Owned one since 1st march 23 . Rode the Enfield but picked the BSA . Twin cam 4 valve with shims is far better than sohc and twiddling tappet adjusters of the Enfield . Brembo brakes ally rim's slipper clutch . Pay the extra it's worth it .

Enjoyed that. To be honest the BSA has about as much ‘heritage’ as the Norton you tested the other week, similar ish performance but it’s £10k less with significantly lower running costs. There’s obviously a lot to like.

You can get an all blacked out version for £5999+otr, I got the black/chrome one on the first of March its now had it's first service and never let me down. Being 6ft and heavier than you I did find the rear suspension a bit crashy so i got a pair of uprated shocks from Tec parts which has really helped the back end suspension.

Thanks for a honest , down to earth review of this bike . Like many i have followed it from the start . To be truthful i have been swayed by some of the negativity . However i keep coming back to it ! ? I've been riding on and off since 1975, mostly Japanese , singles, twins and multicylinders . I must admit that fast approaching 66 yrs and possibly looking for a modern classic this could fit the bill . I guess i need a test ride ......

Hi fella, your a similar height to me and i can confidently say that both bikes are relatively small so it would be a case of test riding them both to see which one would be best for you fella but if i had to pick one id say the royal enfield felt a little more accommodating for me.

@@vikingventuresuk6122 OK thanks for your thoughts. We don't get the Himilayan here in Oz until March and although it's well below the capacity I was originally thinking of, my days of 2 up interstate touring are most likely over. So time for a test ride coming up soon!

I got a BMW F650CS. It would be interesting to put that Rotax and BMW engine into such an Enfield. BMW chose for a short stroke engine, it's doing great at doing more revs, and you see that in torque an power curves, but most of all you FEEL it. I wonder what engine Enfield has picked.

@@motolab.EuropeanMotorcycles if we put the classic Goldstar and the new Goldstar in the hands of a regular everyday rider (who these videos are aimed at) ie someone with next to no experience with tools and bike mechanics i can promise you the newer bike would last longer, be better on fuel, cheaper to maintain and service, easier to start, more comfortable, being water cooled more practical around town, considerably better brakes, performs better, there just is no way the old bike would be a better overall bike than the new model.

People being afraid to buy one, well, I can tell you, I hate them. Why? They do not buy one. They buy some stupid extremely boring four cylinder instead. The number of sales will be far too low. This great model will sell for two years and then it will be end of story. Just because these FOOLS don't buy the bike that they could have liked so much. What more do you need for touring on a summer sunday? But no, THEY DO NOT BUY IT! And they should have bought TWO. One for him, one for her. Get off that stupid pillion, ladies!

I agree with you Voornaam. I think it could be 'sink or swim' for the brand. Here in Australia, I can't imagine my local Triumph or Royal Enfield dealers deciding to offer BSA, and no dealer would be brave enough to be a 'BSA-only' enterprise. But I really want to see the BSA be available to purchase here.

O Viking! Look a little closer. This is actually a 470 lb. Mahindra. It is morbidly obese. The only part of it that is BSA is the tank badges. The real Gold Star is the DBD 34. One of the reasons for its wonderful performance was its light weight--well under 400 lbs. The British designers of this imposter evidently decided that weight does not matter. How many of them are actually motorcyclists?

could you imagine reproducing the original today?? the cost would be astronomical and also people need reliability so I appreciate its a lot different to the last bike but this new little 650 would run rings around the old bike (i hate to say it) if they named it something else so it didn't disrespect the original bike i think people would be more accepting of it
