almost worse during their live afterwards they had two cakes prepared for them from the hotel they went to for the screening. one of them was a Grammy win cake the other one was for the Grammy nomination cake which they had out since they didn’t win. But there was a glimps of the Grammy win cake and people were making fun of them because they thought that they prepared it themselves. and all of the news articles they were making fun of them for losing and saying shit like BTS lost the Grammy like there was more articles talking about how BTS lost then there was about Beyoncé‘s historical record that she broke. As if just being nominated isn’t an honour anymore and of course their “lose” was the only one being written about. and then to add insult to injury there is the garbage pill kids disgusting World War II like caricature that they didn’t apologize for and we’re profiting off of. And then when army was mad people were playing it off like as if BTS were sore losers! they just graciously accepted the loss and even tweeted their reaction because they thought it was funny. And lol last point! Every other artist performing had a little like opening video talking about themselves their journey etc except for bts that didn’t even have enough time to preform their full song.

4:09 This was all they could afford at the time. When we say big hit was small they were super small they almost went bankrupt. Jin, The oldest member had times where he had to pay for JK (the youngest member) food. And Suga had to get like multiple part time jobs on top of going to school and training to make ends meet (he injured his shoulder during one of his part time jobs which was delivery, he was pulled under a car, and recently he got surgery to actually fix it as he had up until now been performing with that messed up shoulder). For all their albums, the members themselves did producing and writing from the very beginning of their careers not only because big hit wanted them to have that artistic freedom but also because there wasnt a lot of people that they could afford to bring on. So they did it all themselves, early on in their careers even some of their merch was designed by JK (the youngest member). Which is why Big hit is one of the more super loyal companies as the same team they had in the beginning is still the same team they are running with today. They are pretty ride or die. Even their training system was different and functioned more like a give and take situation and members had to make a lot of effort to teach themselves some things. There's a system in korea where companies / groups/artists can get government backing like some sort of investment but theirs was almost non-existent if not non-existent at all because of the financial state of the company at the time. The group was looked down upon in Korea not only because of their background but also because of the fact that they were calling out a bunch of practices and systems in the country and that infuriated more people than not. They called out the korean school system, called out parents, called out the government, the media, the bigger conglomerates, the music industry lol. They just went off infuriating everybody. So yea their growth is due to fan power and the fact that they kept that authenticity. The members still write and produce on every album but they have more money and are better established now to be able to bring more people in and the production value went up but yea back then things were tough AF. I recommend watching the rise of bangtan docu series to learn more.

Everyone else on that show was significantly older, grown adults vs his 17/8? year old self. Also all the members had to move to the capital city Seoul for the group, so usually bands have many members originally from there, while bts had 0. These fans of the other company likely thought they were being supportive of their chosen group, but it is the wrong sort of dedication. The other group members are friends with BTS and I don't hold them responsible, but will never support a management company who would do these things or encourage this behavior. BTS doesn't condone this behavior. Thank goodness ARMY doesn't back down from these attacks. You can still find the White Paper Project online and read it if you so desire. Yes I’ve always gone with my gut no matter how decent a group may be the company is still a big part of the picture and it hurts me to see fans following a corrupt ceo or management and then it backfiring on the artist in the end. I loved a Korean rock band but their company hadn’t payed them a proper salary since their debut and they ended up in a legal battle about it. It was so upsetting to watch it happen and I couldn’t do anything about it in the end.

So the two songs accused of being "misogynistic" are Boy In Luv and War of Hormone. I can see where some of the backlash may have come from Western fans for the music video Boy In Luv because they would miss some of the popular Korean tropes being played on in the acting, but the song is literally intended to be a commentary on how clueless teenage boys are when they start feeling attracted to a girl, lol. BTS now always perform Boy In Luv back to back with Boy *With* Luv to highlight their growth and majurity and their recognition of what true love is. War of Hormone got a lot of backlash from antis for the lyrics, and I honestly feel like rolling my eyes over it (as a WOMAN). Again, the song and MV is incredibly facetious, bordering on comical, and is meant to represent the hot mess that is a teenage boy at 'war' with his hormones. Hence the title. I *love* the song War of Hormone, personally. It says women are the best gift, and we're perfect front and back, head to toe. ;) I'm not going to argue with that.

I wish I could say that this was all of the hate but it's not. When the boys has an official break several years ago you wouldn't believe the shit storms that were raised when they were doing NOTHING but being normal young men enjoying their free time. It's also really hard to ignore when you're seeing the physical proof spelled out very clearly about how much they were hated for being "too good and from a small company". It's also what sets the bond between ARMY and BTS apart from other groups when fans were literally sending them basic everyday things like dishes or bedding since they were so poor. Now and again we'll see items ARMY can identify as fan gifts when they live stream or comment on it. EX: Yoongi had a pillow in his studio that he said came from a fan. At the end of the day music is subjective and we can't all like the same things but that's no reason, ever, to hate on someone for their culture, race or anything else they've suffered through. Because of their struggles, BTS are closer than most families since they really only had each other (plus Big Hit) and ARMY to support them. A lot of times people who are new only see the pretty, top of their game BTS without knowing they started from rock bottom and worked their asses off to become this monster global group. It's even worse when we almost never see this side of their story in the media with little research done on them. FFS, Good Morning America called them a new group when they performed Butter. 2 seconds on GOOGLE can tell you they've been around since 2013 and yet we're still relying on media to give an unbiased story.

Every time you pause the video in disbelief, same. I’m glad you’re getting know them and their music. I remember the whole network news employees breaking into the BH building, because they were trying to look for evidence or documents to support a lawsuit story they came up with. That network aired this report after BTS won all four grand prize awards (Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, etc.) at the MMAs. Seemed suspect and strategic, imo. But it was funny how BH letter mentioned that they saw their video, but they also have their own security video of them breaking in, then after a week the longtime news anchor had to apologize, which wasn’t a real apology if you know what I mean. BTS didn’t succeed by the power that institutions had and I guess that scared them. Same in America, the music and entertainment industry like to think they have power and gate keep who or what gets played or get attention. For the longest time, media kept pigeonholing them by just keeping stereotypes in their narrative about them. They can ask popular artists about their songwriting, producing, etc. BTS, “What’s your favorite color? What’s your favorite english word?” Why aren’t they talking about their music and their artistry? It’s only recently that I noticed… like maybe Fall 2020 they seem to be getting some (not all) better interviews by *gasp* doing more research and didn’t just BS about it.

I'm 51 a very proud ARMY. I've just discovered your channel. This is the reason why ARMY is so protective over them (not justify to be rude with new reactors). The fact is that ARMY is constantly I mean all the time fighting, defending BTS from ignorant, racist people. For example lately a journalist Tom Breihan from"Stereogum " said BTS doesn't deserve Billboard #1 accusing BTS and ARMY of Making Charts Useless. BRYAN Rolli from FORBES wrote another article saying that" BTS'S AREN'T RUINING THE BILLBOARD CHARTS. THEY WERE ALREADY BROKEN" Personally I don't understand all this hate BTS are not only amazing singers, writers, producers, performers, they're I wonderful human beings, we call them OUR 7 ANGELS because they heal people and safe lives everyday around the world through their music and their personalities (that's a fact). Thousands of people who have been trying to commit suicide, didn't , thanks to BTS. They are good people. Let's be honest nowadays BTS is the best influence for our new generation. I became ARMY during my lowest point in life. It is their songs that I turn to when I can't stop crying. It's their symbols that I have tattooed on my wrist as a reminder to love and care for myself. There are so many ARMY that feel the same way. They aren't just a band to most of us. They are our comfort and safe space. You know, watching this again with you made me really wish that there was a video on ARMY's struggles. For instance, right now, ARMY on Twitter are being harassed and having their accounts suspended left right and center. Young girls are being accosted on the streets for wearing BTS merch. It's so sick. I just don't understand why people get so upset with others finding enjoyment in a band, especially one that stands for so much good. I also wanted to say that I loved your reaction. Most reactors are so obviously fake. I loved that you showed emotion, and actually took the time to think through your responses.

Honestly, I've watched this video before and watching along with you again had me in tears. It truly does sometimes feel like it's the World against BTS and Army and it hurts to have to struggle to achieve what we can. But it also makes me proud of how strong we are. Also it may not mean much but I'm really proud of how far you've come in your perspective and thank you so much for being open-minded enough to let yourself understand. I really appreciate all your reactions, even the beginning ones, and being able to see your evolution. Amazing job.

The whole lyric thing that people starting to attack him about really weren’t even remotely bad IMO. The song is called “war of hormones,” so basically the song talks about as young men how girls can make them feel with the simplest looks or how they walk.. like one of the lyrics is him saying “I’m 18 I know everything I need to know about girls” and one of them said he would get shot down by a girl and go home and “burst my pimple,” lol like everything they said about them was so not bad and the only couple questionable songs would be “boy in luv” and “war of hormones,” which the title is “boy in LUV,” and to me that signifies young, and then “war of hormones” is really making fun of boys and how they feel as young teens … they really put so much into their music , the lyrics and concepts and they’re extremely respectful, loving and humble… which make it so much more difficult to understand.. they’re all about that positivity, healing and love.. and even in their older songs that were the kinda bad boy vibe… but the actual words and messages on the song are uplifting or like telling you to get off your butt and make a change or not to give up hope and self love is a MAJOR theme for BTS which I never expected those earlier songs to actually be inspiring lol but we love these guys and I’m glad you’re getting a better understanding of why they’re so loved and respected. Nobody should have hated on you regardless and I promise you that being an ARMY would never spread hatred .. bc we want to be fans they can feel proud of.. we want to help spread their music and message so other people can see what we see… and how special they are. Glad to have you along the journey.. you’re gonna love it and will almost always fill your heart and day with love, happiness and hope! 💜

If you're ever interested in seeing their journey in depth, I recommend the series "The Rise of Bangtan" It was created by armys in such a way that it feels like a legitimate documentary. It's done in chapters. Even if you don't react to it on your channel, it's worth the watch to REALLY see their personalities, relationship, and the work they've put in. It also touches on the idol music industry a bit too.

Hi. I've been watching your BTS videos. I'm glad you took the time to check out their background. I'm sorry if people attacked you. We try to remind ARMYs to be patient. Not to excuse them but being an army means you encounter hate daily. So it's a threshold level of when people encounter certain triggering things. I agree that countering hate with hate gets nowhere. We get a lot of trolls targeting our community so in case you are thinking of coming (of course you're welcome btw!!) be prepared to encounter the worst. It sounds dramatic but this video is the tip of the iceberg. I didn't believe the craziness until I saw it happening myself and I was so sickened. Whatever the worse you can imagine, the haters surpass that all the time. But we try to give them 100x more love than the hate they receive. Despite what media portrays, ARMY is a good community. You seem to have had a heavy day so I hope it's looking better. Thanks again for taking the time to learn more about them. Enjoy your journey!

Thank you for reacting to this video. And I'm glad it helped you understand better about the very defensive and even toxic ARMY. There are those that do go to far. But yes all of us ARMY will and do defend our boys for good reason. This video makes me so sad that still even in 2021 BTS still receives so much hate and negativity. If they don't like them or their music that's fine, don't listen to them. But there is no reason to attack them and make things up about them or try to destroy them. That German radio host was so angry about them covering Fix You by Coldplay, but he had no reason to be. One, they did a beautiful job, you should react to it, lol. And two, Coldplay themselves Tweeted that it was beautiful. All of this going on and being done to BTS and they are still the most humble, grateful, positive, genuine, giving group of young men I have ever seen. They are worth billions but you would never know it. And they love ARMY beyond measure and they thank us for every achievement they make and every award or appearance they get. This is why they have an ARMY and probably will for a very very long time. Thank you again and thank you for continuing your journey. We will be here to help you along the way 💜💜💜

I am American and new Army, too. You only have to watch one or two interviews (from well known celebrity interviewers like Ellen) and you will see that, because the other members do not speak English, the interviewers pretty much act like RM is the only person in the room, ignoring everyone else (notable exceptions are Jimmy Fallon and James Corden). And don’t even get me started on the GMA video before they broadcasted the Butter performance or the Stereogum article. I try to keep an open mind and an optimistic heart, but if you re-listen or re-read and simply replace “BTS” with the name of a western artist (like Lizzo or Dua Lipa), the skewed context comes through loud and clear. For example, on the GMA broadcast, just image if, when introducing the new Olivia Rodrigo song, they spend the entire lead in piece explaining the history of rock/pop and then just play her song…

@@lela1002 Celeste really brushed over the PlagiarismBoys hashtag that trended. It was incredibly hurtful to Armys and caused us a lot of hurt (and to BTS, too). I recommend reading up more on that. Another hurtful incident was when they won their first daesang. Other fandoms spent MONTHS calling Melon and asking for "clarification" Because there was NO WAY Bts could have beat _____ and gotten the daesang (although BTS did have good sales). It sucked because it should have been a special moment for us, but Armys were spending time arguing with haters on twitter. They call us toxic, but man, Armys have never pulled the shit that these other fandoms have (I've been an Army for six years). And I'm only halfway through the video, so I don't know if she goes into it, but look up the Jimin shirt scandal, too. We got a lot of hate for that, but it honestly wasn't that big of a deal. It was antis from other fandoms trying to get Jimin/BTS in trouble.

a lot of major things were covered but theres so much more not even covered by this video. armys have a saying its bts and armys vs the world because majority of the time it is. armys are attacked daily on Twitter and other social medias for no reason most of the time. other times trolls make fake army accounts tweet or comment vile things and then people attack the troll and instead of realizing its a troll they attack bts and armys as a whole. like when a celebrity dies fake accounts that have bts as their profile picture the accounts are clearly trolls and will tweet that the celebrity deserves to die. then people will attack bts because they think its real armys saying those things. and most of the time thr attacks against bts are racist or xenophobic and then later its revealed that the troll was a bts anti who set them up on purpose. this happens daily. armys are seen as the most hated and toxic fandom because of trolls and because we call out people for hating in bts. example someone on Twitter will say something vile about bts and then when armys start going at them they say were sensitive were overreacting "all of this over korean guys who dont know you" "omg they found me" as if they didnt mention bts first. like go check the comments under any post about bts youll find someone hating for no reason. we dont get along with ANY fandom. kpop fandoms hate us and so do western artists fandoms. so yeah it really feels like its us against the world but we still continue to support bts because they deserve every bit of success theyve gotten and will continue to get.

They’re extremely special and they’ve been through hell… there’s been so much pain and hurt and bc bts came from a small company they have been through it. I get what you’re saying about saying things looked feminine or just certain words that we as army are sensitive too… so growing together as a group is what bts has always wanted. The big 3 and kind of power they have in Korea is nothing like here in the Us… it’s definitely good to learn a bit about kpop just to see how different it really is

Thank you so much for your great reaction. You know, the first time I saw you reacting to BTS, I was sad about some of the comments you made because you reminded me of all the prejudices I had before knowing BTS. Maybe it was the society I was used to, where sometimes you grow up with specific standards and values, so you think that you are always right. In reality, I could not be more wrong! But after knowing BTS, I understood their messages and witnessed what they have gone and still are going through today. Anyway, I knew that if you were going to get to know them and their music you would understand and I think you are starting to appreciate them, which makes me very happy. Personally, BTS changed my life; they made me a better and stronger person who is not afraid to speak against racism and bullism anymore. I keep fighting against all kinds of prejudices and injustices because this is the person I want to be and the values that I would like to pass to my kids one day. I am a proud Army now, and I could not be happier. So thank you again for giving our boys a chance!

Their story touched my heart & the fact that they are so kind, humble, & hard working it hurts to know that they have faced so much hate, unfairness, that they did not deserve. So, I hope you understand why fans are so sensitive about what people say about them.
