    Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that. I ended up going for the GT650 over this, I just found the stickers on the engine casing (rather than the stamped casings on the Enfield) looked a bit cheap. The general fit/finish didn't seem to be as quite as good. That USB port on the handlebars... not for me, and the HUGE radiator looks out of place. But thank goodness we all like different things!! It would be a hellish boring world out there if we all rode the same thing! That said, if I was given one, I would still be very happy. :) If I did have a spare 8 grand going today though, that '74 Commando looks nice!

    Thare is nothing cheaper than a plastic mudguard and side panel of gt650 and very cheap low quality ceat tyres

    Ive not riden a bsa , but it just does not appeal to me its apparently has been designed more for looks than performance. I might be slightly bias as I have a Himalayan as a daily ride to work bike and a 650 gt continental as a weekend toy. And I'd bet the continental it would blow this queezy beeza into the weeds..

    @@jamespegram8843 I totally agree. I also have am Himalayan as a winter/everyday bike and an Interceptor 650 as a weekend toy. Love both bikes and I will not change from the 411 to the 452 Himi as good as it may be. I just prefer the aircooled RE

    Based on pragmatics, I can live with the radiator. What I have a much harder time swallowing is the pinch-welded fuel tank - a side by side comparison with the original makes it it look like a cheap tin-toy.

    Got my black one on the 1st of March and love it. Being a big guy i did find the rear shocks a bit crashy on these awful Lancashire country roads so bought an upgraded pair from tec which have transformed the handling. Never let me down with the engine being so characterful, plus the local Lancashire dealer is spot on.

    I’ve had my Interceptor for just over a year and about 4500 miles. I also have a 2005 BMW F650 CS that I’ve owned a little over 2 years. The BMW engine is similar to the BSA’s. Both are Rotax designs and have similar outputs. I find the low end torque of the BMW is softer than the Interceptor’s. Where the BMW outshines my Interceptor is at higher rpm. The Interceptor isn’t very happy at speeds over 70 mph, while the BMW is surprisingly comfortable. The engine doesn’t get any more vibey than it is at 55. Of course, the BMW is about 30-40 pounds lighter than the Enfield or BSA. That may afffect the comparison somewhat. Honestly, had both bikes been available for similar money, I may have chosen the BSA if for no other reason than the more extended valve adjustment intervals. The liquid-cooled BSA engine is a more modern design for, better or worse. I enjoyed your comparison.

    Nice bike but I opted for the W800. It’s air cooled set up is more classic for my liking. I picked up a used 2022 with hardly any miles for just under $6,000. I love the old British bikes style but with modern features like ABS and bright LED lamps.

    TBW to be honest, that abomination of a USB port would annoy the shit out of me as would the presence of the radiator. It has the name, not the history nor the engine. Royal Enfield for me everyday & everywhere 😉

    I agree with you on the usb box, looks cheap and an after thought, and I believe that the plastic hinge is weak and will break over time, and I believe that the rad could have been better designed and more unobtrusive 😮

    Enjoyed this informative video. I have several 1960s Japanese motorcycles which I imported from California many years ago. I bought them for peanuts and a couple were free. They are now worth many thousands of pounds in the UK. I do prefer the US style high bars for comfort.

    OK, Dave, that very test machine was sold recently for £5749 it had 461 miles on the clock, I visited Eddy's Moto to buy it only to be told it had been sold the day before I arrived. Kieran at Eddy's Moto managed to get me another pre-registered Legacy Edition with only 16 miles on the clock for £6299, I bought it there and then.

    That is a fine looking bike Dave. I prefer it over the Royal Enfield. The engine just looks and sounds much better to me. I would spend the extra money for it.     I rode one back in February, decent bike but none to keen on the sound track, pulled well though as you say. I bought a new W800 Cafe for less than an Interceptor in the end, absolutely no regrets. Interesting that the dealer is offering free luggage and price match. Hmm. My Enfield/BSA dealer says they aren’t selling (he still has 12 in stock) and is also offering deals. On a brand new make/model that is telling I’m afraid.

    If the Goldstar was a 360 degree vertical twin, looked and sounded somewhat like the 650 BSA's of my youth, I'd be tempted, otherwise I'm very happy with my smooth running RE INT 650 that closely reminds me of my beloved TR 650 of the late 60's.

    Thank you TBW. Before we chose the Classic 350 we looked at these briefly (especially as we ride two up most of the time). I have noticed a couple of improvements since the early bikes. One being the slimmed-down header on the production bikes which looks better. More recently, BSA seem to have fitted a different radiator cowl with side cheeks replacing the rather "cottage industry" folded steel affair. I did worry about the longevity of the original arrangement which didn't look particularly durable especially with rather thin paint on the edges. I might have a go on one in the spring. Nice CB250/400N outside Eddie's 😊 - I'll bet that's a staff bike.

    Interceptor captures the old school riding and joy like I remember but the Gold Star still feels an asthmatic modern bike with a modern take on old style era biking. But that’s only my opinion!

    A good looking bike Dave , I had my Interceptor for three years ,I enjoyed it but my 350 Classic is much more comfortable, but I've sat on the Gold star and the seat felt really comfortable , I must book myself a test ride as I like the single cylinder engines. Cheers Mel 🍻

    Love the Super dream outside Eddies there - probably the most ridiculed 250 back in the day when a 17'er could ride a 250 LC on L plates 🙂- Rather a nice classic now though.

    ​@@oldguzziguySounds as if you had the 'porky' CB400T 'Dream'. I had the Superdream ie 400N in '80. I had a couple of mates who had RD400s and the CB never had any problems whatsoever in keeping up with them. It certainly wasn't wet.😄

    Ive never seen a BSA in the USA that wasn't in a motorbike museum. You get a lot for the money for sure. 12v and USB ports too🎉

    Morning Dave, I like the proper front mudguard with a decent length to it. I think the gearing of the BSA with 5 gears will account for the difference in pull. I like the look from the exhaust side but not the other. So the jury is out for me at the moment. That said it’s a boring world where everyone likes the same thing.

    Agree about the mudguard. Every newish bike I have had for some years has had to have a mud flap added to keep the crap off the engine.

    I do think the royal enfields are great bikes but they have been reviewed to death on youtube. The gold star is a more interesting proposition at the moment. Although I did see a review intimating that it wouldn't pull a boy scout off your granny but that is opposed by several other youtubers. Enjoyed this Dave. Thank you

    Thanks Bigly , a very cool bike ! , they have nailed the looks almost perfectly . As much as I like the look , I will keep and love my Interceptor for many more years . These are a compliment to the RE 650cc rather than a competitor and I cant wait until they start to been seen here in Australia so we can be seen out and about together on rides . Price will be their biggest bug Bear , here in Australia , the base BSA is $13,000 where the base Interceptor is $10,990 , 2k will buy you lots of goodies .

    Great review, Dave. This bike is growing on me and, like you, I think it looks better than the Interceptor. I do hope the aftermarket world come up with a solution for the radiator, as that is the only thing that jars - come on Techbikeparts!! (triumph made a much better job on the current bonneville range). Great review!!

    It's certainly grown on me. The Interceptor definitely has a better looking engine, and seems slimmer/taller, but the Gold Star has a lovely stocky/squat stance. Hopefully there'll be more models in the foreseeable!

    I went to look at one at Eddies about 2 years ago. I thought the finish was shocking! The welding on the frame looked like I'd done it, and I'm not a welder. But the one thing that sealed it was the BSA plastic transfers on the timing & clutch chests. I did think at the time that they could have got Rotax to get them either acid etched or milled. You stated the the finish had been improved so I presume these items have been addressed.

    A great review, haven’t ridden one yet, so can’t pass comment. Not bad looking but I still prefer the looks of my Interceptor, especially in black. It’s good to have the choice though.

    Yes Dave you’re a bit late but glad you’ve had a go😊😊 Love my Legacy and don’t care about other negative comments until you’ve ridden it 😊😊 I heard all the negative comments before but don’t bother me 😊😊 The centre stand is a little draw back but it’s all fine, the charging usb box … so what you know it’s soon forgotten about I’ve only used it once and it can be changed any time any one wants 😊😊😊 Great to see you riding it and a great review 😊!! bought mine from Eddys 😊😊😊 100% the gearbox on the interceptor doesn’t need 6 gears too close together to me😊 The free luggage 🧳 well can’t go wrong £600 worth should have waited myself lol 😂

    Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it, but the engine and gearbox are the Rotax unit that was in the single cylinder GS650, F650 and the aprillia equivalents

    Think it really suits you,more so than the super meteor.Think you should buy one and it might boost your viewings people following your journey with it and what and if any problems you encounter 😀

    There has been a number of ECU derived faults with the BSA. According to a BSA FB group.

    All been solved now according to bsa owners. Any new bikes don't have the fault either obviously. Triumph bonneville for me over bsa or the interceptor. Royal enfield is a bargain though

    Interesting, returned to biking after decades! - Bought the RE350 Signals Classic - love it. Though took a test ride on the BSA - really liked the 30 minute burst along the city streets/bypass/country roads - a lot cheaper than Triumph (tried one years ago - felt at home!). Decision time next summer ...

    I've seen some reviews where they think the Interceptor is better looking than the BSA but I agree with you. Its certainly clear that you liked it. Also good to see some of my dream machines at Eddy's (G80, Red Hunter to name but two) - a nice touch to put them in the video.

    Yeah that’s a good looking bike, i wish someone would make a bike like this with true chrome wheels, spokes, front and rear fenders, exhaust, shocks, fuel tank, handle bar, with polished aluminum engine. 👍

    Such a shame its not air cooled, also engine castings could of been better finnished same with exhaust. Im afraid the radiator kills it for me looks like a barn door.

    Good watchable review thank you. My subjective opinion, is the interceptor is/was priced for what is.. The Bsa has an arbitrary nostalgia hike to its price. Prefer a twin, as I'm more 60s/70s era than 50s/60s. Cheers Dave.

    Nice one, Dave! I like this new BSA, even it's not really a Bits Stuck Anywhere, though with those stickers, the USB and 12V outlet, they seem to have made a fair effort! 😂Think I'll stick with my recently-acquired '05 Moto Guzzi Breva 750 for now - if I don't my missus will rightly give me hell, as it's the 4th bike in 18 months! - and I would recommend that you try the Guzzi V7 850 Special; I reckon you'll like it a lot. 👍

    I can’t agree with you Dave on the looks department RE is in my opinion a better looking bike I can’t judge the BSA on its handling as I’ve never ridden one so my judgement is strictly on looks & sound! I like the single thump thump sound of the BSA But put a good set of after mkt pipes on the Interceptor & we’re talking a far better bike! Nothing against BSA & I wish them success But it’s RE For me! Good honest review buddy!

    This is definitely a better looking bike that the Interceptor. Having ridden the Interceptor I was underwhelmed and I'm not a power mad rider. I like the idea of the BSA being a single too.

    Rode both . Bought the BSA . took USB port off as soon as I got home . No big deal why the fuss . This engine twin cam and shims . Enfield is single cam and twiddling adjusters . I paid more for my BSA than the Enfield BUT it's worth the extra . Brembo . Alloy rims 4 valve head . Twin spark . Slipper clutch . And now ive changed the exhaust wota lovely sound .

    Didnt know Eddie's was now in Taddy. Is he still in Shipley? I remember when Eddy sold 2nd hand spares from his terraced house, just off Burley Road in Leeds, in the days before he opened up on Kirkstall Road. He's certainly had his ups and downs over the last 50 years but it's great to see he's still trading! Not seen the BSA yet here in N.Thailand but the Enfield 650's are getting popular. But i do love singles , and I ride a Yamaha SR 400, which does sound a little like a BSA!

    Good coverage thy knows, Was at Eddies last week great selection and very friendly if a little hectic when I was there as it was rammed with out going sales.but I will back to see the BSA and test ride I think.

    Having talked with the new BSA Goldstar owners the last few Months, they end up envying my Interceptor whilst I envy their Goldstar! Pros and Cons with both bikes and always walk away feeling happy with the Interceptor! The only thing which I do like more is the pillion comfort with the lower exhaust. On that very subject I have noticed that the down pipe on the BSA’s have all suffered that of the same discolouring but these are something which could be replaced over time. BSA owners have also mentioned that side wind is almost unnoticeable on the motorways which is a big plus but I can only go on what I’m told. 😎

    Rode test one in the summer.....I was very disappointed....boring as hell......sound like a young lads 125 as well. I am a BSA man and was hoping it would put the BSA Brand Name Up In Lights.....but it wont sadly. At 7k its wayyyyy over priced.

    I've been looking at loads of RE Intercepter videos this week a friend suggested I look at this gold star but that dam exhaust just don't do it for me looks fat and sticks out from the videos I've seen at the mo the interceptor is getting my vote. Thanks for the video.

    A good video, but not keen on the bike; far too chunky, compared with the original Goldie Clubman which appears to be the style it was based on. Looks a bit like a retro bitza to me! I think they've overpriced it too, when an Interceptor can be had for £5800 on the road (Kieran's offer in June, matched by my local dealer, but also offered by others ) and there's a shedload of good admittedly modern machines from long established companies, in the same price range.

    I think I like the int650 a little better. Though the stock exhaust on that bsa looks a lot better than the stock int650.

    Entertaining and informative as always, Dave. Great review of a class of bike that's proving so popular right now. This is, as you rightly say, a fine homage to a model that has great prestige amongst those that remember the original. If this bike is seen that way, that's fine but I can't help but feel there are those out there in the community that have been seduced into thinking they're riding a real British bike. Take your rose tinted specs off. You're not. It's designed in Britain, ok that gets one tick but presently there are no other ticks. It's assembled in India and is powered by an engine originating from Austria. Sorry, but this bike is about as British as Beef Stroganoff. 'Made in England' is something so special to me and this bike and REs don't qualify. I'm really sorry if that offends but that's how I see it. Buy this bike to ride and give great pleasure in ownership, and I sincerely wish those contemplating this machine many happy miles and years of stewardship. That little tour at the end? Now, that's real Brit Iron!😊 Looking forward to seeing this bike in your garage soon, Dave.🙂👍

    A great looking bike. My only criticism is the rear mudguard looks a bit large fron the side, and the number plate a bit low. I was interested in your observations about the torque availble. I have never ridden a large single. But I do like to short shift, changing up at low revs, when on a bike with good low down power

    That rear rack looks like something from 1970 but you need that to carry tubes and tools for puncture repairs.

    Great review, I think I will track down a BSA dealer with a demo bike and try it out. Would you say the foot pegs are lower and the seat more comfortable than the Interceptor? Potential 3rd bike for you?😂

    Very good road test, like the look and sound of the BSA but can't stand the look of the engine with all that plumbing. Never knew Eddys was full of classic bikes.

    I like this bike its connection with BSA isn't the reason I would want one I like it because it looks good and I enjoy singles I grew up with British motorcycles by the seventies when I started all I wanted was a CB750 four British bikes where dreadful I wouldn't give one a second look 😮 hang on spoked tubed 18" on second thought no thanks 😮I wonder how popular it would be if it carried its makers real name Mahindra 650 ?

    I’ve test ridden both within a few days of each other, hands down the BSA is a better bike with more real world torque just where you need it. You do need the top Legacy edition though , the engine covers and mudguards do the trick👍

    I do like these. The new black, Mmm not sure, but cheaper price, will tempt a few buyers, I guess. I sat on one at the Scottish show, back in March. As I said my small leggies, barely touch the ground. So would need it lowered, for sure. It’s 3 hour ride to Edinburgh as I would take coast road, and ride through Fife. But am planning to visit the dealerships in Edinburgh. Thanks again for your video. WeeMark67.😊

    I do like the new Gold Star I think it is a shame they let it down on the very small finishing touches like the BSA badge on the engine case being a sticker rather then having it moulded in and the same on the filler cap. Only tiny things that would have just lifted the felling of quality for a very small cost. I'd still like to see someone cutomise one as a 60's Cafe Racer though I think it would look great.

    Be prepared for warranty claims on the new Goldie. Electrics and gearboxes appear to be an issue. From what I've heard from the trade. Personally, I think that radiator is plug ugly and detracts from the classic look. I will test ride a Goldstar, but the Interceptor sets a high bar for this style of bike. Open minded however. I'll let you know. Love and peace.

    I like the BSA a lot. One thing I like is that you could put normal saddle bags or such without the pipes being in the way. On the interceptor the pipes sweep up and so are totally in the way. You can still put bags on it but they have to be really high up and thus, to me, they look silly. Also on classic bike the wheels were usually chrome. On the Interceptor the wheels are painted black and I think it looks terrible. Also not fond of the cheap black plastic fenders on the Interceptor. Also the seat on the BSA looks very comfortable and everyone says it is. On the other hand, most people say that the stock seat on the Interceptor is like riding on a piece of lumber. Also, I personally prefer liquid cooled engines. They tend to last somewhat longer because cool running engines last longer than air cooled or air and oil cooled engines. In spite of all that I would probably make my decision between Interceptor or the BSA on which is best for long highway riding at somewhat fast speeds. Might still go with in Interceptor then although everyone says the BSA has a really good balancer making it surprisingly smooth even at highter speeds.

    I have a Bullet 500 & the Intrcptr 650. Can understand exactly how you find this bike different from the intrcptr.. For me, Bsa & Triumph are a breed apart. Even the 400 Speed that Triumph has introduced sits apart..espl looks and ride feel

    You do like to court controversy Dave, better than the interceptor, l can hear all those sharp intakes of breath 😂l took one for a test ride some months ago and l loved it, but for me l thought it was a bit over priced in comparison to the Royal Enfields. l am still undecided on a second bike so may still get one 🤔🙄😂

    Certainly isn't better looking than the interceptor. Not ridden one so can't comment on how fast it is. I watched a tec bike parts video and the build quality Certainly isn't as good either. I would still like to ride one out of interest.

    I have no idea how quick tec bike got there's tbh. But the welds looked large the tank paint chipped easily. Rear shocks apparently are not great. I don't want to knock this bike as I haven't seen or ridden one in the flesh and actually do like the over all look. I suppose it's all about personal preference and its good we don't all like the same thing. 2 totally different machines in my eyes. You wouldn't compare it to a bonnie 😂

    A lot to like, particularly the power delivery, compared to some. It is a Marmite bike, with some loving the looks and others hating it. For me, it`s a no go because of the radiator that looks like it belongs on a Ford transit and the exhaust as fat as a Scania truck, at the engine end. Shame because, apart from those two eyesores, it would look gorgeous.

    Some aspects look good but the radiator and exhaust are ugly, to my eyes. I may be biased as I have an Interceptor, I am currently looking to buy another bike but the BSA won’t be it.

    I love the look of this bike, I have a RE 500 classic and the sound of a single is music to me. I like how they have gone for a straight peashooter exhaust.. I owned a 650 Int. and the upswept pipes didn't appeal to me at all, the riding position of the 650 was uncomfortable to me, the acute angle of the knee didn't work, I was constantly got tangled in the pegs at a stop and the bars were too far forward and gave me a backache. I sold that bike. That radiator. That Goddam radiator. Could they not hide it better? That thing looks like it could cool a 15 liter diesel truck engine, overkill for a 650 single. All of this is probably irrelevant for me here in the States, I doubt this bike will make it here for me to test ride or see.

    I could be wrong, but I think the radiator must be large to keep temps down so the ECU doesn't run rich and kill emissions requirements

    Interesting review although this wouldn’t be the machine for me. I thought you captured the essence of the BSA in your intro when you mused that it wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the success of the RE Interceptor. To my eye the machine is entirely derivative of the RE idea and is an example of ‘badge engineering’ of the worst self-adhesive kind…..I don’t see this as a homage to 1960’s motorcycling, it’s a pastiche a la AJS 125…😊

    Ugh that radiator. I can see if there's no other bikes without one but there are companies rocking true air cooled these days so no reason to have that garbage on there. Thanks RE for keeping it traditional

    You’ve hardly ridden it and you’re singing it’s praises. Cheap switchgear, no centre stand or frame mounts for fitting later, lots of cheap plastic, but it does look quite nice.

    Except for the awful radiator. Shame they couldn't have hid it better like triumph did with the T120. I've had a few rides of my mates BSA, I liked it, but much prefer the Enfield 650 twin.

    Thankfully taste is subjective! Prefer the Interceptor - though the BSA looks ok. Not sure about the oddly-shaped panels.

    The reason the BSA single cylinder 650 feels like it has more power under 4000 rpm is because the fewer the cylinders, the more the lower end torque. A single cylinder engine of a given cc and HP will have more low end torque than a twin cylinder of similar size and HP. A twin of a given cc and HP will have more torque than a V4 of the same cc and similar HP. More cylinders generally equates to more HP in the higher RPM range but lower torque in the under 4000 RPM range. Royal Enfield should be replacing their air cooled 650 this next year with a liquid cooled 650 as they just introduced their liquid cooled 450 in the last month. Both RE and BSA are doing consumers a great favor in providing reasonably priced, high quality products.

    I have a 1964 BSA Lightning Rocket. 650 parallel twin. Don’t know why they put radiators on these types of bikes. Air cooled all the way!

    It desperately needs a vastly better quality exhaust that doesn't discolour, the one it has is rubbish. There's a lot of bikes now with rubbish looking discoloured down pipes. The Japanese bikes when they started coming over here long ago always had double skinned pipes on so they didn't blue and looked far better quality because of it. Blued pipes are a pet hate of mine I wouldn't want a bike that had them. Great review though.
