and nice to meet you Paul, thanks for introducing yourself.
Had a new big end fitted in my C15 by a well known company near Derby. My mechanic is new he told me and had some trouble getting things lined up. It looked like it had been thrown off the top of Blackpool tower when he handed it over. It must be great to be a competent machinist with your own workshop. Thanks for your excellent video entertainment.

My pleasure Steve, glad you enjoyed it and sorry to hear of your experience of poor workmanship on your crank, that's why I try and do as much as myself as I can.
Epic as Always 👌

Glad you enjoyed it.
It always surprises me that the straightened crankshaft doesn't get knocked out of true with all the engine movement, torque and vibration! Good to see how it's done!

I was hoping for the "PEANUUUUUUUUUUUUUTS" advert from the cinema. I know I saw it on yootoob somewhere.

There is a rich seam to investigate.......unfortunately the advert for the Camberley tandoori on London Road won't be on youtube
That's the thing about really good press fits - they are not gentle, fragile things. They take a LOT of persuading to move. But - at least once trued in you know they will stay there. Worth the effort to get there for sure. Frustrating and satisfying all at once. Cheers!
Coltec in East Suffolk did my crank assembly. Immaculate job and not too expensive - i would use them again any day

Always good to have recommendations for excellent service Thomas.
Nice to see a bit of lathe work. Yours is nice and quiet too. Do the grooves in the bushings act as oil supply? It's a bit minimal isn't it. Think I would dremel in a little oil catch scoop into the upper surface to encourage oil down into the Bush.
@TweedsGarage

Hi Chris, the gears sit in oil and there's plenty thrown around the gearbox ( to the point that it travels up drillings to lubricate the main crank bearings ), the groove on the outside face of the bearing faces upwards so oil runs down and around the shaft. They are probably there for when everything was new and a bit tight. Glad you enjoy the lathe work, there's normally a bit on most of my videos
What, apart from causing trouble, is Jenkins studying? That hydraulic press you bought has been very useful, not sure how it could be done without it. Thanks for the video.

Apparently he's studying the form...i don't think it's the horses, more likely Beryl Brown at number 42. The press keeps on giving as it was used for bodywork forming on the Riley ( to be seen in a future feature ).
I have a confession... When I see a man with your abilities, talent, and technical know-how reduced to beating the death out of something on the shed floor... I get a little too much joy out of it.. Sorry. (FYI.. Employees always say they've learned their lesson but it's best to keep them walled in for an extra day or two, just to be sure.) Cheers

@@TweedsGarage Unfortunately that's me and I am off sick at the moment so I can't go get more! Your film has inspired me though to work out what I need for my Velocette and look at doing an order from the UK spares. I was hoping not to have to touch the big ends but I definitely have play there I should address. Plus I need new barrels, pistons, heads, etc, etc, etc.

Welcome to Bantam crank world, you are right to point out the differences between modern two stroke cranks. I thought you did really well, you shouldn't have any issues with the readings you achieved. Thanks for the mention, Old Chap. Best wishes, Dean.

Good one Allan! I see the hydraulic press is being put to good use, I think a club hammer and copper drift would have been used back in the 60s, so much nicer when you can get a controlled press fit, and using the back stop spacer makes it even better, that jump when you overcome the interference makes it difficult to end up where you want to be. Stay safe! Chris B.

Absolutely Chris, the hydraulic press is becoming an indispensable piece of kit in the Garage, used it on the Riley bodywork which will be seen in a future video. All the Best.

Having seen the work involved in truing up the Bantam flywheels and crank, I worry that when the crank is assembled in the cases, will the apertures for the main shafts be in line as well or so worn that you could have a problem with bearings, etc.
@TweedsGarage
6 күн бұрын
The old bearings inner races and crank shafts bearing surfaces took all of the damage, the outer bearing races hadn't spun in the cases and they are unscathed in that area...........damaged in plenty of others though 🙄
