Ill never understand the statement “I miss old bangtan” tbh.. those people realize they grew up? They changed? Like they’re still the same 7 boys from Korea with the same dreams from 6-7 years ago, but honestly have they not listened to a damn thing they’ve said? Personal preference is fine as long as you acknowledge their growth as human beings. I feel their music has been their best friends throughout the years and it’s grown with them.. as it should. Why would anyone be selfish and want their fave artists to stay the same? Never looking for new creative ways to express themselves? Why? This album was the most raw and personal they’ve ever been in an album... it shows who they are as a group and individuals AND as a group with army. Like they’ve not once been greedy and selfish and arrogant about their level of fame. At all. Their fears and everything have been laid out and said from them.. how can anyone miss what they’ve been saying?? Don’t like their music choices? Then find something you like instead is putting them down for growing up. Someone literally unstanned because of this song and claimed they’re becoming American now.. they also miss old bangtan. Apparently everyone who misses “old bangtan” has not seen they’re still the same guys behind their music. They never left. Anyways, love when Paul is with you, his mind is absolutely amazing when he analyzes things.. so good to see you Paul! Anthony keep doing what you’re doing, sending so much love and support to both of you 🤟🏼🥺

OKAY OKAY wait. I thought I agreed with the reply but I didn't. I can't MISS OLD BTS????? Like Danger/No More Dream/Etc was way more my style of music BUT if we take Boy With Luv I LOVE BTS but BWL was not my jam. There was a lot other songs on Persona that I loved, but as title track BWL was not close with what I like. Did I still recognize it was good for the genre they were going for? YES. But I love ON way more than BWL. BTS is it's own genre in a way because they can hit those old vibes without completing giving up that the fact they are moving on and growing up. I LOVEEEEEEE Boy IN Luv more than BWL, but that doesn't mean I don't understand they are growing and with growth they are experiencing. AND IM HERE FOR THE EXPERIENCE. Fuck you and everyone else who says I'm not allowed to miss then while still being allowed to experience new things. COME FOR ME. I D C.

yes i agree. i can see people saying "sO i cant miss old bts?!". ofc u can miss them. ofc u can miss their old music. people change. people's music taste changes. trends in music changes. everyone grows older. everyone leaves something in the past. i wouldnt say that there is 'an old bts' or 'a new bts' tho. yes. they maybe dont make the same kind of music they did like 5 years ago, but thats just the way life is. even tho its been years since debut, u can still see how they bring a lil bit of old school bts vibes in to some of their songs. when people say "i miss old bts" some might mean they miss the way they acted or how their personalities were. i think that's just fcked up. u wouldnt say sht like that to someone u know. how would that even feel for them to hear "i miss how u were back then". that just makes it seem like u dont like the way the person is right now. we live the year 2020 now. we dont live the year 2015 or 2028. we should appreciate people for how they are right now at this moment. i do get people tho when they say they miss bts' old music. i would my self want to hear music like that from them again. but we just have to accept the fact that they aint doing sht the way other people want for them to do. they shouldnt do what other people wants for them to do. and no one shouldnt think like "well ive always done it like that so i should keep doing it like that" bc that way u will never experience new sht in life. that way u wouldnt have the ability to explore the world more. explore urself more

@Phillip Leite Honestly in the context of the album this song makes complete sense as the title track due to the point in the album's journey it represents, even if it's not necessarily the best song. Same with BWL because of the link back to their earlier albums. If you look at songs like Black Swan and Dionysus though it's not Americanised at all. BTS is experimenting with different genres and styles, some songs may come across as more "Western" but they've never released a song I didn't like. I love the old school BTS music but they're incorporating that into new concepts and I love it.

@@lilyoongi146 just bc they're popular now doesn't make their music any less genuine, they put their all into every single song u can miss ur old bts, but if u can't love them now through all their growth as PEOPLE feel free to unseat, they'll never go back to their 'old' music they'll never go back to the music they're doing now bc they change, the experiment. Nothing wrong with having preferences, but some of u completely disregard how hard they're working NOW too

PM's perspective is so dope. he's literally the first person whose reaction I've watched where he pinpointed that line. I think it's definitely to stay mentally sane in this world it helps to do something unique once in awhile. This whole comeback is unique because BTS is going everything new from the drumline to the choreography which reminded me of stomp the yard and also the lyrics to being in a prison but being there willing to break free.

Love coming here and hearing genuine perspectives. Its interesting how PM interpreted RMs line as a more day to day tendancy to 'go insane', the term usually makes people think in extremes rather than these daily occurrences. This perspective is refreshing especially because their music is meant to be read both as their narrative and ours. Each of us has our own experiences that alter our introductory thoughts. + when i read the lyrics i took it similarly, we have to find outlets for our 'abnormal' wants and needs in order to externally be seen as normal. I'm interested to see how others express this, could be a physical object, action, or interaction. (I make art but it isnt yet my outlet, I sing (terribly, honestly it makes spring day sound like screamo) very loud in my car)

I really don't understand when people say " i like their old style" because i feel like each album is very different than the other, like sure the message is one but the sound is never the same, and that is one thing that makes them stand out to me. tbh i would get bored if all the songs sounded the same, so I hope that they keep experimenting with their music and overall style.

I absolutely LOVE Paul's interpretation of this one line because I actually didn't have an explanation/understanding of this line as a whole, for his meaning. Thank you for this perspective! As for BTS being different in this album (sound-wise), it's always like that. They keep experimenting every comeback, they explore new genres, incorporate these genres in their own sound to create something new. They never did what they did here like they never did what they did with LY:Her or Wings, etc. They won't recycle their old stuff, they will renew themselves as artists. Especially with this comeback because they are doing the whole CONNECT: BTS, focusing on artistry and catharsis, and their purpose as artists. They could /lose/ themselves because of their fame, stay stagnant as artists and decide not to do something new, etc. But they won't and don't do that because that's just not BTS; they follow their own path. With the pressure from everyone around the world, literally, whether it comes from fans' expectations (and how to keep these fans), media, the industry, the haters... it's a lot, but they still decide to put their work first as well as themselves by going deeper everytime.

Pop music was never my favorite style, almost all the songs chosen to be the main track do not make my style, but when you hear the album as a whole it makes sense to me that these tracks are there. do i miss their old style? for sure. Was this album a shock? true too. when you don’t have such an eclectic musical taste it’s hard to like it at first, but over time the songs will increase in importance, mainly due to the meaning of the lyrics. My problem is that I met them at the end of 2016. I listened in one year to all the old hip hop discography, with lyrics and heavy concepts and my first comeback was DNA! To say that I was confused is not even close to expressing how I felt. I didn't "grow up" with them, one day I was watching videos of no more dream and the other day of blood sweat and tears. I think they are impressive artists but I know that the day will come when some of their music will be out of my playlists. a big problem is the large amount of information, if 2017 for me was a constant headache trying to understand everything that was happening I can't even imagine for who is meeting them now. I understand that with such an artistic work it is important to try and innovate, but it is also necessary to understand that not everything will resonate in the same way in all people.

PM's perspective is amazing and it is why I'm an advocate for art and recreational therapy. But for me, I have a bad leg and BTS, KPOP and art have all been a part of my healing and rehabilitation process since I incurred my injury back in 2015. It's 2020 Kookie's part came in, I broke down in tears because it hit me so hard. Their music and so many others has willed me, to be strong and not let my pain take over me. It's 2020 I can't tell you how incredibly powerful, to hear someone else say that! It's very inspirational and I get up everyday in pain but I refuse to let my day stay painful. This helps, so much. And in case you don't know, I💜 both of you very much!!! I look forward to PM's reaction to UGH!!! Anthony's was so funny!!!

That part 'insane to stay sane' also resonated with me, sometimes you have to veer off the easy/expected road just to tide yourself over, or just to live and be happy. 💜💜💜💜💜💜 It's like BTS choosing to becoming idols, when they could have been other things, idols lead a hard life, and there is so little chance of success. I bet someone told them that being an idol is crazy, but they chose it because this is what makes them happy. It's the same with their choices as an artist, they don't choose safe choices, they don't choose safe songs. They take risks and that's crazy. But that's how they kept themselves sane in the entertainment world that's pretty cutthroat.

Extra 👍🏿👍🏿 to Paul. 1. You lookin great. Glad to see you on the reactions again 2. I freaking love the "insane to stay sane" line and totally agree with what you said about it. You articulated it exactly how I understood it.

ok, I can relate to the going insane to be sane part. Like sometimes you aren't right so you have to fall apart or "go insane" and completely lose yourself and then put yourself back together the right way.

I'm so surprised to hear that people weren't into the song and album. I'm in love with it myself. Also, this was actually an official music video (BigHit confirmed it last week), but there is indeed a second official video coming out next week that doesn't have a special name like this one did.

They are breaking barriers in the music industry, it’s always theme oriented..it’s map of the soul theories played out. Learn what the song is about and the metaphors...then this is a solid 10. Army understands how evolved they are...but outside looking in, if you don’t educate yourself on bts history, you wouldn’t get it.

I was like this the whole time 🙀👀 then ☠️toward the end, I couldn’t explain it at all I had no words it literally gives me N.O and We On with Not Today vibes. They definitely didn’t come to play, once I heard it I knew it was the title track with the rest are playing the drums behind Suga and our man Jin front & center. I did notice Jin wasn’t part of the dance break b/c he said it was very difficult for him which is perfectly fine & understandable, he has been doing so great along with RM and Suga with their dancing; i’m overly proud of their improvement 😵😻 I know nobody wants to think about it but since Jin, V & JungKook will start standing out more because V & JK will have to carry the responsible of BTS name when the time comes having to send off their hyungs one by one unless they all decide to enlist at the same time which i pray doesn’t happen; i’m not 100% on how that would work since they haven’t started their solo debuts yet which is concerning me the closer it’s getting to enlistment. *The more I listen to the song with lyrics and many have their theories but I think what theyre basically saying is no matter what negativity & challenges comes their way they’ll be together when they say “Bring it, Bring the pain”, I wish every kpop artist had BTS / Namjoon’s mindset b/c there would’ve been less disbandments and no members leaving their groups. 👍🏽 I’m so proud of their improvement and the backup dancers I found maybe representing the ARMY 💪🏽 which is saying that the fans & BTS have each other’s back and they are willing to go out of their way to help each other & others to get through the hardship. The more I watch the video I’ve realized they’ve mixed allot of their previous choreography with this new choreography, there’s so much symbolism going on within their dancing including the fake tattoos on Taehyung’s face & neck!

although I'm half half indifferent with the 2nd half of the album, I'm not bothered by it? BTS seems to be always changing things up and learning from their past experiments as artist. If anything, them constantly changing give me confidence to always look forward to their next album.

Maybe nobody said it but everyone thought about it, I am sure, It just wasn't something everyone would say. It is wonderful to say the fact that so many people will say that it wasn't the same because they want to grow. Let them do their thing.
