This is the reason why I'm a fan of BTS. Their album has a story line and connected to real life situations wherein we can get a lesson specifically on mental depression/anxiety, love yourself and etc.

In fact, as RM said, this song was originally written about friendship, instead of the word "girl" there should have been the word "friend", but purely from working moments (the word did not fit the rhythm, sound) it was replaced by "girl", and if you think about it that way, the song gets a completely different meaning, although this meaning is already visible in the MV.

5:47 Almost all of their stuff before 2015 were really dark and deeply meaningful, and their music was a bit different too.

lyrics: ''I need you girl💖💫" mv: *murder, suicide, arson, mental illnesses, domestic abuse* this is part of the BU storyline so I think it's hard to decipher what really goes on behind it but yeah it shows many "dark sides'' of life and how tough it is entering adulthood thus the lollipop turning into a cigarette.

if I’m not wrong, to put it simply - they were miserable when they were apart but when they were together, they are happy so they needed each other ok, that’s my simple explanation but I’m sure there’s a much deeper explanation

honestly hyyh era is soooo craaazyyy glad we will have hyyh pt 3 on 2025 but i think it will not be as dark as hyyh pt 1 and pt 2 i think the hyyh pt 3 will be the moving on or adulthood era since the pt 1 and pt 2 is about teenage ++ they're adult now

Ummm....only 25% of BTS fans are under the age of 18 NOW. The fandom skews much older than you think. I am older and I didn't become ARMY until 2020, but I believe that the reason BTS got big early, and blew up when THIS album released, was because the younger generations related to it and loved it. I don't know why the youth of today would relate to it any less, and it's WAY better than a lot of the music of today, lyrics-wise. It has substance. "I Need You" is the song that won BTS their first music show win in Korea. As for your playlist, if you're going to limit BTS songs because you already have BTS songs on the list, why even have the list? BTS is the biggest group in the world because they have great (much of which are "the best") music, but sure, let's not include a BTS song to make room for songs that aren't as good. "It's not fair" is exactly what k-poppies have said for the entire time since BTS debuted. There were literally fans of groups whining LAST WEEK because BTS and the individual members are still winning Daesangs and Bonsangs in the current award season, even though they are on hiatus and in the military. It's a dumb way to think. Not including a darker, sadder song because you want the playlist to be upbeat is a valid reason.

This MV is part of the BTS's BU(Bangtan Universe) storyline. If you want to learn more about this storyline you should watch the MVs in order or you could watch xCeleste explanation on the BTS storyline it is on her channel. Would be happy if you react to it.

Yeah, the storyline is surprisingly dark but it's also mindblowingly poetic. 💜

If you know more about the context of each members in this mv it'll get much more darker RM as Namjoon - get disrespect while working and later get on a fight that lead to got him in jail Jin as Seokjin - seen everyone get hurt (can't tell much about him😅) Suga as Yoongi - burn the room and himself J-Hope as Hoseok - take too much med and end up in hospital Jimin as Jimin - drown himself in that bathtub V as Taehyung - stab his father and got arrest Jungkook as Jungkook - after he got beat up, he jump of the building all are base on storyline of BTS (they use their real name as the charaters) or BU (BTS universe) and i can't say much because it'll ruin the experience when you guys react to later BU contents which i highly recommend to. i believe the next content you should watch after "I NEED YOU" is "화양연화 on stage : prologue" then "RUN" btw thank you for the reaction !! 💜

This is part of the BU (Bangtan Universe) story. It's a fictional storyline that runs through about 30 of their music videos, their webtoon, online game, notes included in albums, and a couple of books. It's deep, emotional, and complicated. OLD BTS ERA WAS SOMETHING DARK AND REALISTIC . THEY WERE REALLY INTO DARKER THEMES , SOCIETAL PRESSURES , TEEN PROBLEMS ETC.

It’s all part of a storyline. Their most recent music is a brighter because it’s the “end” to their storyline.

I think the best thing about BTS music is that it’s always about their OWN experiences and feelings and they are able to make soooo relatable with their lyrics. They write about what they were going through or had gone through. It makes the music so much more sincere and comforting. They never left hip-hop, they are always telling their own stories in their music.

You guys are finally in the HYYH era, it’s honesty so great. HYYH is one of my fav BTS era’s. There are multiple videos and it follows a storyline. Hyyh albums were their breakout era in korea. The storylime in these BU music videos are supposed to immortalise the songs. The songs in the album and the video story are all about youth and their troubles. There is an upcoming drama based on this storyline. Its called "begins YOUTH". The original storyline uses bts names but for different reasons they have changed the names of the characters to bts's chakho webtoon character names. Its supposed to release soon.

If you want to understand BTS story line U have to react their music videos and short videos line vise as they released. So will understand it better.😊

The HYYH era had a deep storyline and each member has their own backstory. Backstories: RM lived in poverty and worked at that gas station. His home was an actual shipping container. Jin is more or less a time traveler who has traveled back in time multiple times to keep the rest of the boys alive because, in many of the music videos, it's insinuated that one or more of the members die. Suga had a girlfriend but they broke up because of Suga’s short temper and smoking addiction. He also had depression. That's why he set the motel room on fire. He attempted suicide. (he actually attempted suicide IRL but Jin stopped and saved him. Suga overcame his depression IRL too). J-Hope was forced to take medications he didn't need as a child by his parents. As a result, he developed a lot of disorders and he became addicted to the medications he was forced to take as a child. Jimin had a girl he was fond of. She danced with him, but one day, he made a mistake and she fell and hit her head pretty hard. He tried to help her, but she was out cold because she was bleeding from her head. J-Hope rushed her out of the studio to the hospital while Jimin went to the bathroom to wash off the blood. After that, he grabbed an umbrella and chased after the other two but stopped when he realized he couldn't do anything. V came from a family with an abusive father who killed his mom. After she died, the father kept on beating him and his older sister. V did his best to protect his sister, but she was being beaten whenever he wasn't home. (I forgot Jungkook’s backstory. Sorry).

This whole thing of “missing old BTS” is so strange to me. For starters, if bts continued with the same sound and themes, would that not get boring? I guarantee people would call bts a one trick pony if they continued as such. But also, with every other year that passes people keep talking about the “old bts”, but it’s always a different era. Old bts used to reference their school trilogy. Then d&w was part of “old bts”. Then wings was part of it etc., etc. The point is: bts has always evolved with each album. And because of this, you can’t really say there was an old bts musically.

i get what you’re saying but like the comment above mine said, saying u miss “old bts” is weird. their songs are still there, go listen to them if you miss them that bad. they haven’t gone anywhere. but yes, bts experiments. they move around and do new things bc that’s their way of showcasing their talents don’t lie in just one area but multiple. as a “fan” … you should know that. old bts isn’t any better than recent bts. the only thing that’s changed is their age & maturity level. their talent remains the same. to the other person’s point, if they made the same kinda music over and over again, that wouldn’t be too appealing. you know they have many genres of music , right? there are MANY bts eras. hyyh era was amazing but there’s also BE, love yourself, wings, youth, etc. there should be no comparison from them then to them now. simple as that. and to say their songs now are “nothing” is extremely insulting. wtf did u mean by that? 🤨

Welcome to the BU. The Bangtan Universe. There is all sorts of info out there, but I think XCeleste does a really good job of explaining the BU. FYI, the suicide rate among S Korean youth was at or near the highest rate in the world. This song set up the storyline that goes through many albums. Jin holds the primary role as the story continues, and it is worth diving into. Many KPop groups have a story, or lore, that they carry through their albums, but I haven't seen any this realistic and dark. The dance practice and live performance of this song is worth checking out. Thanks for sharing your reaction.
