BSA Goldstar vs Moto Guzzi V7ii | Why DID I Switch? | Pros and Cons |

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Quite a few of you were in shock when I sold my pretty Moto Guzzi V7ii Special and changed to a new and relatively market untested BSA. So you may have seen my introductory videos on the BSA and wondered why. Well, wonder no more as I set out my own thoughts on these two machines and ultimately tell you why I did it.

You are comparing a new BSA against an older Guzzi. I have a new V7 and it is doing 62 to 67 mpg every trip. The Guzzi is quite a little more in cost too mine was £8600 so a bit more than the BSA. I don’t think you can compare these 2 fairly really. I’ve no problem with either bike, it would be a boring old world if we all liked the same things but I think the Guzzi is a Triumph competitor and the BSA an Enfield competitor. I would also say the BSA is a modern bike made to look retro whilst the Guzzi is a developed unit over many years. But we all entitled to our opinions

Pretty much spot on there. New Guzzis are much more in the Triumph T100 ballpark, which is a point I make in the video.

Guzzi is authentic ...and it doesn't have that Morris Minor slab of a radiator hanging off it.

I have a 2016 V7ii and fitted a Finebau Forge fuel compensator which sorted out the low speed fuelling issues. There are also remaps available which might be easier to use but weren't available when I got mine. Agree about servicing, dead easy, valve clearances done in half an hour. The only pain is three different oils for engine, gearbox, bevel drive. Paint is difficult to get get for most bikes from the manufacturer. Try RS paints if you are unfortunate again, or get a body shop to scan it.

I ride a 113000mile CB500 everyday in everything except snow and ice, I need reliability ,simple servicing, economy and good spares back up. I also have a 1978 T140 Tiger that I’ve had for 30yrs, she was also well used but is a toy now, goes out on dry days, is looked after and I just love the way she looks. These two really fit into the toy category so just pick the one you like the look of👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

In my experience shaft drive is a joy to live with, while chain drive is a pain in the backside, so it's not a switch I would have made. But if it makes you happy, you have made the right choice (although I'll bet you miss a center stand when you have to service that chain).

Nice one Andy ! If we could have an infinite number of bikes, I am sure that most of us would ! That way we'd never have to sell any of them. At some point though, you do have to optimise things and if the BSA suddenly appealed to you more than the Guzzi, it's understandable that you made the change. I did like the Guzzi personally and I'm still unsure about the future of the revived BSA brand but you have to go with your instinct and you did. I hope it works out well for you and will be interested to see how long term ownership of the BSA pans out. Cheers Andy, Garry

@@CornishMotorcycleDiaries Hi Andy, Other Bods' Dogs featuring Chili was supposed to be a part of tonight's video but tonight's video ended up being 25 minutes long anyway, so I've decided to add OBD to a shorter video which I may have at some point in the future 🙂 Say hi to Chili from Ruby and me ! I often wonder why (OEM) bike manufacturers don't have well-designed & colourful tank covers available as an optional extra; they're typically an after-market item produced by specialist firms. They protect the paint from normal wear & tear and more injurious impact incidents, as you've discovered. I have a couple (they cover up awful color schemes too). You could even design & make your own, relying on basic sewing skills; chat nicely with your significant other! And lest we forget, these bikes also need at least a bikini firing for reduced drag & enhanced rider comfort - getting out of that cold wet air flow etc. Ask the man (or woman) who employs one!

Thanks for this, as I was wondering what made you change to the BSA, as that Guzzi was a lovely looking bike. I've been trying to decide between the two, and I'm leaning towards the BSA at the moment. But I do love the Guzzi heritage, so who knows what I'll end up with?

I.ve had both. See comment above. I hope the guzzis have improved reliability, but I would say whichever you are most comfy on and like looking at as very similar riding wise. Try them both. Obvious I know 😂

I have owned a GoldStar for just a year and love it and it's proved very reliable. I find it difficult to compare any single to a twin, triple or four they are so different each having a different character. Mentioning dealers BSA had a fabulous dealer in West Lancashire but he got frustrated with the way they dealt, the spares availability and other problems so no longer sells new bikes. This means in the whole of North West England thre isn't a dealer, very poor state of affairs

I used to run a V50 Guzzi which broke down electrically usually so often, so I got a MotoMorini inline V instead. Still electrical issues and a fire in the wiring loom. So I bought another V, a Honda CX500...thousands of miles issue free. I always dreamed of the Honda engine and electrics in the Guzzi frame, that would be the best of both. I keep looking at the new Guzzis but the memories of miserable times at the side of busy roads with a dead or dying bike will always put me off I think, pity.

Kind of dumb to compare the V50, a 1980's bike, to any modern bike or use it as an example of the manufacturer's reliability. I've had a 2009 V7 for nearly 5 years. Nothing has ever gone wrong, servicing is very simple, shaft drive makes it even easier & cleaner to own & run. I'm sure there are a variety of owners experiences, as for any bike. I have 11 bikes. The last one I sell will be the Guzzi

I.ve had guzzi v7. I liked it but it was a disaster for reliability. I cant be bothered listing the faults . Major though. Bsa i really like. Had the engine cut out a few times going down the box. I hear thats a software thing. But i can live with that. The guzzi was engine out at 4wk old. Only the start of the problems. Shame. I still like guzzi.s but i won.t be getting another. Oh and i had an 1100 sport and had to be trailered home on that. Electronics failure of some sort.

Pretty sure the cheapest new V7 Stone is listed at £8,200 on the MG UK website, and the cheapest BSA is the Highland Green or Shadow Black at £5,999. So the V7 is over £2k more than the BSA, which is a lot of cash.

@@jerrywines382Not only is it a lot of cash, the general built quality and equipment isn't better either. You would expect the Guzzi to have Triumph levels as they are price bracket equivalent but yet it's questionable at best. I had a long term test of the Guzzi and wasn't convinced.
