Marvelous stuff Tweedy. Those aircraft skills don't leave you. Aluminium sheet is easier to form if you anneal it, although I thought you made a jolly good job of it. Bead rollers can be a pain unless you have a charming assistant to wind the handle, or a fancy motorised job with a foot pedal. Jenkins was neglectful of his duties in my opinion by not volunteering. he is bloody useless, mind on other things ( I suspect Miss Lane ), I have fitted a wheel instead of the handle which makes life a lot easier on the bead roller ( a spoiler on up coming video content ).

Great job so far, can’t wait to see the finished job.👍

Top work! Aluminium is a bit of a bugger to form. Assuming the panel was 6061 or equivalent, you might bear 5052 in mind in future which is a little less prone to cracking. But you made it work so it’s all moot. I about fell out of my chair when I saw the captive rocher nest. Glad they caught them! Bonus - you caught footage of a Rover being born at the manufacturing show. 👍👍👍👍

It is a vast improvement on the dangly number plate.

PS The 'classic' film clips and stills are just wonderful... and really well employed!

I was expecting you to set homework after this one, with a test to follow BUT I expect you will be busy with a shed expansion project ready for a special delivery from Santa after going to the exhibition!? Thank you for posting MrT best wishes. PS Had to go and check the panel on the Lynx which is louvered. Riley always put in nice touches.

I did find something but it was way out of my budget.......maybe if i ever hit 1000000 subscribers I could put down a deposit.....and hold on to your hat Mr B as there's louvers to come...

I want to know more about Cherry Lane? Skin Grips....are they Clecos in the aviation world. Loved the machine tools exhibition....mesmerising with that 2001 space odyssey music. All very interesting......looking forward to more Bantam stuff.

all you need to know Nick is that your mother wouldn't approve. Clecos do the same job but they are sprung loaded and require Cleco pliers to install them.

The US name for the panel grips is 'Cleco' or 'Clecos'... Nice solution with the 'domes' to relieve for the rivets on the frame by the way!

@@siukcnc clecos are the spring loaded ones you set with a tool ( glorified pliers) the screw down type are called skin grips/pins

Very enjoyable to watch you create something with sheer determination and your bare hands. Much better that those heartless, soulless, bastard machines. I'll take grease covered overhauls over micro chips any day. I have lots of other opinions on lots of subjects... I can write them all down and send them to you if you like... no trouble... An excellent result! And all far more interesting than watching CNC machines doing their thing, although they are essential for producing our modern world cheap throw away things they have no soul. Did you anneal the Aluminium before forming the "dimples" ? I would have thought they would be easily formed when anealed, and I am surprised you have not got a good stock of purple snap head rivets to join our panels, with a snap and set you could have saved a lot of time, especially as you have an inexhaustible supply of skin clamps, do you use the etch prime in aerosol form? I find that is a very handy way of priming alloy panels, although I cant find the cans here in France, I have to smuggle them over! Stay safe! Chris B.

I did have a go at annealing the panel but struggled judging how much heat to get into to work. I didn't have the correct size of snap and set, and the pop rivets are easy to drill out if needed........and I needed too!!!! I did and do use etch primer on ally and can just pop down the road to get it. All the best Mr T

@@TweedsGarage The simple way to achieve the correct annealing temperature for Aluminium is to rub soap on the surface to be annealed, then heat with a gentle flame until the soaped surface turns brown. You are really lucky to be close to a source of aerosol etch primer I have to mix up zinc chromate and spray it on, OK with a panel, but for small pieces it is a lot of trouble. Stay safe! Chris B.

Nipple squeekers did make me chuckle but I'm easily pleased, on a different note, i did wonder if heating the aluminium would make it easier to press without warts and all?

I did give it a go but it's always difficult to judge how hot to get aluminium ( before it dissolves in to a pool on the floor ) so i just pressed them out and don't be ashamed, we're all 12 year olds at heart 😁

Great stuff as usual Allan, that component in the Colchester Student CNC reminded me of something Miss Lane might have under her pillow...🤣

I was far lazier on the undertray on my Riley where the rivets were in the way. I just drilled holes! Where it was the tail of the rivet rather than the head that works well as the height of the rivet back more or less matched the thickness of the aluminium tray so it all ended up flush. Is the next panel over the front dumb irons?

@@TweedsGarage I don't know if they all had them? Definitely not all Brooklands had them. Unless they were removed for racing or something. I think more of the replicas have them then real ones. Done well they do look nice and tidy though so I think that would look good on your car.
