My father bought a 1961 A7SS in Northern Ireland when he was 23 years old, having graduated from a B31 single. He told me the first thing he did was polish it all, including the black vinyl seat. This turned out to be a mistake when he opened the throttle and promptly slid backwards - he wasn't used to the acceleration! He loved the bike and rates it as the best bike he ever owned. He is now 82 and is in the process of restoring a (rare) 1956 TWN Contessa scooter. He still loves old British bikes and really enjoyed this video. He said; "Oh, that sound - like hearing an old lover's voice!"

Well that's very nice to hear that this video brought back some good memories for your father!!...i also love this bike..it runs very well and feels sturdy! And i had the same issue of cleaning the seat too much that it became and ice rink! let see him ride the contessa when he is done with it!!!

I had a similar experience Gunther, after passing my test on a BSA C11g 250cc in 1966, i saved every penny i could and bought a 650cc Triumph Thunderbird in early 1967, well the grin on my face lasted all year, just being able to hang on when accelerating, will never forget simpler times.

@@exb.r.buckeyeman845 lovely! Thunderbirds are very beautiful bikes too in my opinion. Plus that great Triumph rumble of course

Good camera shot looking down at the gauges while riding, you captured the sound nicely, too.

Sounds beautiful. Great bikes the A7 and A10. Good performance, great roadholding and economy. The duplex frames of these bikes gave them roadholding similar to the featherbed Nortons.

The timing cover (right side) is one of the most beautiful manufactured items I have ever seen.

What a gorgeous sound. It takes me right back to my teens in the 60s when I wasn't quite old enough to ride one but could worship at the shrine.

The bsa tickover is very distinctive, it should be dum-te-dum-te-dum-the-dum. Different to a triumph twin. I had one, I should have restored it after an idiot car driver did a u-turn on me. Nicely balanced and smooth engine 👍
